Can't access external drive in lightroom 5

My hard drive was full, so I copied the file 'My lightroom photos' on an external drive.  Then I deleted the file from my hard drive.  Now I can not find the external drive in lightroom5.  All the files on the hard drive are grayed out with one? on them.  How can I find and access the external drive in lightroom, and then how to record all future imports this file?

Thanks for your help.

You will neeed to import again.

Use Import > add

Then navigate to the pictures folder.

When you have new pictures put them in a new folder and navigate to this folder.

You will need to keep the external hard drive connected when using LR5.

  • Question: How can I format external drive in exFAT? NOT in NTFS!

OK, so frustrated that I had to go through the hedges to sign up here to ask a question like that. Why can I NOT format exFAT? I have many external HDDs that were formatted in exFAT under WIndows XP Pro but my new system, completely updated Windows 7 Professional, I can't format external drives of exFAT. The option is NOT available. In the Format window, file system, is the only option: NTFS (default), there is no other option. I googled the * on this issue and found no answer. This external hard drive MUST be formatted as a disc exFAT. Period. Someone please help.

I'm surprised the research online increase this... You can do it from the command prompt, but not from this dialog box.  Here's how:

-Open a command prompt by typing cmd in the start/search box, right click on the cmd search result and select "Run as Administrator"
-Type format g: FS:exFAT , then press ENTER to start formatting the G drive as exFAT
To view all other options, type format /? and press ENTER.

  • Move the external drive of Lightroom on new server

I use Lightroom 6 (standalone - latest version) on an iMac. All Lightroom files are on an external drive attached in a hierarchy like this:

    Photos (folder)

    Lightroom Files (folder)

    LR-2 Previews.lrdata library (folder)

    Library of LR - 2.lrcat

    Photos of LR (folder)

    1999 (folder)

    2000 (folder)

    etc.

    etc.

I would like to move this set of the player to a network attached server and continue to access it from the iMac. Can I move the player, point Lightroom for the .lrcat file and continue? Additional measures should be taken?

The connected server network is a Mac Mini running Mac OS Server (last).

    Thanks for any help.

Previews and catalog file should stay together, if you don't move the previews they will be re-created by LR in any case

  • How to fix the problem with windows to format external drive and lightroom

I'm working on an imac with lightroom 4. I've already imported photos from an external drive that is formatted for windows. I made some changes using LR develop module but I would also use my NIK plugins. Lightroom does not allow me to export to the Nik plugins because the files are on a windows format. How can I copy/paste the photos on a mac to the disc format while keeping my changes? In addition, how re - import these files in the mac player in LR? At the present time, these files are shaded on b/c they are already in LR on the windows disc. Help?

  • use lightroom 5.  photo editing and forgot to plug my external drive in lightroom.  connected drive and now only have a twirly Rainbow

im a newer user of lightroom 5 on MAC, but have learned quite quickly.

I've been editing a series of photos, and while it picks up today I forgot to plug my Lightroom external storage drive on my laptop.

So without thinking, I plugged the drive in my laptop, hoping that the drive appears and synchronization.

Right now, all I have is a twirly on-screen Rainbow.

    Don't know what to do.

Can I close Lightroom and save all my changes?

I have to unplug the drive and restart lightroom?

Thank you in advance for any help, this is the first time that I made this mistake

Even if no one answered, thanks for looking anyway.

Problem solved.  It seems that Finder on a MAC has been frozen / broken so he did not see the drive.

I uninstalled the external storage drive, created a folder on the desktop and exported all the pictures that I was working on since Lightroom where.

I closed Lightroom (and upgraded to 5.5), killed the Finder and restarted my laptop.

Inserted my external storage of Lightroom and it has been recognized, grew up in Lightroom and everything was fine.

  • Can I connect external drives, flash sticks, cards, etc. to a specific drive letter?

Hello. My question is for Windows Vista, Xp and Win7. I have Vista and XP.

I was wondering if I can assign (or delete the assignment) a drive letter to the external hard drive. I have a laptop and that not always you wanted to plug a certain external drive first, and everytime I turn on the unit. If I can assign a drive letter - I wanted to have it exclusively for some external hard drives, flash sticks, cards, etc. If possible. And Cancel if something breaks or is replaced, etc.

Can I do this with my office also (this is the XP one)?

Can it confuse the system? What updates or anything like that? What happens if I change the associated device?

Also would it help if I run specific programmes on a device external usb, but I am currently not.

Assuming this works: I can leave something assigned to the drive letter K and whatever it is I plugged in any OS: nothing runs the K drive unless it is the specific device, even if not assigned devices...? Those who can jump to L or D - J, etc.?

    Thank you.

Assignment of drive letters is pretty easy - use tool (diskmgmt.msc) disk management to assign letters.  Insert the disk or device, run the disk management tool, find the drive or device, right click and select 'Change Drive Letter and paths', click the 'Edit' button and assign the drive letter you want.  Not the drive letter assignment is made by inserting the device and using the button 'delete '.  I don't know of a way to remove a drive letter assignment, if the device is missing or damaged /-maybe someone else can chime with this knowledge.

    Hello

Try going to the screen when change you the permissions, select Advanced down...

In the window that opens, there will be a space for a change in ownership...

    Try to set your username...

Change the property and add the owner user name

Select the Security tab, then click ADVANCED at the bottom.

Here you can change the permissions for existing users or add another...

Click owner on the top tab, and then select the user (you) that you want to support.

If it is not on the list...

    (1) edit

    2) click other users or groups

    (3) advanced

    (4) find now

    (5) select the user from the list... Your user name, or anywhere you want to add.

    (6) check the "replace the owner of subcontainers and objects".

    Now, select the permissions tab

    (1) select "Edit permissions" down

    (2) select EDIT if the new owner is there...

Add otherwise, steps 3 to 5 above

    (3) give the user\owner new full permissions

"(4) check the box"include the permissions that can be inherited from the Parent of this object.

If the new OWNER does not appear on the 1st list you see after clicking the Security tab now, use the first set of instructions to MODIFY and add a user.

  • I can't access the drive (d) Local

I don't not all of a sudden access to my Local Disk d

    Hi RoyzGarcia,

Are you aware of changes to the computer before the show?

This problem normally occurs when the player does not have permission to access files and folders.

    Method 1:

Disable UAC (User Account Control) and check the result.

See: How can I change the behavior of user account control by using the slider?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/how-do-I-change-the-behavior-of-user-account-control-by-using-the-slider

Note: You must restart your computer when you enable or disable UAC. Change levels of notification does not require that you restart your computer.

    Method 2:

Restore the system to an earlier point before installing this application.

System Restore can return your files system to a point in time before you noticed a problem, without affecting documents, photos, or other personal files. If the system restore does not resolve the problem, you can undo the restore operation and choose a different restore point.

    System Restore: frequently asked questions

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/system-restore-frequently-asked-questions

    Method 3:

If the problem persists, you may need to take ownership and change permissions of the drive to get access.

  • How can I access my library of lightroom 3 of my macbookpro to a mac mini

I am trying to view my lightroom Library 3 macbookpro for my mac mini. The network is set up but the error message indicates that the networking of libraries is not possible. Apple Texch Support believes it should work. All of the suggestions.

Lightroom does not allow for your catalog file be stored on what seems to be a network drive (which is the case if you try to access it from the mac mini).

  • Photos and iPhoto are no longer accesses external drive

The upgrade of the Mavericks to El Capitan went very well on my Mac (i5, 27 ", 16G of RAM).  I've been running for several days, and so far the only problem I encountered is my iPhoto inherited library.  The error returned is "unable to write in the"iPhoto Library (rebuilt)"Library check that you are allowed to write to the directory of the library."

The library is stored on a GTech, 2 TB with Firewire 800 drive.  The format is Mac OS extended and my own privileges are read/write.  I also tried to create new libraries on the disk with two apps, but the error "check permissions" is returned.

The same drive is also used at home from my iTunes library, and is not a problem.  A second identical disk is used for the backup.  There is no problem with the drive itself.

I have read several other posts and also downloaded iPhoto Manager.  It can read in the library and I have no indication of the library is actually corrupted (again; I rebuilt in 2013).

Any help would be appreciated.  I can recover photos, but I don't want to store them on the local disk of 1 TB.

    Thank you.

Information on the disk and then check the box downstairs to ignore permissions
