Cannot filter Cluster using PowerCLI data warehouses

Hi, I am trying to retrieve information from a data store and I need the cluster, the data store is associated. I have to, reason or another, can't use the clusters in the searchroot as parameter:

$cluster = get-Cluster-name "mycluster.

Notice-EEG - ViewType Datastore SearchRoot - $cluster.id

It does not return anything for me, where as if I replace the module in a data center, I get all data from the data center storage, even if I need the cluster as well. So I found another way to get the cluster through the host by using this code snippet that I whipped:

$vmhosts = $datastore. Host

$cluster = get-view-id (Get-View-Id $vmhosts [0].) Key | Select - Parent property). Parent | Select - the property name

Write-Host $cluster. Name

.. .or $datastore is a view of the data store. This gives me the name of the cluster, although the script works very slow and takes a long time to run. Our environment contains several thousand data storage so you can see why the time of execution of the script is a big concern for me. Here's the complete function to give the context of my question.

===========================================================================================

# Crosses all vCenter and gets the individual data of SAN

Function Get-AllSANData ($vcenter) {}

$WarningPreference = "SilentlyContinue".

SE connect-VIServer $vcenter - ErrorAction SilentlyContinue - ErrorVariable ConnectError. Out-Null

write-host "SAN data extraction of ' $vcenter '... »

write-host "this will take some time, stop looking at me and go do something else... »

# Loop in each datacenter in the vCenter

{ForEach ($datacenter Get-Data Center)

# Create view of data and store the loop through each store data in the cluster

ForEach ($datastore in Get-View - ViewType Datastore SearchRoot - $datacenter.id - filter @{"Summary.Type" ="VMFS"}) {}

$vmhosts = $datastore. # This is a table of all hosts attached to this Volume SAN host

$hostcount = $vmhosts. # Num armies length associated with this Volume of SAN SAN

If ($hostcount - lt 2) {continues} # ignore boot Volumes

$lunsize = $datastore | % {[decimal]: tour ($_.)} (Summary.Capacity/1Go)} # capacity in bytes is converted to GB

$free = $datastore | % {[decimal]: tour ($_.)} (Summary.FreeSpace/1Go)} # free space in bytes is converted to GB

$type = $datastore | %{$_. Summary.Type} # we know already that type will be VMFS but just in case

$majorversion = $datastore | % {$_.Info.Vmfs.MajorVersion} # version major VMFS (5.blah = 5) you get the idea

$cluster = get-view-id (Get-View-Id $vmhosts [0].) Key | Select - Parent property). Parent | Select - the property name

write-host $datacenter. $cluster. Name. $datastore. Name. $lunsize. $free. $type. $majorversion. $hostcount

}

}

Disconnect-VIServer $vcenter - force - confirm: $false | Out-Null

write-host "Done with" $vcenter

}

===========================================================================================

I found a solution for a long time. Thank you for following it upwards. That's what I ended up doing:

# Crosses all vCenter and gets the individual data of SAN

Function Get-AllSANData($vcenter, $fileName, $MyDirectory) {}

# Loop in each data center in the vCenter - MoRef corresponds to the ID

ForEach ($datacenter in Get-View - ViewType Datacenter |) Name of the property, select - MoRef) {}

# Loop in each Cluster in the data center

ForEach ($cluster in Get-view ViewType - ClusterComputeResource - SearchRoot $datacenter. MoRef | Name of the property, select - Datastore) {}

# Create view of data and store the loop through each store data in the cluster

ForEach ($datastore in $cluster. Data store) {}

$ds = get - views - Id $datastore | Select - property name, host, summary, Info # create the data store with the current Cluster data store

$hostcount = $ds. Host.Length # Num of the armed forces associated with this Volume of SAN

If ($hostcount - lt 2) {continues} # ignore boot Volumes

$type = $ds | %{$_. Summary.Type} # the type must be VMFS, not interesting in SIN or any other type

# Don't filter for VDT Recons - need storage NFS so

If ($type - don't "VMFS") {continue}

$lunsize = $ds | % {[decimal]: tour ($_.)} (Summary.Capacity/1Go)} # capacity in bytes is converted to GB

$free = $ds | % {[decimal]: tour ($_.)} (Summary.FreeSpace/1Go)} # free space in bytes is converted to GB

$uncommitted = $ds | % {[decimal]: tour ($_.)} (Summary.Uncommitted/1Go)} # storage uncommitted in bytes is converted to GB

$provisioned = ($lunsize - $free + $uncommitted)

$majorversion = $ds | % {$_.Info.Vmfs.MajorVersion} # version major VMFS (5.blah = 5) you get the idea

$upperVC = $vcenter. ToString(). ToUpper()

$upperCL = $cluster. Name (). ToUpper()

$upperDS = $ds. Name (). ToUpper()

write-host $datacenter. Name. $upperCL. $upperDS. $lunsize. $provisioned. $free. $type. $majorversion. $hostcount

# Data to CSV output (file is located in the same directory that the script is running from)

$record = $datacenter. "Name +", "+ $upperCL +", "+ $upperDS +", "+ $lunsize +", "+ $provisionné +", "+ $+ free ', ' + $+ type", "+ $majorversion +", "+ $hostcount

$record | Out-file - add $MyDirectory\SANpulls\$ fileName-encoding ASCII

  • [SRM 4.1] Dealing with local data warehouses?

    Hello

    I'm currently loaded with SRM 4.1 installation on our companys vsphere and while I did this before that I have never worked with VM on local data warehouses. There are three additional centers for both, I'll be tipping. These three data centers all run on Cisco UCS 210 M2 servers spread across two data stores. The virtual machine can be found on the second partition of the UCS VMFS.

    I don't know why it was created this way that I wasn't there when it was put into service (it seems strange, though, as they have a shedload of space on the Symmetrix). So I ask really (a person with a more experienced eye), what are the options for local data warehouses with MRS? I'm guessing limited to no support... so think I might watch svMotion

    Thanks for any advice.

    Hello

    With MRS. 4.1, the only option is based on the Bay of replication, i.e. SRM is only able to protect virtual machines residing on storage arrays supported with replication configured between them. SRM itself does not perform the replication. SRM is able to display your replica equipment and perform a few operations on the Bay of storage through the SRA (storage replication adapter) - software written by the storage provider.

    Yes, unless you use a storage device which can present these local data warehouses such as those shared and replicate them on the (and is supported with SRM), you cannot use local data warehouses. I have a limited knowledge of such things, maybe the other guys will be able to help more.

    In SRM 5 extra option has been introduced - vSphere replication, which allows the replication of virtual machines between ESXi hosts. You will need vcenter / SRM and ESXi 5 for this to work.

    I do not understand your configuration. How many centres of data do you have? SRM only supports the scenarios one to one, and many-to-one.

    Michael.

  • Download Data Warehouse

    Hello, I need to use the data warehouse for a project and I would like to ask if there is
    another version (for example, the express edition including the data warehouse) except for the enterprise edition free.
    I installed Express edition, but were not the characteristics of the data warehouse. Can anyone help? Thank you.

    Hello

    So far, I know that you can download the oracle Builder as a Stand Alone software warehouse.

    http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/warehouse/downloads/software/index.html

    But you need the Standard version that you must buy if you want to use the Oracle Warehouse Builder for free (in Standard edition, it is included).

    I hope that it helps :)

    You use literal strings instead of the content for the files. Assuming that the contents of the file is a list with one entry on each line, you need to change your code actually look at the data, for example:

    $oldstores = get-content "C:\powercli\OldDatastore.txt".

    foreach ($path in $currentdatastores.split (";"))) {

    If (-not ($oldstores - contains $path)) {}

    ...

    }

    }

  • New analysis of data warehouses... at the level of the Cluster with PowerCLI 5?

    Hello

    Since vSphere has been provided (I think) the option to open a new analysis of the HBA on every host in the cluster ESXs is available in the GUI if you click with the right button on the cluster, select analyze again to data warehouses.

    I have read several threads from people requesting this option in Powercli but have not found a solution for this.

    When you do Get-Cluster-name | Get-vmhost | Get-vmhoststorage - RescanAllHBA to do this, the new analysis a host once in the cluster.

    Is there a solution for this now in PowerCLI 5.0?

    BR

    Henrik

    As far as I know, there is still no option to launch the new analysis across the cluster in paralel.

  • Browse data using PowerCLI warehouses

    We have a large installation of VMware 5.0 in several data centers, clusters and hosts.  If we remove a VM from the inventory without noticing the datastore he resided on and the need to add it to the inventory, you must go through each data store and browse through each one of them.

    Is there an easier way to search for a virtual machine using PowerCLI or another method?

    Hello, AliSarreshteh-

    Yes, nearby.  Like writing your piece of code get all files with "DES084" at the end of the file name.  Since you want to find all files with "DES084" anywhere in the name, I guess (not only at the end of the file name), you must add an another wildcard to the value of the - include parameter in the statement "dir".  As:

    ...## search for everything that has "DES084" in the namedir -Recurse -Path vmstores:\ -Include *DES084* | select Name,DatastoreFullPath,LastWriteTime | Export-Csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture -Path D:\MyVMDKInfo.csv

  • Using several data stores, cannot migrate the vmx file in a data store

    I am host migration between 3.5 and 4.0, and part of the migration requires me to vmotion data to a single shared LUN data warehouses.  From there on, I import the virtual machine in 4.0 and using the script to migrate the two VM disks at different stores of data below.  The problem I have is that the configuration (vmx) file not migrated and is left on the shared storage LUNS.  Anyone knows how to go beyond this?

    The Script:

    $VMDisk = 'disk 1 '.

    $VMName = 'TestVM '.

    $TargetDS = get-Datastore - VMHost (Get-VMHost-$S.id Id) | Where-Object {$_.} Name - like "PMV"} | "" FreeSpaceMB tri-objet-descending | SELECT name - first of all 1

    $vm = get-View - ViewType VirtualMachine-filter @{"Name" = $VMName}

    foreach ($dev in $vm. Config.Hardware.Device) {if ($dev. DeviceInfo.Label - eq $vmDisk) {$diskId = $dev. Key}}

    $spec = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineRelocateSpec

    $diskspec = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineRelocateSpecDiskLocator

    $diskspec. Data store = (Get-Datastore-name $TargetDS.Name |) Get - View). MoRef

    $diskspec.diskId = $diskId

    $spec. Disk = @($diskspec)

    $task = get-View ($vm. RelocateVM_Task ($spec, "lowpriority"))

    OK, I think I understand your problem now.

    I fear that in the current construction of PowerCLI, the Move-VM cmdlet does not destinations of individual data for each virtual hard disk store.

    With the RelocateVM_Task method, it is possible.

    The following script moves a guest at 3 different data warehouses:

    -the. VMX file for DS2

    -hard disk 1 for DS3

    -hard drive 2 TB DS4

    $vmName = "MyGuest"
    $vmxDS = "DS2"
    $osDS = "DS3"
    $dataDS = "DS4"

    $vm = Get-VM -Name $vmName

    $vm.Extensiondata.Config.Hardware.Device | %{
         if ($_.DeviceInfo.Label -eq "Hard disk 1"){
              $osDiskId = $_.Key
         }
         elseif($_.DeviceInfo.Label -eq "Hard disk 2"){
              $dataDiskId = $_.Key
         }
    }

    $spec = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineRelocateSpec

    $osRelocate = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineRelocateSpecDiskLocator
    $osRelocate.Datastore = (Get-Datastore -Name $osDS).Extensiondata.MoRef
    $osRelocate.diskId = $osDiskId

    $dataRelocate = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineRelocateSpecDiskLocator
    $dataRelocate.Datastore = (Get-Datastore -Name $dataDS).Extensiondata.MoRef
    $dataRelocate.diskId = $dataDiskId

    $spec.Disk = @($osRelocate,$dataRelocate)
    $spec.Datastore = (Get-Datastore -Name $vmxDS).Extensiondata.MoRef
    $spec.Host = $vm.Extensiondata.Summary.Runtime.Host

    $task = Get-View ($vm.Extensiondata.RelocateVM_Task($spec, "lowpriority"))
    while("running","queued" -contains $task.Info.State){
         $task.UpdateViewData("Info")
         sleep 5
    }

    BTW, you can use the cmdlet Set - hard disk to a virtual disk that is specific to a data store.

    But as I understood what is not possible in your environment.

  • Fully connecting directly attached data warehouses in a cluster of ESXi?

    I have deployed two identical 5.1 ESXi hosts (servers Dell PowerEdge r720xd) each to 5,46 with storage to direct connection. They are both currently enrolled in our vCenter Server 5.1 and participate in a HA cluster. Their respective databases are also members of a group of data store.

    Each host is connected to its own data store, but not the other host data store. This effectively disables most of the HA/DTS features, and connection status of host for each data store is marked with a warning for missing connections. We have desire of VM migration and load balancing between the two hosts and the warehouses of data to be as homogeneous and transparent as possible.

    My question is simple: what is the most practical and effective way to establish the necessary connections to reach a State fully connected to hosts and data warehouses?

    Hello

    in this case you need something like a virtual appliance that uses your local storage to make it a shared storage. Your hosts can then access the storage via iSCSI/NFS. At the end of the day, you will have the space of a single node left (CT ~ 5.46), because the device (s) will reflect your data for more security against failure of the host.

    The easiest way would probably be the vSphere Storage Appliance

    But there are also other solutions as a virtual of DataCore and HP StoreVirtual VSA facility.

    The result will in the default batch instead of the one I want (sdbib). Of course when I remove the date it goes into the good batch.

    Solved my problem! Lines added to BatchingBYRecip in fsisys.ini using two different DALs include the DiffDate. If the FDA is not met, the DefaultBatch is used.
