Can't open any of my pdf files

Last week, I got a notice that a new update was available for Adobe Reader. As I have done for almost 30 years, I chose the update. When he was done, I saw that it was a CD player, and I'm not a fan of 'Cloud '. I'm on this Forum and I was told that I could choose to download reader XI on the Site of Adobe. I went and did this. Once it was installed, I tried to open several single-page and multi-page documents. Always had to open a single page. This morning, I decided that I try the CD player, just not use the cloud. I uninstalled the recently loaded slow XI and downloaded the CD player. After that, I couldn't do anything to open, even after several minutes of waiting. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the CD player twice more, with no luck. I went to Adobe Support, and he said to try to go to the Panel and select 'Edit' in the region of uninstall programs. He said there was a difficulty, that have downloaded and installed, after which he noted that the "Fix" was successful and active. NOT.

Now I don't know what to do. I have literally hundreds of pdf files that I can't open. Help, please.
