Cannot add hosts again Cluster?

Here's the situation:

3 servers to new ESX 4.0 I am wanting to add to a new brand

cluster I created. I activated the cluster for HA, DRS and VCA

and to add these 3 guests to it.

I get the message error "the name 'host_name' already exists.

This may be the cause? The documentation I've read, he says that

a best practice to create an empty cluster first and then turn it on

features that you want such as VCA, etc. and then add the hosts.

I'm doing it, but I'm not having any success because of this error.

Also, as a note aside... when I go through the add hosts Wizard and it

Gets the license section. I have 2 options... Choose the mode of assessment

or choose from a list of existing licenses... the problem is that the

List of licenses... in this case 3 for guests I have already install

with their appropriate licenses are grayed out. I can't select the

licenses, so I leave the assessment and move. Is this normal?

I appreciate all help... Thank you!

Are you a right click on the evc cluster and by selecting Add a host?  If the host already exist in the virtual Center, just drag and drop them on the new cluster.  Ant add you host twice to vcenter.

  • Add host to cluster: "Timed Wait vpxa to start."

I have a group of 15 guests ESXi 5.0, with a 5.1 vCenter / Enterprise Plus license. This works well for some time, but two of my guests have been disconnected from tonight and am now troubleshooting.

When I go to reconnect them, I get an error saying that "a general system error: timed out waiting for start vpxa» I did some research and found that it was generally linked to snapshots, but none of the virtual machines on one of my hosts not connectable have snaps at all.

    I tried:

    -Restart services vCenter

    -Restart vCenter

-Restart the services on the host

    -Reboot friendly hosts

    -Reboot hard and cold hosts

-Switch off all virtual machines on the hosts and pass by the maintenance mode

-DNS works between hosts and vCenter and vice versa

-Time is correct on the hosts and vCenter

-Network connectivity between hosts and vCenter is good (all on the same switch)

However, nothing seems to work, and I can not add these hosts on my cluster. What is strange, is that I can connect directly with vSphere, but I can't get them back in my vCenter. I spend the usual guests when add (where you are asked to assign a license, etc.) and he sees the virtual machines on the host I add, but the time out with this error after 5 minutes.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

AHA! I found this article which he sorted:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=2031894

Note that (for Googling useful), you will need chmod 777 /etc/vmware/vpxa/vpxa.cfg before you can edit it and then chmod 444 it over once. Restarted the vpxa service and I could add the host again.

  • vSphere 5 re-install-cannot add hosts

    Hi guys,.

    The short version:

I installed 2 Physics Dell R710, with installed ESXi 5. Each has 4 Win2008R2 VM on them. Everything works fine. At the time I ran upward a VM specifically for vSphere vCentre server in order to manage these. I've added both ESXi hosts to a data center that I created in the vCenter. Because of the budgets he decided not to buy Essentials Plus a moment while the evaluation has expired I uninstalled the software.

Fast forward to today and I bought Essentials. I have re-installed the software vCentre on this same machine virtual I've done before. I created a new data center. However, I can't add two existing ESXi hosts. I run the Wizard "Add host", put in the IP of the host, the same username and password I used on these hosts when connecting via customer vSphere th... and wait and wait the time out - not given error. I see in the event log of the host that the user @(l'ip dele de serveur vCenter) has in... but there is nothing after that... so he can see and hit the host OK... but then it expires and does not just add it.

Has anyone else seen elsewhere or know a solution? Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated

    Hello

When you have uninstalled vCenter right there you should remove the vCenter database, but you do not the same, because of which you there are old entries in the database and you cannot add an existing database to the host.

If possible you uninstall the vCenter server and delete the database and redo the fresh install by creating the new vCenter database.

  • Cannot add host ESXi 5.5 to vCenter for a routed network - cannot communicate with the specified host

I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before, who could give advice how to fix them:

Host of pre-production UCS ESXi migration of a Production vCenter on another network (routing in place)

Can ping both directions successfully - from vCenter Prod to the host of the pre-production

    no firewall between the two.

902 port is open on the host

Host connects to the pre-production vCenter on the subnet even fine

VCenter production can add different hosts on the same network end

Even with the various guests of ESXi UCS.

ESXi host was completely disconnected and removed from vCenter inherited before attempting to add. No dvswitch physical or virtual.

Then try and add, enter the user name and password and get cannot communicate with the specified host.

    Thank you

The solution to this. Used ESX host 5.5 3B (3248547) update that disables SSLv3. (Ref: VMware ESXi 5.5 updated Notes version 3B) one of the consequences of this is that older versions of vCenter (such as trying to move the host) can not add/connect host.

Enable SSLv3 to spend (port 443) on the resolved host (virtuallyPeculiar: connection A ESXi 5.5 U3b host to vCenter with a lower Version A.)

Note: should not enable SSLv3 to Port 902.

  • Cannot add host to vCenter server as data store is shared with an existing host to vCenter

Recently, I removed a physical host to a virtual appliance of vCenter Server and am not able to add it to vCenter Server because I get an error message on the existing data store.  I run a simple server vCenter environment with two physical hosts and shared storage.  I've only been administering vCenter for a few months, so I'm relatively new on the technology and processes.  I searched the Internet for a few days now, but have not found documentation everyone has the same problem I have (which I find strange considering the simplicity my problem and configuration), so I tried to get help from the community of VMware.

I received an error message a day this vCenter Server cannot connect to either of the two hosts so I removed the host (rather than disconnect and plug as I should have done).  Now, I am not able to connect to the host to vCenter server because the shared storage data store comes into conflict with the same data store used by the host in vCenter Server.  I get the error message is ' "Datastore"datastore_name"is in conflict with a store of data that exists in the data center which has the same URL (ds: / / / vmfs/volumes/UUID /), but is supported by different physical storage." "  I try to remove the host data store, but get the following error message: "resource" data store name: datastore_name VMFS uuid: UUID' is in use. ".  The error stack said: "'HostStorageSystem.UnmountVmfsVolume' call failed for object 'storage system' on ESXi"IP address"."  Cannot unmount volume ' data store name: datastore_name VMFS uuid: 'UUID' because the file system is busy. Correct the problem and retry the operation. "I tried to delete all virtual machines of the inventory, put the hosts in maintenance mode, restart physical hosts, but none of my troubleshooting contributes.

I don't know what steps to take to get this data store driving with the host so that I can add it in vCenter Server.  You can provide me with any help is appreciated.

Good thing you already moved the VMs on.  For what is 'disconnect', 'remove' or 'delete' might work anyway.  You should maybe put the host in maintenance mode or even reboot the host before you can remove data warehouses.  In an extreme case, I even had to remove the host and the hypervisor installed completely rebuild on the spot.  It is not that difficult or does not take long to reinstall, so be not afraid on this subject.  A clean reinstall could still save time compared to the deletion of data warehouses.

  • Cannot add host to Vcenter

I'm trying to add the host on my Vcenter with it gives me error

"Add a host (name) cannot communicate with the specified host (10.32.xx.xx). The host may not be available on the network, a network configuration problem can exist, or management services

This host can be unresponsive. »

I'm not an expert of the Vm, can anyone help. Also I can ping the ESXi host and also connect to ESXi directly from the client Vspeher.

    Pls help.

We had this same problem after one of our hosts, with the latest patches and updates.

In our case, we had updated the host to 5.5 u3 before our VCenter Server Update.  Because our VCenter was an old building of 5.5 u1, we have seen our host until with VCenter updated.

Hope this helps someone else with the same question.

  • Restoration of host/VM statistics after add host to cluster

After the removal of certain hosts in a cluster and then add, all the statistics of the virtual machine are gone.
Is it possible to retrieve these stats?  He has them only for 'real time' and 'day', which is the time, since they have been in the cluster.
Oh and keep in mind, when a definition of the alarm is selected in the right pane, a cluster can ALSO be highlighted in the left pane, so hitting delete, deletes the item currently highlighted, and this could be a cluster. Oops!  and right-click on the task in vSphere client, the Cancel option is grayed out!  (and yes there is a confirmation "Are you sure" after delete...)

When you remove a host to vCenter, it assumes that the entity is more managed and you will lose all the performance statistics, including virtual machines. There is no way to restore this information, once added, vCenter will continue to collect and by the work of roll-up, you will begin finally to see your weekly, monthly, statistics etc.

  • vSphere Essentials 5 and vCenter Essentials - cannot add host - vMotion

I would like to know how to add a host to vCenter Essentials for vSphere essentials.

We bought vSphere Essentials and Essentials vCenter to improve our existing for Vsphere 4.1 Essentials environment.  Everything went well with the update on the host computer.  vSphere and vCenter allocated through the vSphere client license keys.  We installed vCenter and web client on a 2008 Server VM on the esxi host. The host has a number of existing virtual machines.  When attempting to add a host after have created the data center must be of VMotion.

Must the esxi host be empty when adding to vCenter essential?

    Thank you.

It sounds like you administering hosts in the mode of assessment so far and I tried some of the Enterprise Plus features! The Essentials Kit includes not vMotion (only Essentials more done) then you should remove the port vMotion group - if there is one - in the virtual network configuration to make the edition of Essentials-compatible host.

  • Cannot add hosts by COMPLETE domain name

    Hello

I have a vCenter 5 and that you try to add my 5 ESXi hosts using their host name or the FULL domain name, but it fails.

I can add by IP addresses without any problem.

I checked the DNS and is very good resolution.

The hosts, Netbios and DOMAIN name resolves the IP address.

even a reverse search with-a on intellectual property returns the correct hostname

    What can be the problem?

  • Cannot add host ESX to vCenter 4.1

    Hello

For some reason, the option "add a host...". ' was greyed out on vCenter and I can't add ESX hosts. Any idea? Thank you.

Assuming that's not an issue of licenses (60-day trial period), this can be is owed by an Essentials edition - as mentioned by weinstein5 - or "vCenter Server Foundation", which are both limited to a maximum of 3 guests or limited permissions that do not allow to add the hosts.

I'm having a problem to add the new host of esx 3.5 U3 to VC2.5. The VC and esx server are the new facility. They both connect to the same subnet.

The Victoria Cross error message is "impossible to install the virtualcenter agent service".

    Take a look at this.

  • Cannot add cluster hosts

    I'm done with this...

It started when I had to change my non routable IP addresses management network to my private IP addresses.  I kept getting errors with the host, not the new IP address.  I solved this problem, but now when I try to add the hosts again in my group, I get an error:

"A general error has occurred: passwd: error immediate criticism-abandonment."  blah blah blah stack of error: "unable to set the account VIM on the host, could not set the password. It is possible that your password does not meet the criteria of complexity defined by the system. »

It is ESXi 5.5u3, I tried the following:

Remove the vpxa account, restarted host - same mistake

Restart the services vpxa - same mistake

Restart the vCenter - same mistake

    VI etc/pam.d/passwd: N0, N1, N2, N3, N4 - same mistake

    VI etc/pam.d/passwd: n0=-1,n1=-1,n2=-1,n3=-1,n4=-1--meme error

Checked the system authentication, do not know what its supposed to look like, but both hosts match

For the life of me, I can't understand it and Google has basically the same steps that I have just listed, I don't want to really blow the configuration and reinstall, but he is looking to get down to that... unless someone here knows where else the complexity of password or criteria for the system is set up...

Fixed the problem myself... Thank you!!

    Action taken:

Removed the vpxa account - I don't really think this has no effect on the issue

Retirement services - did nothing until I've known really

After coming home and watching my esxi, pam.d file hosts and comparing the differences, I just on a hunch deleted after /$ISA / pam_passwdqc.so, then re-entered the information as it was on my host at home.

    SSH in hosts:

    cd\ etc.

    PAM.d cd\

    passwd VI

My hosts had /$ISA/pam_passwdqc.so retry = 3 min = disabled, disabled, disabled, disabled, 7.7

    My hosts at work had /$ISA/pam_passwdqc.so retry = N N0, N1, N2, N3, N4

I edited the line to reflect the password of 14 characters required and the value of the retry N, so it looked like this

    /$ISA/pam_passwdqc.so retry = N min = disabled, disabled, disabled, disabled, disabled, 14

    : wq

    output

Restart the services, actually I rebooted the host, then add in vCenter without problem

  • Cannot add the ESX 6.0 host to vCenter Server 6.0

OK, I'm testing laboratory a vsan 6.0 cluster.

I have my running 6.0.0 esx hosts and vcenter server is 6.0.0 also.

I have the services platform on a virtual machine and vcenter on another. I was able to create a data center, then a cluster below.

Then I went to try to add a host to my group and I get this error...

Failed to contact the specified host (hostname\IP). The host may not be available on the network, may have a network configuration problem, or that the management on this host services may not respond.

Per this KB: KB VMware: Add a host VMware ESXi/ESX from VMware vCenter Server fails

I confirmed that my vcenter server and platform services server can see all esx hosts. From the vcenter server, it can ping the host esx and PuTTY can access all of them. I even installed the client and it can connect to all esx hosts. I used the netbios name, IP and FULL domain name and they all work.

I have only a single subnet, so this isn't a problem. DNS resolution works in all areas of both sides, vcenter esx hosts and host esx to vcenter.

    I am quite puzzled.

OK, after working with VMware on this issue, I think that I thought about it.

All my hosts are DL360 G6 servers.

My hosts are run the same build «VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.2.38-Mar2015.iso» ESX Downloaded from HP.

All buildings are in trial mode.

After placing a call to VMware, they had me build some ESX VM, the services of the platform and the vcenter VM on an ESX host. We suspended because it took all day to go upward.

Once I woke up all the parts (sql server, esx vm, server platform & vcenter) in virtualization nested, I created my data center, then Cluster then added the ESX host.

The hosts added properly, no error. Then I remembered when I installed ESX inside a virtual machine, I am angry that the iso, I had the habit of HP does not work in my VM nested due to virtualized hardware.

Then a fire came into my head. We will rebuild all of the physical cluster but NOT use the CV provided the iso file but use VMware provided iso file "VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 6.0.0 - 2159203.x86_64.iso".

I did it today. I have rebuilt all hosts with the provided iso file VMware ESX...

Spun SQL Server vCenter, service platform, all VM VM VM you need. My AD & DNS VM are on another server, so he has been upwards all the time.

Connected to the web interface (yuck!).

    Created my data center...

    Created my Cluster...

    Add all my Cluster hosts.

    All of this worked!

Therefore, if you encounter the same problem, I'm plan to generate your with the provided iso file VMware ESX hosts and try it. In my case, the provided HP iso file didn't work properly for me.

I also downloaded the iso file of HP 2 other times to make sure and do a validation test and it did the same thing.

  • Add hosts with existing virtual machines for 'Greenfield' active DRS Cluster

I'm currently involved in a project for the hypervisor 5.5 and vCenter. Existing are 2 physical servers with redundant everything and 8 SAS hot swap hard drive bays. Initially, 8 bays only 4 have been populated with hard drives. Hard disks have been removed, ESXi 5.0 has been loaded, 4 virtual machines created on each server and all lived happily ever after.

Now, I would like to upgrade these servers to 5.5... as follows:

I filled the remaining 4 bays on each server with some hard disks and created a second strip of sufficient capacity (twice the capacity of the 4 original disks). I'm stop servers, past the stripe for starting a new band of readers and installed ESXi 5.5 on the new band. The old Strip also remains in tact, so that I can start to ESXi 5.0, if I set to boot from the original soundtrack or boot to ESXi 5.5 if I boot to the new band (two operating systems starts very well, are properly networked, configured vCenter, etc.).

When booting in 5.5, he sees his own, new band and is also the soundtrack which is listed as a second data store attached (I think actually I want to make possible migration of the simple VM from the old to the new data store), both are disk space of LSI, Non - SSD, Type VFMS5.

Panic sets in when I start both computers in 5.5 and the time comes to add 5.5 hosts in a cluster (I also want to test the vStorage DRS and HA) and I've reached the setting of the, "choose Resource Pool." I'm scared to death that choose the first option, "all of the virtual machines in this updated host in the cluster resource pool root. Pools of resources currently present on the host computer will be deleted. "will mean not only a reformatting of the new band which I would like to add to the cluster, but also the still attached old band that includes the data that I want to keep. I don't want to lose data or virtual machines on the soundtrack, but to migrate them in a cluster of 2 servers ESXi 5.5. I was really hoping to migrate data to new tapes on new hosts and then re - purpose boards 2 original (on both computers) as a third table vStorage.

    Issues related to the:

    1. If I choose the option "put all the virtual machines from the host in the pool of resources of the root cluster. Pools of resources currently present on the host computer will be deleted. "with all the drives connected, all my data will be lost?

    2. If I pull the 4 original disks (5.0) and use the option 'put all virtual machines from the host in the pool of resources of the root cluster. Pools of resources currently present on the host computer will be deleted. "that with the new arrays connected (5.5) and then reconnect the old paintings after that the hosts are added to the cluster, will be only the re added still get sucked into the tables and data deleted?

    3. choose the second option, "create a new resource pool for virtual machines from the host and resource pools. This preserves hierarchy to pool resources in. the host' a safe option? If this option works, no matter if I have my original array attached when you add hosts to the cluster?

Last point: by reading all the documents I found it seems strongly suggested to set up guests who have not a deployed virtual machines, that's why I'm going to great efforts to try to keep the new hosts as empty as possible and with 1 port base networking while waiting to complete the configuration. Does it matter if I migrate virtual machines or add them as guests to the ESXi 5.5 before or after I have add hosts to the cluster?

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

    I'd go with option C.

VSAN I would agree has some stupid requirements, but that they were aiming for is almost class company SAN at a decent price by using the SSD as caching tables, but as you said if you don't need not good I would continue to go with a NAS NFS solution.
