Damaged or missing USB drivers?

When I turned on my laptop this morning, I couldn't plug my webcam or anything with any one of the USB ports. I looked in the Device Manager and it shows little yellow exclamation points in front of my "Intel 82801 g ich7 family USB host controller" (27 8, 27 C 9, 27CA and 27CB) and also the '82801 g ich7 family USB2 enhanced host controller Intel' (27CC). When I right click and click Properties, they all said "Windows cannot load the driver for this hardware device. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39). Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device. "I've updated drivers, restarted several times, has started in safe mode, ran the Microsoft patch, uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them. Everything worked very well before going to bed last night. Is anyone know how can I do to solve this? Sorry that this is so long! Im running Windows Home Edition XP x 32 SP3 on an Acer Travelmate 2480. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Last night, I installed 14 Windows updates right before I turned off the laptop. I wonder if this could have something to do with what happens the first thing this morning?

Acutually that I just fixed it! I found this site - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic121028.html - on google and followed the instructions and Im completely fixed!

The unit may be damaged or missing. "I want to upgrade to 7, but can not run the dvd, and apparently MS has no download available if you purchase cd!  Am tearing my hair!

    Hi krt2,

    In general, the error can be caused by a missing required device driver, a required binary file is damaged, if there is a problem with the process I/O file, or if a pilot that makes reference to an entry point in another binary file which can not load

    You can try to uninstall and reinstall the driver for the device to solve this problem.

    Step 1: Uninstall the CD/DVD driver. Follow this step to do the same thing:

    a. click the Start button, select Control Panel, click System and Maintenance and then click Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    b. expand CD-ROM/DVD-Rom drives-> right click on the device, and then click Properties.

    c. on the device properties dialog box, click the driver tab, and then click on uninstall.

    d. restart your computer.

    Step 2: Reinstall the CD/DVD driver by visiting the manufacturer's Web site.

    See the links below for more details on the update of drivers:

    Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.

    Restore point:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-system-restore/

    Do Safe Mode system restore, if it is impossible to do in Normal Mode.

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

    Read the above for a very good graph shows how backward more than 5 days in the System Restore Points by checking the correct box.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html
    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:
  • USB drivers are missing (after installing Win7).
    Hi all!
    I bought a laptop HP - pavilion 17-f008sr Energy star (G7Y08EA).
    There was a Windows 8 operating system. To work on this laptop, I installed a Windows 7 (64 bit) operating system.
    That I started a system, I saw a problem with my USB in Device Manager (serial bus universal usb controller and Sm bus controller). As a result, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 did not work.
    I spent a lot of time to find different drivers to try to solve this problem, but I still have it. Drivers usb Intel and pilots much even not work with my laptop and do not install it because I don't have a good system for a large part of the drivers I found. Please help, Im very tired and I don't know what to try. Bravo to all, who know ways to solve the problem with the lack of USB drivers.
    Hello:
    Download and install the AMD Chipset drivers and reboot.
    You want the first file on the Web page.
    http://support.AMD.com/en-us/download/chipset?OS=Windows%207%20-%2064
    For the smbus controller...
    Here's what I did... I have zipped and attached below in attachments, the raw smbus controller driver files to decompress and install manually.
    Download and unzip the file.
    Go to Device Manager and click the controller smbus needing drivers.  Click the driver tab.  Click on set to update driver.
    Select her browse my computer for driver software option and navigate to the driver folder that you unzipped.
    Make sure that the include subfolders is selected and the driver should install.  Then restart.
  • My USB drivers are missing
    Hello everyone, since a long time owner of the Palm OS device, usually like them, but I have a problem now. I have a hp NetBook Windows XP running and he seems to have lost the USB drivers for my Palm OS devices.
    I have a Garmin iQue 3600 and a Palm TX. I have my updated desktop PC in place if both HotSync of Palm Desktop 4.1.4e successfully, which is the new Palm Desktop that can be synced to the iQue. Therefore, please tell me not upgrading to 4.2 or any newer version of Palm Desktop, as I've tried, and the iQue does not recognize them and won't sync with them.
    My problem is on the NetBook, I've also been able to synchronize two devices for Palm Desktop 4.1.4e, then all of a sudden in the last two weeks, whenever I plug a device into the USB port, Win XP suddenly can't recognize them. I am able to HotSync the TX via Bluetooth, but the iQue doesn't have Bluetooth or WiFi and the NetBook doesn't have an IrDA port, it is so quite important that I get the USB drivers works again.
    Can anyone help with this, please? I am deploying in Iraq in a few weeks, and I want to be able to synchronize two devices throughout my deployment.
    THANKS AND BYE - ads
    Hello Adnan,
    There is unfortunately no way to load your operating system with the error you describe. As you have already discovered it does not load even in 'SAFE' mode
    This means that you only options for recovery are: -.
    1 reinstall the recovery CDs (which will lose all your data during the re-form)
    2 try to recover the situation by using a Microsoft Installation CD authentic (by using the Recovery Console)
    3 remove the hard drive from your laptop and screw (with a USB caddy) to another PC so that you can
    Retrieve your data befor using option 1 above.
    Option 3 would probably be your best way to recover and would mean that you would not lose your data.
    I also recommend that you invest in a proper backup strategy (possibly drive external hard USB and a utility such as Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image) so that you can protect your system from such incidents in the future.
    Kind regards
  • How can I remove the existing driver files to overcome (Code 39) USB drivers?
    I am running Vista Home Premiun 32 and generally have few problems for about 18 months because my laptop came with the operating system installed.
    Recently, my USB drivers do not work (as in the drivers of USB controller rather than the connected devices). Device displays the symbol of my USB controllers and gives code 39 error Manager, that's to say the drivers are install correctly, but Windows is unable to run. Windows can certainly find and identify devices.
    Two things happened before that:
    (1) I have receieved some windows updates.
    (2) I installed a backup software which seems to have prevented windows start: I had to uninstall the software by using regedit via the command prompt, and then, everything seemed fine.
    It may, however, have been a problem that has just reached the point of crisis, given that windows has grown more glitch with my wireless adapter built-in and now don't see any; I think it's connected via USB controllers.
    I uninstalled and reinstalled the USB controllers. I even deleted the INF cache and repeated the process of re - install.
    Now, I want to delete the files from the driver completely from the driver store. Existing files are old (modification dates are from the beginning of 2008, or even from 2006), and I want to force Windows to find entirely new software drivers. When I uninstall, I not give me the option to delete files. When I try to delete them manually, I find that I don't have the correct security permissions to do so. Windows doesn't let me change the permissions, simply showing the menus change with the buttons greyed out.
    This problem is in danger of turning my laptop a doorstop; There, someone at - it a solution?
    Thanks for any help,
    Ackers
  • Removed usb drivers Device Manager
    Hello
    I had a problem with the USB and Firewire connections on my HP XW8400 PC.  The system works under windows xp pro.  The problem I had was that some devices/readers etc were not noticed when I plugged the different Slots USB or firewire and others have been.  I have a dongle usb constantly on my system to run a publishing package that I use on a daily basis... I also have an attached Firewire/USB PCI card.  I use the rear firewire and slots of the editing software and hard drives USB and USB slots front is where I keep my dongle and I use the usb port and firewire for other devices such as readers, usk sticks, cameras etc etc.  As I say, things work well, other custom.  For those who don't to correctly connect the peripheral material Add Wizard would come upward, I press on to connect to the web to search for and then it they'd material device wzard found no drivers/solution/whatever.  Being that it is my main computer to work I didn't want to risk anything and so have put up with him for a long time.  However, these days, I need to get a camera connected to the said work stations and so made test after trying to install the software to factory for the camera via camera software CD and realizing that he did not always work.  I used Malware Bytes and it came with nothing and then AGV antivirus and it came wirth nothing.  Ok... So I thought that it MUST be something to do with the USB (and Firewire) themselves.
    I searched on google and it brought me to this microsoft support page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310575 I read through it and he said how to uninstall and re-install the usb via Device Manager drivers.  I went through the instructions and I have clicked on each of the usb devices in Device Manager and uninstalled.  Then I restarted my computer and when it said that it had detected new hardware everytime I clicked on the Hardware Wizard it now impossible to connect to the internet because one of the devices was my router to wide band.  GREAT!
    So, I spent half a day to find the original Windows CD and I reflected on the drive, but couldn't find anything to do with the USB drivers.
    I tried the last known good configuration and that was obviously after deleting files of drivers said Ihad closed and restarted a couple of times since then.
    I checked the system restore and that has been cut!
    If someone could please tell me how to install the said USB controller to ensure that I get the USB drivers installed?
    I'm guessing I now need to go through the window / each device and find the software CD and add the drivers, but I don't even know if I have half of the Conference on disarmament, or they just instantly connect via XP.  I certainly can't find anything for my router, which means I can't even on the web.
    And why has my material wizerd for usb and firewire devices summer miss me for so long?
    All advice appreciated.
    PS... Microsoft, don't you think not that 1 - it would be wise to let people know on the above mentioned page remove the usb drivers may well turn off your Internet so that the wizard doesn't work and you can visit his profile when you connect.  If she had said that I would never be deleted.  2. due to some software I use (Avid Media Composer) on the specially designed workstation, there are various conflicts that occur when the upgrade to Service Pack 3, so you stop the real users of microsoft products to have access to your DIFFICULTY IT thingymajig if they decide to stay on service pack 2.  Why make life so hard Micfrosoft?  I'm very careful with my systems.  I should have a choice of not having to be upgraded if it means he can endanger other packages, but I'll always freedom of basic set of tools and services that you offer.  I'm fed up.   The following, that I get computer is a MAC!
    You're right, that Windows XP has drivers for a large number of features built into the operating system.  Peripheral USB in particular are supposed to be 'plug and play' - you simply connect the device to the computer, it goes "Bong", and the device is recognized and installed.
    A "Repair Installation" window is supposed to leave all your applications and your data intact - but you will almost always see advice to backup everything that you care about the 'just in case '.
