Cannot find the "My Computer" icon; I have icon "Computer" but it is NOT THE SAME as "My Computer"... Help!

I'm looking for the "My Computer" icon. I do not have the icon workstation; I made the different "tasks and tips" to supposedly turn on and I DO HAVE ICON CALLED 'COMPUTER' ON MY DESKTOP.  However, 'COMPUTER' is not equal to ' MY COMPUTER ' on this system.

The 'My Computer', I want TO open a box with the usual File, Edit, View, Favorites, tools, and help under the blue bar containing the words 'My Computer' and the image of the icon in the left corner.   I want to choose 'Tools' that will 'gray out', the 'back' and 'forward' buttons and leaves an icon file with blue-green arrow pointing to the sky, research (with the microscope icon), folders (with the icon files) and a multi-dropdown button in the next line of command icons.  Below, is address, which should show the icon and the words of my computer.  Under the present is called 'Folder Options' box with 3 three topics on the left: tasks system, other places, and details. the first item under details, Workstation should be written in bold black.  On the upper area of the Folder Options, there are 4 four tabs: general, opinion, Types of files and offline files.  In the 'View' tab, I should be able to see the views of folders on top with 2 two buttons (apply to all records and reset all folders) and a list drop down in the bottom; advanced settings one of these subfolders in advanced settings should be: files and folders hidden.  I should be able to select that subfolder and get two 2 options: do not show the hidden files and folders and Show hidden files and folders, I would choose.

The "Computer" icon that appears is called 'Computer' and opens the box with options to organize, System properties, uninstall or change a program, map network drive, and open the Panel control and it shows different drives on the computer, devices, network, and other information.

Can someone tell me PLEASE how to access "My Computer"?  And, if it is a really stupid question, I apologize in advance.  But I've looked everywhere I know to look and I'm not.  Thank you very much.

So the answer to my question is, "Yes, * I * am coming from an older operating system."  (I was wondering if your experience which has been remote or not).

The problem is that many of the features of the file Explorer (it is really what we're talking about here) / appearance changed with Vista / Windows 7/Windows 8/Windows 8.1 in the ~ 13 years since the release of Windows XP you are looking at the example of what it should look like you.  ;-)

The 'my computer' in Windows XP does not exist (as it was in Windows XP.)  The look of crayola disappeared.

Close all open windows 'computer '.

Open a window 'computer '.

Click on 'Tools' (after you press ALT while in 'Computer' and carries it) and choose "Folder Options".

'View' tab there, I suggest you choose the following (Check/select, uncheck all the options not mentioned) under the "Advanced settings..."

  • Always show menus
  • File to display on the photos icon
  • Displays the size of file in folder tips
  • Display the full path in the title bar (Classic theme only)
  • Do not show hidden files, folders or drives
  • Hide the protégés of the files of the operating system (recommended)
  • Windows folders in a separate process of launch
  • See drive letters
  • See the encrypted or NTFS compressed color
  • View the description of pop-up for the folder and desktop items
  • The Wizard (recommended) sharing
  • Select the element type in the view

Once these are the only elements to be activated, click on 'Apply' at the bottom and then click "Apply to folders" to the top of the window and then click 'OK' at the bottom.

The top of the 'Computer' window, choose 'View' and see if there is a check mark next to the "Status bar" in the menu drop-down selection.  If it is, leave it alone (press ESC on your keyboard) if it is not one, click it.  The next time you select the 'View' menu, there should be a checkmark next to the "status bar".

Read this.  It will help you to get used to the new way (beyond XP) use 'File Explorer' ('computer')...
