Cannot delete the folder where the backup is saved.

I have recently reinstalled Windows.

I have restored my backup in a 'special' folder on the desktop, so I can have the most control over what to keep and what to delete.

now, after I copied the stuff I wanted, I try to remove this unnecessary 'special' folder but Windows won't let me delete it.

I tried to regain control and possession but still get an error Windows cannot delete the folder. and with two options, "try again" and "Cancel".

Can you help me? This file is large and takes place on my hard drive.

Hello

1. what happens when you try to delete the folder?

2. do you get any error code or error message?

I suggest to try to delete the file in safe mode and check if it helps

Start in Safe Mode:

Also try the steps in the following Microsoft article and check if this may help.

Why can't I delete a file or folder? :

Hope the information is useful.

I tried to remove most of the backup sets on an external HARD drive, but always free poster of 465 GB file Explorer only 213 GB.  I chose the drive in "Disk Clean-up, but which showed no files to delete.  I had a virus on the disk scan to see what files have been on this subject, and so there are hundreds of thousands of them, starting by ' $RECYCLE. Hi John

Some of the files that you see (as the trash) are system files and do not need to be deleted.

Before taking other measures, what volume of personal files is on the external hard drive? Did you direct copies of music/photos etc.? -"Free 465 GB only 213 GB" is not quantify how many do you think should be free!

Also - what the drive and were records of backup performed using embedded software of the player?

The best solution here is perhaps simply reformat the drive (after making sure that you have an exact replica of all personal files on your pc that you can then copy to it) but give us a little more detail the first.

  • cannot delete the folder I am one user have access to all the files and folders can remove any but one could take ownership of disk backup file

Cannot delete the folder, I can move it, is presantly on my desk, I'm only user I have access to all the files and folders can remove everything, but this one, took possession of the file. file is made backup disk before I reloaded vista Explorer cause did not work right

Try to open an administrator command prompt. Then cd to the desktop. Finally, run 'attrib-h - r s' and also ' attrib s h - r/s -*.» * ». Then right-click on the folder and check the button unblock. Similarly, with all the files in the folder, pledge. Never underestimate your own stupidity.

  • Impossible to remove an unknown account, get the error 'cannot delete the unknown account because this object inherits permissions from its parent.

I have several programs that when I go to security there is an unknown account and when I try to delete unknown account I get this message that you cannot delete the Unknown(S-1...) account because this object inherits from its parent perssions. To delete the Unknown(S-1...) account, you must prevent this object from inheriting permissions. Turn off the option for the inheritance of permissions and then try to delete the Unknown(S-1...) account again. I tried the edit and advance features in respect of security without success. Why have I not control over security permissions?

Found a solution to this problem.

Go to the folder parent of the folder that contains the files with this unknown account number:
    1. right click on the PARENT folder, and then click Properties.
    2. on the Security tab, go to the advanced options (bottom window)
    3. in the new window, click the button change the permissions in the bottom.
    4. Select the Group (NOT AUTHENTICATED, just of users USERS) users
    5. check "replace all permissions of child object with permissions inheritable of this object.
    6. click on the OK button or apply and done, fixed number.

Hope this helps anyone else having this problem, for me it happened after reinstallation of win 7 on the same machine and keep my images on another partition, so it was spared by the new facility, so the old user account was always on the file permissions.

I have a folder called test on my desk that I created to try the xcopy commands.  Anyone who has nothing to do with it.  I think that when I created the folder I could add a space somewhere in the file name.  He is currently empty that I deleted a word of her documents.

However I can't remove it.   It says cannot delete the file. "Cannot find this item. Photosmart C6380 - cannot delete the document removed from the print queue.

    Hello

From the desktop, hold down the Windows key and press R.  In the run window, type services.msc and press to enter.  Scroll down to the print spooler , made service right click and select Properties, then click the Stop button.  Now search for C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS, then delete the work inside this folder - you may need to click a command prompt to get the authority to open the PRINTERS folder.

Restart the computer and you should find that the documents have been deleted.

  • I deleted the backup but the iCloud space does not come back?

    Hello, I'm Edding:

A few days earlier, iCloud warn me your iCloud-storage space is nearly full , so I check Storage manage my iCloud and I find backing up my iPhone and iPad are about 3 G of space above. So I delete the backup on iPhone.

BUT!, so far, the backup space deleted do not come back?

This is a shot of the screen of the Preferences system-> iCloud-> Manage

Is there something wrong with that?

    THX.

Seems like you always have space reserved for your backup. One of the fixes that worked for me was to start backup until it becomes larger, then removes it again.

I also heard that he did not work for some.

I need to install a new drive for backup for SBS 2008.

The Backup Wizard fails with the message "cannot configure the backup schedule.

I looked on the MS Support and the only link is related to the target being too small. Although does not here apply.

The log file indicates that the operation failed because "the critical volumes cannot be excluded", but I included C drive in its entirety. There is a system drive D, but it is not available in the backup configuration.

    Any suggestions?

  • partition 'Windows cannot delete the active system partition on this disk.

I created a partition of HARD drive in order to install a system in multiboot using XP and Vista, but I did mess up the BONES of the two. Now I want to do a clean install of Vista ONLY, but I don't know how to get rid of the partition! * Example: Computer management > disk management > right-click on the volume (M) > Delete Volume * but I get an error: "Windows cannot delete the active system partition on this disk" can someone help me to get my Vista to original?

P.S. I have the "Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium32 - bit Operating System Disk" provided with my computer when I bought it new. Thank you! -Jeff

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

Delete the existing Partitions during the process.

  • Cannot delete the file. Says "not not found could not find this item check the location of this object and try again."

Cannot delete the file.  Says "not not found could not find this item check the location of this object and try again."

I got this file from my friend got sent - is a word document, I had on their computer.  So I tried to use Disk Cleanup to delete temporary files, temporary internet files and files program downloaded.  Does not work.

When I check the properties, there is no security tab so I can't transfer ownership in this way.

I don't want to experiment using the way of the transfer of ownership command prompt as the name of the file is several sentences long.  I can't rename it either, of course.

Windows 7, a week and I already have a stupid problem which has already lost an hour of my time.

What I did was to create a Notepad file that was empty and saved in the same location as the file that won't go away.  Once registered.  I click with the right button on the new file and rename the exact name as the file problem.  Don't forget to change the file extension (ex: .doc)

    ex file problem: word.doc

    new file: word.doc

as long as they match eachother exactly you should see the file problem disappear and once that's gone, you can delete the new file created.

    Hello

    Method 1:

Run the fixit available in the link below and check if that makes a difference

Hardware devices do not work or are not detected in Windows

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/en-us

Method 2: Perform a clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error message, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • Extractdion failed, cannot delete the output file

    I have Windows Pro 8, 64-bit, 8G of RAM.

When you try to install the drivers of HP, I get the following error.  Extraction failed, cannot delete the output file.  I get the same error using the download I used to use with Win 7 and a new download from the HP Web site.  I have also tried to run the program as an adminitratior and get the same error message.

I managed to do the work.  I found on my C drive the location of the files when extracted and run the installation program from there.

You are right that I am on 11.1.1.7.140225

Open the file system-jazn - data .xml

And by removing the additional entry manually

    So I deleted the following

    weblogic.security.principal.WLSUserImpl rodneyc

Then when I went back to EM the user had gone as planned. I'm guessing that something screwed up in this file, but all right
