Cannot delete the registry key

I use Vista as an administrator.  I would like to delete the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR\Disk & Ven_RIM & Prod_BlackBerry_SD & Rev_0003.  I right-click and click on delete.  I wonder I want to permantently delete the key and subkeys, click Yes.  I get a message saying ' cannot delete the disk & Ven_RIM & Prod_BlackBerry_SD & Rev_0003: error while deleting key.»

I'm with the right button and go to permissions.  I try to change the permissions for everyone and the OWNER RIGHTS to full control.  I get the message saying "cannot save changes to permissions on disk & Ven_RIM & Prod_BlackBerry_SD & Rev_0003.  Access is denied. »

Should what step I take then to perform this deletion?  Thank you!!!

You shouldn't go around deleting keys. Why do you really want to delete this key? What program the key belongs? Uninstall the program only removes the key? Otherwise, try to uninstall it in safe mode, or go to the manufacturer's website to see if they have a problem. They have a tool to remove the application. If the program has recently been installed you can also use system restore to remove it. Thank you, Jeremy M - Support Engineer

  • Periodically remove the registry keys with the Task Scheduler?

I wonder if it is possible to create a batch script or similar small program to periodically delete the registry keys, specifically:

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify]
    "PastIconsStream".

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify]
    "IconStreams".

A little history on why I want to do this:

My computer is configured to dual boot (Vista and Fedora Linux), with a score of shared data.  I also use Dropbox for a group of records.  It complicates things with a system dual boot because the folder name is different in each system (vs My Dropbox Dropbox).  I worked around this by creating hubs and symbolic links in each operating system of 'real' folders to default Dropbox folders as appropriate.

This works as expected. The only problem is that Windows Dropbox does not monitor files for changes and checks only when the program starts.  To work around this problem, I created a small script that kills Dropbox and scheduled to run every half hour using the Scheduler of tasks, followed by a task to start Dropbox.

The only problem with this is that over time I find myself with hundreds of copies of the Dropbox icon in the status bar Notification area.  I found some instructions to reset the cache of the icon, which is to remove the two above mentioned registry keys and restart the Explorer.  So my question (finally!) is really about if there is a way to automatically reset it one or twice a day, rather than manually deleting the key each time that I remember.

Of course, if there is a better/more way to deal with this, I'm happy to hear about it!

    Hi Mander,.

Editing the registry, especially using a batch file and the Planner is, in my opinion, a little dangerous. After all, a bad move a your system registry key could easily be paralyzed.

I don't really know if my suggestion would be to use or not, but it's worth a try. There is a (free) third-party application called CCleanerwww.ccleaner.com it effectively removes temporary internet files, history, cookies, index.dat file and a host of other things too. An option available in the "Advanced" tab Windows section is to clear the "tray notification cache. Do you think that this is likely to help solve your problem without needing to run a batch file? It's only a suggestion like the registry rated - is not my field, but, like I said the app will costs you nothing and it is certainly worth giving it a try. It can do what you want it to do. Just a suggestion!

  • Cannot write to the registry key for Acrobat XI - Error 1406

    Hi all

I have a problem regarding the installation of Adobe Acrobat XI 11.0.07 on a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium OS.

In short, I cannot complete the installation of Adobe Acrobat XI on this machine because Acrobat is not able to write the value to the registry key that is located here:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-> SOFTWARE-> Microsoft-> Internet Explorer-> toolbar.

I tried to find solutions on the internet and found a Web page on the Adobe Forums, which is this: Error 1406.Could not write the value Adobe ARM - and it was not very useful, since the person requesting to solved his problem, but did not say how he did. So, I found this page using Acrobat, called Error 1402. Error 1406. Acrobat, Reader where I tried different solutions, but so far none of them have worked. What I did to remove all previous versions of Adobe Acrobat, Reader, Air and so on. In fact, I deleted all Adobe software, in which case one of these programs were to blame, but it did not work. Before that I have deleted all this software, I deleted Acrobat and Reader several times, but you have probably already found, it did not work. As it did not work, I tried the following solution using Acrobat, which was to 'Set permissions to their default values in the registry'. I followed the solution completely and does what he says, but it did not work. As a note, I must say that the type of registry key with that I have a problem called 'Locked', is a REG_DWORD type and the data value is (0). That this has something to do with it? I'm not too familiar with editing the registry. However, I tried to change the value of (1) and updating the registry, but it did not work...

More information: However if I install the full version of Adobe Acrobat XI or the default installation, the same error pops up: Error 1406. I scan my system with my antivirus Bullguard software, to see if there is no virus. There are not. Also, I closed my antivirus software and turned off the firewall of Bullguard, but this was not successful either, I did a scan of my system using cmd as administrator (sfc/scannow) and the program found a few mistakes, he could not fix. As far as I can see, he finds three files .dll with errors. I have the document called sfcdetails.txt if it would be very useful for you.

In addition, I don't know what to do. I paid for Adobe Acrobat on 23 January 2015 and I failed to make it work properly again, and I can't update the software, because I have a problem with the registry. I am able to use the software for that I had to use it to so far, but I would like to be able to use it for what it represents and update in order to avoid any lapse in security.

Thank you. I hope that you have some ideas for my problem and will be able to help me!

    Best regards

    Mads

    Hello Rahul,

I found a way around the problem I described in the post. What I did to reinstall Adobe Acrobat XI and do not install the PDFMaker for Internet Explorer, and this solved the problem! And since I do not use Internet Explorer for PDF do, it's good for me, and now I am able to update to Acrobat. But for people who would like to use Internet Explorer for making PDF, it is of couse is not suitable... But for me it is. I still don't know how to solve this problem. It might have something to do with the fact that Adobe Acrobat XI is not able to support Internet Explorer 11, but this was written by a user on the Adobe forums, so I don't know if it's reliable. The "help Acrobat / compatible browsers and applications of PDFMaker Guide" immediately said that he made, but I'm not sure. Maybe it's a compatibility issue?

in any case, thanks for the answer you gave - but I found myself

    Best regards

  • Huawei has installed a malware during the installation of the drivers for the wireless modem: tips to remove the registry keys?

    Huawei sd usb storage

Applies to: Windows | Windows Vista | Hardware and drivers

A month before, I let a co-worker install a modem Wireless USB as Huawei to use my laptop somewhere without wifi service.  Subsequently, I uninstalled the software drivers because I don't think I'll ever use this modem again.

Now, I noticed that there are several registry keys for different devices of e/s as:
    Huawei_sd_storage_usb
    and
    Huawei_some other drive type

None of these registry keys can be deleted, I get an error saying that "year error occurred during an attempt to delete the key.  Same thing if I try to write data in the registry key.  This behavior resembles a persistent virus and not a register legitimate supporting a legitimate PnP device.

I then rebooted in safe MODE, thinking which should pick up anything the malware is hung.  No go, same thing, cannot remove the key and cannot modify the data in the key.

None of the malware scanners were able to detect this, including:
    Paid last AVG
    Windows Defender
    Microsoft Security Essential
    Spybot S & D latest
    Malware Microsoft Fixit

I don't trust Huawei, and what look like these keys are to monitor my laptops I/O activities through any player or the USB port.

    HP DV5t-1000 CTO
    Pentium dual core 2.54
4 GB of DDR, Home Premium Vista 64

I'm moving your question on the forum of Windows for material and the Drivers. These are the registry keys related to the legitimate drivers provided by the manufacturer of the device and are not related to malware.

Note, however, that you have an overload of running security software and some should be deleted. If you use Microsoft Security Essentials, you must disable Windows Defender in Vista and AVG should be removed, preferably using the AVG removal tool. I have no idea what is the Microsoft Malware Fixit.

You should never have more than one security product installed on the PC, providing active protection / scan. This can cause performance problems, system instability and may adversely affect the effectiveness of these two products to provide protection.

  • Restore the registry keys to the initial state of work - XP NTFS and permissions

We have a system Dell / Windows XP (32-bit) / NTFS.

We have changed the permissions and registry keys and need to bring back them to the original state when we bought them. At this very moment the administrator cannot see the network and we think that it was something to do with the registry keys or authorization keys (more than likely the permissions).  We tried to restore the computer to several different States of known work and it is impossible to restore. We do not have a backup, but they have all the original disks that came with it. Is it possible to restore these settings?  Thank you

Photosmart C6380 - cannot delete the document removed from the print queue.

    Hello

From the desktop, hold down the Windows key and press R.  In the run window, type services.msc and press to enter.  Scroll down to the print spooler , made service right click and select Properties, then click the Stop button.  Now search for C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS, then delete the work inside this folder - you may need to click a command prompt to get the authority to open the PRINTERS folder.

Restart the computer and you should find that the documents have been deleted.

    Hi PennyLang,

    ·         What exactly is the problem you are having?

    ·         What is the antivirus installed on the computer program?

  • Impossible to remove an unknown account, get the error 'cannot delete the unknown account because this object inherits permissions from its parent.

I have several programs that when I go to security there is an unknown account and when I try to delete unknown account I get this message that you cannot delete the Unknown(S-1...) account because this object inherits from its parent perssions. To delete the Unknown(S-1...) account, you must prevent this object from inheriting permissions. Turn off the option for the inheritance of permissions and then try to delete the Unknown(S-1...) account again. I tried the edit and advance features in respect of security without success. Why have I not control over security permissions?

Found a solution to this problem.

Go to the folder parent of the folder that contains the files with this unknown account number:
    1. right click on the PARENT folder, and then click Properties.
    2. on the Security tab, go to the advanced options (bottom window)
    3. in the new window, click the button change the permissions in the bottom.
    4. Select the Group (NOT AUTHENTICATED, just of users USERS) users
    5. check "replace all permissions of child object with permissions inheritable of this object.
    6. click on the OK button or apply and done, fixed number.

Hope this helps anyone else having this problem, for me it happened after reinstallation of win 7 on the same machine and keep my images on another partition, so it was spared by the new facility, so the old user account was always on the file permissions.
