cannot close tab

This page does not close the tab. It appears a dialog box and when you close that and try again to close the tab, it pops up again.

You have to use the Task Manager to kill the process, and then reload and kill the tab before it could complete the code on the page

  • The title bar has stopped working and now I can't close the page with the cross or minimize or maximize, cannot close the pages

Toolbar is not functional cannot use the cross at the top to close and cannot minimize or maximize the pages.

What program is this (name and version)?

Are you sure that the title bar is not hidden because the screen is in full screen mode?  Make sure it is in normal mode (usually hit the ESC key will do that).  When you say that you "cannot minimize or maximize or close pages" is because you don't see these icons or press them, and they do not work?  You see the title bar?  Is it the same with EACH program or all instances of this particular program, or only with this page?

If it's an open program, you can still use the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and do a right click on the prgram open and then click Close.  If it isn't there, it can also be hidden. Move your mouse to the bottom of the screen and see if the toolbar appears.  If so right click on it and select properties and uncheck Hide able toolbar and click OK to close - that way it will always show (except when it is in full screen mode).

You can also press CTRL-ALT = DEL to bring up the Manager tasks, go to Applications and select the program that you want to close, and then click end task.

If you have access to the Menu bar, you can usually go into file, and then click close tab or simply close.

If you can help me with answers to my questions (assuming that what I said has not solved the problem), then I will answer you with some suggestions to solve the problem (whatever it is)-, but there are too many possibilities without knowing more about the problem.

    Thanks and good luck!

  • Y at - it a shortcut to 'return' or 'close tab', according to?

When you browse a topic, I often Google it, then command-click on the links to open them in new tabs. While they are loading, I can continue browsing the Google page for more links.

Then, when I start to visit the newly created tabs, I click on links in them, sometimes with and sometimes without, command. This generates a tree of Web pages, some on a tab and some different tabs, but all on the same subject.

When I want to cut a branch of the tree, I can use the shortcut "command-[]" (back), if the arrow is dark, or "command-W" (Close Tab) if the arrow is gray. Very practical, but there may be a change that would make it even more manageable...

Is there a single shortcut which will do either, depending on the darkness of the arrow?

I went through the documentation and it's probably not there. But I found a few things that do not exist (command - click here to open a link in a new tab and in the background is very convenient), so I thought I'd ask.

    -Gil

I'm not aware of an extension to get this behavior.

You can open all links in a new tab.
Then you just close the tabs and do not use the back button.

You can open links in a new window.
Then the closure of the last tab in a window closes this window if you have not changed this setting.

  • I upgraded to latest version firefox 29,0 in windows machine 7. All the user interface looks very good. Undo close tab does not work for me. Is that not been addressed?

Undo Close tab does not work in windows 7 for firefox latest version 29,0

You can do this via CTRL + SHIFT + T as well.

You can try to start Firefox in Mode safe to see if Firefox works correctly without error? You can start Firefox in Mode safe below:

    • Windows/Mac: choose Help > restart with disabled modules
    • Linux: run firefox-safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole

If Firefox opens fine with no problems, it is probably one of your extensions that is causing the problem. You can reactivate your modules one by one until you find the one that is causing the problem to be re-activated.

  • Cannot close the new label is displayed at startup.

Occasionally, a new tab opens when you start Firefox in Windows 7 or Ubuntu 12.10. This opens to the page of the new tab by default in Firefox, I put in context: vacuum. This tab are not left by clicking on the 'x', by right clicking and selecting close tab in the menu contextual, or "Ctrl + w". In addition, switching between tabs with "Ctrl + Tab" and "Ctrl + Shift + Tab" jump on this tab. It behaves as if it is already closed, but bad. I suspect that it is perhaps because he has been loaded before the other tabs, pins or House, in the normal process of starting, but never closed, but it appears to the right of the tab of my homepage, not the left. I would try to visit a Web site on this ghost tab to take off, but does not even clicking on it. I remember well, it is selected at the start, so I can try that the next time it happens. Is not a guarantee, but it is also possible that Firefox will simply crash when I try to visit a Web page, and it seems to be loose.

I have not seen this bug for a while, I'll call it resolved. My guess is it was an add-on, and the developer took on and fixed the bug in their latest version. I see that some of my addons are not being updated since I posted this bug report (some of them last year), so if I see the bug, I'll just manually update addons on another machine until I can reproduce it. Then I'll tell the developer and post it here, if anyone is interested.

  • New tab and close tab buttons are not enabled

Firefox new tab page and close tab buttons are not neabled and do a right-click shows the same functions that is not available.

Try Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.

A way of solving problems, which disables most of the modules.

(If you use it, switch to the default theme).

    • You can open the mode without failure of Firefox 4.0 + by pressing the SHIFT key when you use the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • Or use the Help menu option, click restart with the disabled... modules while Firefox is running.

Do not choose anything at the moment, just use 'continue in safe mode.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the shortcut of Firefox (without the Shift key) to open it again.

If it's good in Firefox Safe mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one.

  • Under 'File' (above), I've lost 'Close tab' can help you?

Thank you very much. It works very well.

  • Why not FF 3.6.24 write 'Close tab' in the Console log?

Whenever I get close a tab (a few seconds thereafter) Firefox 3.6.24 wrote the following line to the console system (OS X) log:

    . org.Mozilla.Firefox [7254] close-tab tab

    Curious. Why?

    OS X 10.5
    Firefox 3.6.24

This is caused by the "DownloadHelper" version 4.9.8 Firefox addon.

Line dhCore.js 819, there was this statement:

    dump ("close tab-"+ event.target.tagName+"\n" ');

In case you're curious, any Javascript can print messages in console.log using the dump() function, and any addon can cling in browser events like tabs are closed.

You can safely comment this out by prefixing the line with "/ /" (without the quotation marks), and then restart Firefox. I also raised a bug with the developer of the addon: http://bugzilla.downloadhelper.net/show_bug.cgi?id=405

  • I upgraded yesterday so why the "close" tab is no longer in the menu file? How can I close a tab without leaving Firefox?

the option 'close tab' is not on the drop down file today. That was before I updated yesterday to the new version of firefox. So, how can I do to close a tab?

Just right click on the tab you want to close, and select close tab option.
Otherwise, press Ctrl + W (or) Ctrl + F4 to close the active tab.

  • Firefox 4 the "Close tab" button is missing from the "File" menu drop-down

In Firefox 4, the "Close tab" button appears not in the "file" pull down.

This button appears in Firefox 3.6.16 but is now gone.

I need when I have two windows open, each with one tab open and I want to close a window.

The only option presented to me is "Quit", that closes both windows...

It would be good [if they insist on the order being missing] to have SOMETHING beyond the CTRL-W command [which fortunately works again]. I thought it was a windows application and not BACK. I hope that the command is available in a menu drop down, especially because it has a long history of existence in a rational place.

It will be interesting justify how to remove a menu command dropdown is somehow "better".
