  When I press F1, I get the 1.5 version of BIOS ACPI boot menu, but I can't change date, time and the password. The boot priority is HDD-> FDD-> CD and I can't change it.   The CD/DVD drive is correctly listed in the BIOS? You see the model number of your player? Usually, this should be possible

  And what installation disc, you are starting? You use Microsoft disc or Toshiba Recovery disk?

  Your ad is a little hard to understand, but if t can boot from CD/DVD and the drive does not appear in the BIOS, it seems to be faulty and needs replacing I think

  You see the CD/DVD drive in BIOS? I mean all the details like the name WEIRD etc.
  If this isn't the case, then it means that your CD/DVD drive is not recognized by the BIOS due to a hardware problem.

  If you can see the STRANGE in the BIOS but are still not able to boot from any disk, then I suppose that the CD/DVD drive cannot read the disk for different reasons.

  Yes, this error means that your laptop tried to boot from LAN

  As I said above, it would be possible that the reader s laser lens malfunctions and, therefore, the ODD can't handle the media. It seems that the laser lens can not calibrate properly and can not move in the correct position. This question is not repairable and the drive needs to be replaced.

  The fact is that not all CD/DVD drives are compatible due to different master/slave/C-salt settings. You must use the supported players! In most cases, you can find a list in your user manual what CD/DVD readers are compatible.

  I try to install Debian GNU/Linux on my Windows 8 Ideapad Z710, and I can not even my laptop to boot from an external support.   Try this:

  1. fix the disabled startup.

  2. set start on Legacy Support Mode.

  3. start first priority inheritance

  4 Save and exit.

  5. stop computer.

  6. Insert your usb pendrive.

  7. press on Novo.

  8. Select the Boot menu

  9 select your USB key, and then press ENTER.

  Note: USB Boot must be enabled.

  You just bought an Optiplex 7010 minitower with Win 8 Pro 64 - bit, 8 GB of RAM, 500 GB HDD and an Intel i5 processor 3470.  Now he has BIOS version A16.

  Speed - although you predicted, I am amazed at what I did today.

  I bought a second hard drive (in white) and installed Win 7 Pro 64 - bit SP1 on it.  (I unplugged the first hard drive which has my Win 8 Pro 64-bit.  (Later to figure out how to dual-boot - no not yet for that.)

  What struck me is that I have installed SP1 for Win 7 Pro 64-bit while my BIOS is UEFI - it's ON UEFI and Secure Boot off.  (Enable Legacy ROM is enabled.)  BIOS is the Windows Boot Manager.  The Win 7 Pro 64 - bit SP1 DVD ran perfectly on my CD - DVD unit - no problems of any kind.  The machine has restarted several times, as I adjusted it settings and added the resource of Dell Media CD drivers.

  Disk Management displays only two partitions - a little with the legend "Healthy (EFI System Partition)" and then my C:\ drive, which is indicated be NTFS and 'in good condition (boot, Page File, crash dump, primary Partition).  The properties for the entire drive 0 said "Partition Style: GUID Partition Table (GPT).

  Now - is it good or bad?  If one day I try to dual-boot, what is incompatible with the four partitions on my hard drive to win 8 (now offline)?  Install this fake Win 7?

  I'm even more amazed than the Win 7 Pro 64 - bit auto installed SP1 with a product key that is different from the product key for my Win 8 Pro 64-bit.  The Dell OEM Windows 7 installation disc done by himself - I don't have to enter anything.  Which is good news for a future dual-boot, Yes?

  No, the UEFI BIOS is created to win 8 and if you need to use the other system like Win 7 or a Linux distribution, you will need to disable UEFI BIOS and secure boot.

  The system is 10 years old... BIOS A00 - August 2004. The latest version of the BIOS is 8 years old February 2006. This system may be too old to be able to boot from USB.

  Here's a question I would ask. Your computer is 64-bit compatible? If it isn't, it's probably one of the reasons why you would receive this error message. Please run the Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if your computer is ready for 64-bit.

  When you upgrade to 8.1 Windows it will replace your Windows 8.0. The only way I know to have both is to buy a copy of Windows 8.1 and install on another partition or drive.  Hope this helps and if you need another post to help and we will be happy to help you.

  Hi all, I have problems with my HP Pavilion g6-2390sa Windows 8, I am trying to boot from a DVD of windows 7.

  I activated the CDROM boot, options of the legacy also and the DVD/CD internal as primary boot device in the options of the efi and the legacy.

  When I boot the system I press the F9 key to selection of the boot device, but the CD/DVD drive is not listed?

  Internal DVD/CD was registered mysteriously once but since I restarted it is no longer present in the list of boot devices, and I did not change between the two BIOS?

  Any help would be greatly appreciated, btw the DVD player works perfectly under windows 8 and I have bootable media in the drive.

  What I would do, is to download the W7 ISO from the link below - DL version of W7 that sits on your DVD, the ISO Microsoft USB tool allows you to set the ISO to a flash drive, see if you can boot from the flash drive and use the product key from your DVD.  For this, you will need a 4 GB or more large USB flash drive.
