can't boot from my dell recovery cd

The hard drive on my dimension e510 is dead, so I just installed a new. My problem is that I can't get my Dell OS CD for Windows XP to boot. I changed the boot sequence to boot from the CD drive. I can get the resource CD to boot, (so I know that's not a problem with my CD player), but it only works the diagnostic tests. When I put the CD of the OS, it says "selected boot device is not available. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Kim

My XPS 400 5 1/2 years has had the same problem.  I've tried everything on all the forums, I could find and nothing has worked.  After much experimenting HERE IS what FINALLY WORKED for me: put the Dell operating system CD in an external CD DRIVE or DVD drive.  The computer will recognize that.  For some reason a large number of computers Dell does not recognize that the controlled internal IDE DVD players when the hard drive is replaced, but it will recognize an external drive.  I bought a Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2/0 adapter for $18 plus shipping of TigerDirect and used an old extra internal DVD drive for my new external drive for the operating system install.  Everything worked without a hitch.  I installed my OS yesterday since the OS old Dell reinstallation CD entirely.  Now, my old Dell computer has new life and short grand!  BTW, the same SATA/IDE to USB adapter enabled me wide loading the data from the old drive to the new (my problem was there was a mistake to drive in the file system so that the computer would not start, but the data were always good).

Yes, there is a way to do this.

I just did this to install Windows 10 from a DVD on a tablet of 10 Latitude by following these steps:
(Note: my version of BIOS is A08)

    1. turn off the 10 latitude power.
    2. attach a USB hub to the USB slot unique on the side of the tablet.
    3. fix a keyboard and an external USB CD drive to the USB hub.
    4. now press the button down on the side of the Tablet and simultaneously press the power button for 5 seconds (until see you the screen light up, but will be weak against black unlit).
    5. When you see the Dell logo, start typing on the F12 key (the lower right corner shows the option press the F12 key to choose single startup options)

  • Can not boot from the recovery disc - 0x000000D1 Driver_IRQL_not_less_or_Equal

original title: cannot boot from the Vista recovery disc

A real problem. Vista is prompting me to boot from my recovery disc and allow the repair of Windows. However, when I insert the disk it shows loading Windows, but once he starts to launch I get the BSOd with the "Driver_IRQL_not_less_or_Equal" error report with the error code Stop 0x000000D1. I searched on advice but all I can get into the repair mode, but I can't. F8 does not work in safe mode. Week last ChkDisc has run on every start and yesterday I received a number of parts of Vista won't load does not with error reports. Today, it started with Windows can not load the warning and instructions for use the recovery disk... I'm in a loop as I cannot cross the BSOD! Help please

Computers are strange animals. After my response to you, I had another attempt to go beyond the blue screen. Hey hop this time my computer decided that he had enough rest and proceeded without delay to start and I would like to action, the recovery disk. There then reinstall Windows Vista and am now to a new computer! It's time to move to Windows 7! The only thing I did yesterday was to unplug my printer to my laptop!

  • Portege Z830 - can't boot from DVD

I have a Portege Z830-11F. I upgraded my machine to Windows 8 and but I didn't like it. So I decided to do a clean install of Windows 7.

I downloaded the file .iso on the internet and it was engraved on a DVD.
I plugged in my external DVD drive, rebooted, entered in the BIOS and changed the boot order and restarted again.

Everything went well and I was able to install Windows 7.
But I didn't have the drivers, (thought the BONE would recognise the driver LAN at least, I was wrong)
So I've upgraded to Windows 8 again (without restarting) just to download the drivers for Windows 7.

I did, but now I can't boot from the DVD.
When I enter the boot order section, sometimes the DVD is listed, sometimes not.

In both cases, the machine starts with Windows 8 straightly, does not allow me to boot from the DVD.
The strange thing is that I was able to start on the same DVD in the first place.

What can I do to start from the DVD?

At first, I must say that I n t understand why you didn't create recovery media before you changed something. Using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator you can create USB recovery and the whole situation would be not so complicated. This recovery image is activated but now if you install own OS version you will not be able to use the product key you got with your laptop.

Anyway, now proceed to a complete stop Win8 and after having this beginning for laptop and use F12 to get into the boot menu. Of course your external DVD must be connected before starting your laptop. It may be that external drive is allowed on the like on my U940 USB boot option.

    Hey Buddy,

I'm a little confused about your ad m... You wrote that you have installed Windows 7 on it, but you can t boot?
You get an error message during installation or what exactly is going on?

Have you ever tried to restore the factory settings of the recovery on new SSD disk?

Hmm I put t know what BIOS options you want but I think Qosmio F60 BIOS has enough options.
Normally with the BIOS default settings everything works fine.

  • Why I can't boot from a USB?

    Hello

Why I can't boot from a USB?   I'm looking to replace a failed hard drive in a Mac Mini 2010. I replaced the hard drive without difficulty.

I have a USB flash drive from known good 10.10.5 with an Installer (tested) well known about it.   I press the power switch, as soon as the startup chime plays, I press the Option (Alt) key.

One of the two following situations occurs. Sometimes, I have a small screen asking me to enter my password Wi - Fi. I get my password and nothing else happens. Sometimes, I get a flashing "?" on a file folder.  In my view, this indicates that the computer cannot find a bootable disc. I've tried resetting the PRAM, but I do not have the sound of the double ring that I was expecting.

Once a Mac is longer than 4 years, his PRAM Battery should replace before resetting the PRAM actually works.

Is this USB Flash drive "slipstreamed.  It works on any other older than 10.10.5 Mac?

What is a copy from another Mac or Mac Mini itself 10.10.5 clone?

Plug you directly into the USB port of the Mac Mini, or using a hub which is powered wall?

    Hello

It seems that the CD/DVD drive has developed a hardware problem.
Normally you should be able to boor to ODD in pressing the C key immediately after the laptop has been powered.
Alternatively, you can press F12 at the beginning. This would allow the start on-screen menu.
Here you can choose ODD as a source of start-up

If this will not work, then the STRANGE might be vice.

PS: I doubt that the BIOS supports CD/DVD USB drive startup...

  • I can't boot from HARD drive or CD/DVD - drive Satellite C

When I connect to the hard drive in the bios was detected but not available in the boot priority menu. Just the network card was there & now I can't boot from smoker hard drive cd/dvd. BIOS version is 1.30

    PLEASE HELP ME

    > When I connect bios hard drive has been detected but not available in the boot priority menu. Just the network card was there & now I can't boot from smoker hard drive cd/dvd.

This means that the HARD drive or CD/DVD drive appears in the BIOS boot option?
Strange, what model of laptop do you have?
    Have you tried default BIOS?
Otherwise this (press F9 and save the changes to the BIOS)

  • Can't boot from USB/dvd drive on Satellite Pro M10

    Hello

the broken internal dvd drive, an external USB disk is used. Now I need to reinstall windows on a new hard drive. How can I boot from the external hard drive? (I don't have a floppy drive, but I can't find the right drivers)

    Thank you

    Luke

    Hello

Don t you need all the drivers for this key USB — because the USB disk is a device integrated on your computer. This means that whenever you connect the diskette drive to your machine, the computer establishes that diskette as a cable internal disk and this is the reason why you won´t need all the drivers.

It s already installed when you plug it in.

    See you soon

  • Tecra M2: Can I boot from USB/Firewire-drive external HARD?

    Hi all

How can I boot from an external USB drive?
The Bios 1.20, 15/03/2004 does not seem to support this on my Tecra M2.

I have a Maxtor 300Gig external HARD drive that can be connected via Firewire or USB. Usually, I use a PCMCIA card Firewire to connect the HARD drive, which has 3 partitions.

It would be also possible for a start-up by PCMCIA Firewire?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Satellite 5205-s705: How can I boot from the CD/DVD drive

I can't run Setup from my cd/dvd rom, there is no such option in the BIOS Setup. How can I boot from the cD or DVD?
    Please, help me!

    Hello

You are not able to boot from the CD/DVD drive?
If you are unable to change the boot order in the BIOS, I would advise you by pressing the F12 key immediately after starting the laptop.
A start menu should appear, then you should be able to choose the reader of CD/DVD (ODD).

You can also try clicking on the C instead of the F12 button. The C button the STRANGE start.

    Check this back and forth!

    Good luck

  • Can't boot from USB or CD/DVD to boot.

I'm trying to install a new OS from a bootable DVD that I created. However, my T530 leader not from the DVD. I checked the boot order in the BIOS settings and even explicitly tried to force at the start of my DVD - ROM Sina the F12 boot menu. I was able to boot from this DVD on my other computer.

Any way to diagnose whether my DVD-ROM is defective, or is there maybe some BIOS setting to fix this? I am able to read the disc in Windows, just can not boot from it. The laptop is brand new, just opened it today, so I don't know why something so simple that it would just work.

You must disable startup secure, then tilt the machine mode Legacy BIOS UEFI.

    Ted

Boot from an additional media under Windows 8, you will ensure that you have either disabled Secure Boot or changed to UEFI in the traditional mode.  The following articles describe how to do this.
