Cannot copy files in Vista to a flash drive

I am running Vista on a Dell Inspiron 530 and have tried to prepare my pc for installation of Windows 7.  I looked at other threads on this forum with similar problems, but have not found all of this sounds similar to my situation.  I tried to copy files such as my work Lotus document, Favorites files and picture files on a 32 GB Sandisk flash drive to save them before making the migration to 7.

First of all, I had set up and files on the flash drive and then copied the data from drive C by using the copy and paste commands.  A strange thing happened when I pasted the images and the Favorites in the files of the flash player that I had put in place for these data was that the system insisted on the creation of its own files for these two files even if I paste in the files that I install.  I had the time that deleting the folder empty two I had the installer and then rename the files that the system had created.  When I had finished I posted the content of each of these files and they all contained what I expected to see.  Then, I closed the window and going on to something else.  Later I returned a new is to look at these files, I had created on the drive flash and discovered that they were not there.  With the exception of two small files that included Sandisk on the disc, it was empty.

I might add that one of the reasons why I have do this upgrade is because Vista goes into a 'blocking' occasionally, and forcing me to delete a running via the Task Manager program, or if a system reboot.  The system restore feature is disabled.  I am the only user of this system and it is not on a network.

I would appreciate help to solve this problem.  Thank you

You are quite welcome.

Everything I do or choose here, it will not save. I hit the Restore Defaults and it does nothing. What should I do to resolve this problem and allow full of Windows 7 installation? (my computer is a Compaq Presario V6000).

    Hello

What installation media you are using?

    Method 1:

Error 0 x 80070017 translates "CRC error" which means that the files that are copied from the disc are not making it to the hard drive with the same structure, which means that the 'original' the disk files are modified/changed/corrupted while being copied to the location of the 'destination' on your disk during Setup.

This usually means a bad DVD, or an error reading on the DVD player.

  • Errro message "cannot copy file: path is too deep.

Inequality on the what, why, how do to the error message "cannot copy file: path is too deep." I would like to know the causes and possible prevention and or all of the information available on this issue. The problem occurs when copying large files and sometimes small files on external hard drive to the top.

Even though the file itself may become a 9-character file name extension, it could be buried inside several files.  Thus, when you step on your external USB drive and it appears as, say, M: drive, the number of characters in the complete path to the file starting with "M:\. "and including all of the directories in the path to the file as well as the number of characters in the name of the file itself must not exceed 255 or Windows refuses to handle.

Robocopy is a command line program.  You must type in the command from a command prompt window (start-> Run-> "cmd").  It works by accessing the file using a set of routines to copy the different library that does not have the limit of 255 characters.  A documentation file must accompany Robocopy explaining how to use it.

Another method that might work for you is to take the folder that your .wmv file is in (or maybe both files above) and to temporarily move to the root directory of your external hard drive.  This shorten the path to the file and allow a normal copy of work.

  • Toshiba Kira - Win 8.1 cannot see all files on the 64 GB flash drive

    Hi all

Newbie on this forum. I just bought the i5 8 GB of RAM Windows 8.1 Kira Ultrabook, a great little machine.

I have a SanDisk 64 GB flash drive that has about 20 GB on it in a dozen files. These folders and the content can be seen by my Windows 7 PC, even my mobile phone and Tablet Tower.

However, the Kira cannot see both files, even if in the properties of the drive, he sees the space correctly. Turned on all folders and no difference.
My wife has a 32 GB flash - no problem.

I reformatted the flash disk, run a virus on the disk and the Kira. The Kira can someone verify the maximum size flash can see it please? I can't find it in any documentation.

Any help or suggestions appreciated - I ran support Toshiba without a response, so maybe someone here can help you.

    Hi drumaboy,

    1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    2. the problem when you copy files or file at various locations on the computer?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
