Can't update SP2

I tried to update with SP2 on my laptop Compaq 2 times. The first time, I ignored the warnings and continued. The result was an accident of all of all the drivers on the laptop and I had to do a system restore. I had no other choice than to the restore because nothing on the laptop worked. So, I rang Microsoft Australia and told to make sure that all my drivers are up to date with Compaq. I did it. They are up to date. He said the Microsoft employee it was ok not to download the SP2 update until I didn't know that it wasn't a problem with Compaq. The system is up-to-date with the driver software! I followed the advice of the employee and not tried to download the update SP2 again for a few months.

Day before yesterday, I thought that I ' d try again and I received an update SP2 to a disk (of the computer magazine) and once again tried to make the update. " Same thing. Incompatibility of the driver without solution. So, having learned from the first bad experience, I decided not to go forward with the SP2 update and put the laptop do not download auto updates. I'm not happy with Vista, anyway form.

I want to upgrade to Windows 7 when it becomes available, but what I've read, Vista must have made all the MS updates and well obviously, I can't do the dang updates! It is a new laptop that was purchased in January of this year. It is pre-loaded with Vista, so I don't have a disk for the Vista program.

Totally bored and fed up. What is the solution if I can't update SP2, which means also that I can not upgrade to Windows 7?

Novice in computer science (which is about to undertake a study online and need this sort!)

Hello

Update all the drivers for the devices. Go to Device Manager and right click on each device n select "update driver". It would automatically download the latest drivwers and install them.

  • I can't update to Windows XP (KB2656369) - the site has encountered a problem

I can't update Windows XP.  I scanned the various suggestions and tried several proposed solutions, nothing helps.  For example, I used various Microsoft 'FixIt' 'solutions '.  They fix anything, even if at some point, the computer ran at 50% of CPU all night, until I have made a difficult start in the morning.   I used msconfig to do not use 'start-ups' and load only the Microsoft Services.  I went to %windir%\System32 and renamed the "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" folder in smth else.  All this makes me a bit, but I don't get a resolution.  Here's what's happening.  I go to the "Windows Update" site.  I got now especially the time the problem "the website has encountered a problem..." "and to get to the place where it says"Custom Installation"or"Quick Installation ".  If do "Quick Installation", it starts to download the first file, but then gets stuck at the last 0.10 MB and just hangs there: I left turn overnight, several times, did not go anywhere.  So, I tried "Custom Installation", try just a single one of the elements that are listed there.  I tried the first, it was 0.5 MB or so download-very well, but failed to install.  The site recommends then click on "Update history", but which is empty.  I tried the whole procedure again to other items in the list.  For example, right now, I'm trying the "Security Update for Microsoft .net Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x 86 (KB2656369) (update 1 of 1).  I downloaded it, it said to install, it landed in the Middle for about five minutes, now the green bar is full, but nothing happens (it seems to have the difficulty of finishing).  I'll let it stand overnight even once, see if it's going to be himself tidy, but I doubt.  I should mention that I have a "svchost.exe" process, sitting at 1,507500 Mo (which is 1.5 GB) 'Mem use '.  It is not a virus (I checked with Malwarebytes, as well as the auditor of MS, as well as various suggestions on the website - it comes to Microsoft).  Sometimes, this process consumes 50% of CPU or more.  Auto-update seems to have something to do with it: in all cases, auto-day do not what it is promising.

OK, what I'm doing wrong?  And what I don't understand: why I can not download the updates manually and install it manually?  It would be a step forward...  But more importantly: How can I solve this problem?

    Thank you. I'm trying.

    Hello

    1. you receive an error when you try to install Service pack 2?

2 are you can install other updates successfully?

    3. how you try to install Service pack 2? Is it through Windows updates or manually from the Microsoft Download Center?

    4. have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

    Step 1:

You can follow the steps in the following article and check if it helps.

Windows Update or Microsoft Update repeatedly offers the same update

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/910339

Important: The article mentioned above contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, follow the steps from the following link:

    Back up the registry

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/back-up-the-registry

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
Important: When performing analysis on the hard drive if bad sectors are found on the hard drive when parsing tent repair this sector if all available on which data can be lost.

    Step 2:

You try to install Service pack 2 manually in the clean boot state. Read the following article.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
NOTE: once you are done with the boot, please follow step 7 of article to reset your computer to normal startup.

To manually install Service pack 2, see the following link.
