Cannot delete directory tree

I had a request are able to convince Windows to screw up its file structure in two folders. When I try to delete the directory runaway tree I get the message error "the folder contains items whose names are too long for the Recycle Bin.  After choosing the option Yes it is followed by another error message "the name of the source file is larger that can be supported by the file system. Try to move to a place that has a way more short name, or try renaming to shorter name (s) before performing this operation. ', then' the file name may be too long for the destination folder. You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location with a shorter path "."
The end result is that the directory tree cannot be deleted.
I think there may be a third-party tool out there to remedy this wrong behavior of the BONE from the window.
I had hoped that Microsoft would provide a way to correct that a fault that is OS allowed to occur.

Place the blame in the wrong place.

Too many times have I given ridiculous people with file names and folders structures.

You may be able to create a link to a directory close to the files you want to learn to (probably something similar was done by the application that supposedly does this) using something like the old command SUBST to start a directory/drive (or give the impression that even when it starts) at a different point than the original reality (google for the subst command.)

  • Installing Oracle 11 g RAC 2: cannot delete directory under/tmp bootstrap

    People,

    Hello. I want to install Oracle 11 g RAC 2 with 2 Virtual Machines (rac1 and rac2 which BONES are Oracle Linux 5.6) VMPlayer and according to the tutorial

    http://appsdbaworkshop.blogspot.com/2011/10/11gr2-RAC-on-Linux-56-using-VMware.html

    I'm installing network infrastructure. I'm on step 7/10 (check the installation grid environment) and you get this error:

    "Free space: Rac2: / tmp '.
    Cause: Could not determine the mounting point for the specified location.
    Action: Check the specified location is available.
    Expected value: n/a
    "Actual value: n/a"

    In order to correct the above error, I run "cluster verification utility" according to
    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E14072_01/RAC.112/e10717/CVU.htm I run the following command:

    [ora11g@rac1-] $ /home_grid/runcluvfy.sh pre - crsinst - n rac1, rac2-verbose stage

    Output:
    / bin/rm: cannot remove directory ' / tmp/bootstrap ': operation not permitted
    ./runcluvfy.sh:line 99:/tmp/bootstrap/ouibootstrap.log: permission denied

    The above output, we see that the bootstrap of under/tmp directory is causing the problem. The solution is to remove bootstrap directory. I run the 2 commands:

    [ora11g@rac1 tmp] $ rmdir bootstrap

    Output: Operation not permitted

    bootstrap [ora11g@rac1 tmp] $ rm - rf

    Output: cannot remove bootstrap: operation not permitted.

    [ora11g@rac2 tmp] $ ls

    Output: there is no directory "bootstrap".

    My questions are:

    First of all, who "cannot remove bootstrap in rac1" cause/tmp in rac2 could not be determine mount point?

    Secondly, all folk can help remove bootstrap directory under the directory/tmp?

    Thank you.

    Change ownership and permission to your home of Oracle mount point will not fix your problems with your directory/tmp. Please see my previous response. The directory/tmp uses a little "sticky", that defines the owner of a file or a directory on the owner of the process, when it was created. You've probably run a previous attempt to install Oracle by another user instead of 'ora11g', in your example, so when you run a later installation as the user 'ora11g' he can't of course cleaning of these files. For security reasons, you cannot create a directory in / tmp, as a single user and use the other to remove it unless you're root or set access permissions. Umask will define access permissions when you create a file or a directory. The value of umask (default 0022) will be deducted from 777, causing e.g. 755 or 775 in your examples. If you need help to understand these codes, Google will be your best friend. Regarding cross access of files between nodes, make sure you have equivalence (ssh key) user installation and functioning. Cluster verification utility will also check if it works.

  • Cannot delete device tree configuration switchblock

    I physically removed several unused switchblock of 2800 carrier cards, they appear in red x in MAX configuration tree, but there is no option to delete or remove the devices from the tree.  Online help says right-click on the name of the device and select Remove, but there is no option to delete in the menu.

    Hi Bholsinger,

    Thank you for bringing this to us.

    We tabled an error report (CAR # 609019) to address and solve this problem.

    I can't guarantee when it will get taken care of, but it is on the radar of the dev team.

    In the meantime we have two solutions of workarounds for the problem:

    • Remove and re-add the SwitchBlock together carrier
      1. Shut down the system and remove the bracket SwitchBlock

      2. Turn on the system and delete the MAX carrier

      3. Turn the system pulling back and insert the carrier with the desired modules

      4. When you re - fuel system, you can reconfigure the carrier as you wish

    * If you have configuration data (the names of custom device, scales, tasks, etc.). I would highly recommend you to export your configuration data (file > Export).  You can then edit the file to remove SwitchBlock items you want.  Then restart the system, you can import the file (file > import).  Otherwise, you will need to re-create all your custom data after reset the database.

    I personally recommend the first option because it is the simplest, but please let us know if any of these options works for you. I know that they are not ideal, but I hope that you find them satisfactory in the meantime

  • Cannot delete the folder/directory

    I have a fuze 8 GB with the last update of the firmware. I'm having a problem to delete empty folders from the repertoire of music. I tried to copy a music file from my laptop to the "rocket". The copy process does not work I got was a folder with the name of the artist & album and a subfolder and not mp3 files. Then I tried to delete these folder and got the message "cannot delete a subfolder: the file in the directory is corrupted and unreadable". operating system is windows xp, home edition. Is there a way to delete these files? or will I have to reformat the "rocket"?

    Thank you

    Thank you. Procedure has worked and now I can delete the folder on my rocket.

  • Infinite nested directories - cannot delete.

    Hey, I tried to copy a directory I had on my system files, and my computer sent me an error saying it could not copy.
    I looked in the phone book to see what was causing the problem and found that I got the infinite set of nested directories.

    The path is as follows:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\NICK MILLER\My Documents\JOGL 2\jogamp-windows-i586\lib\"

    In the folder lib final, is another lib folder. And the Interior which is another lib folder. I have the first lib folder right click and check its properties. He said that it contained about 44 records.

    When I try to delete the first lib folder, I get the following error message.

    Error deleting file or folder
    Cannot remove lib: the specified file name is not valid or too long. Specify a different file name.

    I know this cannot be linked to any newly installed software because this issue is related to some Java API, I downloaded earlier.

    On another interesting note, I tried to change all file names to contain only one of the names of characters of 'lib' to 'a '.
    And oddly enough, as soon as there was enough space available to add another lib folder, it would create a new folder.
    So now, I have about 85 cases. 83 of which are names 'a' and the last couple 'lib '.

    I think it is a virus to be honest, but I'm not sure.

    Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    It might be malware (you have not identified you're a / v application or it is indicated if you have scanned with MalwareBytes anti-malware or SUPERAntiSpyware), but given that you seem to work with Java development, it can also be a wild Java application.

    In any case, one of the following techniques should work for you:

    Starting a thread 6 year of Ms. former MVP R.C. White:

    Although we don't usually see each file/folder with a Long file name
    (LFN) has also a computer-created short file name (SFN), also known as
    8.3 file name, since it is limited to 8 characters plus and optional
    3 character extension. (This goes back in the history of the computer to)
    MS-DOS and before.)

    To view your folder 8.3 file name, open a command prompt and enter:
    Dir/x

    This command must be the usual list of all files and folders
    in this directory, as with the plain Dir command. But the /x switch
    create an additional column, before the LFN, showing the SFN for any file or
    folder whose LFN does not also the requirements of 8.3. There may be
    a space or other "illegal" character in the name of the file. The SFN to an LFN
    likely 6 characters, followed of ~ 1, or of some other figures.

    Use the command Del or RD with the PNS to remove your file or remove your
    folder. With the help of RD /s for the top-level folder must remove everything
    directory tree.

    (As always in a command prompt window, type the name of any command followed
    by /? See all switches and parameters that are available with this command,
    such as: Dir /? )

    \B.  If method A doesn't work

    You said you tried to rename the files in order to make the shortest path, but as soon as you got the shortest path, a new subdirectory is created.  You must stop this from happening.  You can uninstall your Java development software, according to John Rubdy, or choose one of the following methods:

    (a) restart mode without failure or (b) the clean boot mode or (c) open both a Command Prompt windows and Task Manager and stop explorer.exe using the Task Manager (do not close the Task Manager).

    According to these 3 modes you are, use method A above.  You might also be interested to read here--> http://superuser.com/questions/256105/how-do-i-delete-a-folder-which-is-nested-quite-deep-and-avoid-file-name-too-lon

    If you chose (c), when you are finished with the removal, click on file > new task (run...) in the Manager of tasks to restart explorer.exe.

    C. Si neither A nor B work

    Start the computer by using a live Linux distro (for example, Knoppix) or Hiren BootCD similar boot cd and delete the directory tree by using the tools available.

    I recently downloaded a file and thought I had deleted. However, I managed to create a 0 byte file that appears on my desktop, appears in the file dir / x of order invites and still cannot be moved, renamed, or deleted. Windows reports, "failed to find this article. It is no longer in... ».

    My problem is similar to the "cannot delete illustrates file listed in the file Explorer Vista - does not exist?" thread. I tried several of the steps used in this situation, as the use of a third party file removal tool (KillBox) and also get into the command prompt and try Rd (filename) to remove. I also tried to use e/s (filename), but he kept reporting that "the directory name is incorrect.

  • How can I remove a directory tree that is too deep?

    I used ROBOCOPY to copy the contents of theC:\USERS\ALL USERS in an external drive USB FAT32.  I forgot to include the /XJ switch and, therefore, now have a directory tree that continues to repeat the Application data in a subdirectory.

    When I try to delete it, I get an error message:
    "The names of source files are larget that is supported by the file system."  Try to move to a location that has a shorter path name, or try renaming to name more short (s) before performing this operation. »

    I can't move any part of the directory tree or I can rename it.

    Anyway is to remove the directory tree without having to refomat the player?

    Found this utility that will at least give you an idea if you delete.

  • Create a directory tree: how to call a global function from inside a for loop

    Hello

    I am trying to create a workflow that will create a directory tree in vCenter.

    Concept:

    Basically, I am trying to execute nested for loops for each level of the tree to the caller a global tree.

    Problem:

    Hello

    The createFolder() method returns the object VcFolder to the folder just created, for the new file to be used immediately.  Here is how I modified the code:

    Create the files folderBase level
    for (var i = 0; i)
    var newBaseFolder = buildFolderTree (parentFolder, folderBase [i]);
    Create the files folderT1 level
    for (var j = 0; j)
    var newT1Folder = buildFolderTree (newBaseFolder, folderT1 [j]);
    Create the files folderT2 level
    for (var k = 0; k)
    var newT2Folder = buildFolderTree (newT1Folder, folderT2 [k]);
    Create the files folderT3 level
    for (var x = 0; x)
    var newT3Folder = buildFolderTree (newT2Folder, folderT3 [x]);
    Create the files folderT4 level
    for (var y = 0; y)
    var newT4Folder = buildFolderTree (newT3Folder, folderT4 [y]);
    }
    }
    }
    }

    function buildFolderTree (parentFolderObj, folder_name) {}
    System.log ("Building folder" + folderName);
