Cannot free up disk space on drive c.

Hello

I have an older version of Windows XP on my computer and despite the use of the function of disk cleanup, add/remove programs functions and Windows components, so to try to defragment the computer, I receive the message that the computer is low disk space.  I took all the programs that I don't use and attempted to take off from documents unnecessary, games, etc., as well, but when I check the C: drive on the 'Properties' tab, it shows almost the entire hard drive used.  I do not know what but because I even do not play a lot of games on it, have images or music programs and I can't understand what is on the hard drive of the computer.  If it of the adware or spyware, I can not say because when I tried to install an adware/spyware detector, he cannot do that because there is not enough disk space!  Obviously, something takes all the space, but how I tell me what it is and more important still, how do I get my computer?  Thank you.

I have this problem as well, and the question is larger than what these people are saying. If you open the folder and ctrl + a to select all, then go to properties, it will show that the contents of the folder is only about 5 or 6 concerts, 7 on it. the other 60 + concerts which takes the file are mysteriously non-existent. I have no idea what is causing this problem, but I can promise you that no amount of deletion it will manage because the memory is not be overtaken by what is actually stored on your computer.

It sounds like you're looking in a directory (folder) that includes hidden files and hidden folders.  What is the name of the "folder" you are watching?

While you have the mystery open in Windows Explorer, click Tools > Folder Options.  Select the view tab.  Scroll down and select the option "Show the hidden files and folders" and uncheck the box (a little further down) to "Hide protected operating system files."  Click OK.

The "disappeared" 60 GB now appears?

See http://www.edbott.com/weblog/2005/05/tip-of-the-day-show-hidden-files-with-a-simple-script/

I suggest that you cancel the above changes when you are finished.

If you still can't find the missing stuff, download and run JDiskReport.  This will show you what takes up space on your hard drive.

    Hello

I wouldn't say that allows you to delete any system files that are associated with Windows. You can use Disk Cleanup tool to safely remove files that are not required by windows.

    > but when I go into the files deleat it says there is no files...

Looks like you're tailking on drive D:, your recovery disk. Yes?

(If you went ot C: drive tries to delete files, you wiould NOT have received message "here ya no files".)

Your recovery partition D is implemented by the manufacturer of your computer in the event of serious problems in your system.
You use it to restore your system.

You are NOT supposed to touch it... not for nothing is add or remove anything from him.

Have you been using the D drive and for scheduled backups of file, or use it to store other programs and files?
If this is the case, you call the manufacturer of the computer, tell them the situation...

    1. ask for a set of recovery DVD (if you have not done a game initially). It is used to re - install Vista from it in case of system crash.
    2. ask how to remove backup files or elements that are NOT supposed to be there.
They created the recovery partition, they know how to take care of it.
Let them teach how you to.

  • To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This can take up to a few minutes.

    Every few minutes the message:

"To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages.  This can take up to a few minutes. »

It is irrelevant for two reasons:

    (1) I do not use Outlook Express and have therefore no messages to be compacted.

    (2) I have not free disk space as I am currently using only five percent of the very large disks.

Is could someone please tell me how I get rid of this very irritating message.

Try to reset the compact County in the registry:

    1. Start the registry editor.
    2. Open this key:

      \Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\ {identity}

where the identity is a string of letters, numbers, and dashes.

    3. The value of Compact Check Count to 0.
    4. Close the registry editor.

For more information, see why you should let Outlook Express Compact Messages when it asks you .

WARNING: Incorrectly editing the registry can damage your system and prevent Windows to start. Before you do, back up your important data, make a restore point and make sure that you know how to repair a damaged system. Boulder computer Maven

  • Get the message "To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages" - No. OE installed

From the beginning of this week, I get a pop-up message stating "To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages".  This happens when that I start.  The fact is; I do not use Outlook Express or have installed. I checked the Windows components that are installed and checked that.  Once again; He started at the beginning of this week.  There are a few updates that was installed earlier this week also.  No other software has been added.  I use Outlook 2003 and have for years.  Will continue to cancel this message, I would appreciate it if someone could shed some light on how to prevent this message from poping up upward.

Of course, it has something to with Windows Search as you suggest.
I open the Indexing Options and found that Outlook Express was listed and checked in an indexed location.
I took the case off Outlook Express but he left on my Outlook 2003.
    The settings saved and restarted.
The message poped always upward, but I noticed one thing - search index icon does not appear in the taskbar until I actually recognized the message by choosing .  I waited about a minute and a half before that I did to make sure my boot is complete.  Soon I clicked on cancel search index icon appeared on the system tray.

When I try to backup Quicken, I received the error: cannot access the disk in the drive E:, please make sure that the drive is ready and the disk is not write protected.  My last backup of Quicken was 16/07/2010.  I don't know why I can't back up now.  Is there a way to fix this?

Why not save to a folder on your hard drive and burn them to a CD - R from there? I can't tell from the little you wrote if the problem is with Quicken (not work or you have incorrectly backup location) or with your CD - RW drive. How about more details to work with? Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.
.NET framework is a software framework that is necessary for the proper functioning of the computer. Many programs rely, to not uninstall them.
About Adobe Acrobat Reader, it is a type of file opening/handling application portable document format (PDF). If you feel you don't need a reader/visualization of PDF software, you can uninstall it.
On the subject of HP Customer Participation Program 9.0, you can contact HP support for help.
In addition, you can try the following to free disk space:
Go to computer-> select C:\ drive-> click on-> click Properties. On the general tab, click Disk Cleanup. Open Disk Cleanup dialog box, click Ok. This will delete all the unwanted files. Do this for each hard drive partition. In addition, click Windows key + r Run dialog opens. type %temp% , and then press Ok. • Including disk space in drive C

Hi, I have 148GB hard drive which has a car - 141 C and a D drive - 7.71 GB partitioned by HP. towards the end I was running low disk space. I did a disk cleanup and defragmentation on a regular basis. I checked the size of each folder on drive C, and then the total space and it does not match.

That's what I got after checking the space on individual files:

Go 122,18 includes Doc & settings, program files, and any other folder in the C drive (no hidden files - the option is disabled in my computer > tools)

18,82 GB is therefore reported missing.

I put t see all other files and folders in the C drive, temporary files, cookies are deleted and the Recycle Bin is empty.

D I really appreciate your help!

Over the years, patch from Windows Update installers can take a lot of hard drive space. System Restore also feeds a small piece of space. Try to clean the system restore files by clicking on the 'More Options' tab in disk cleanup. Go down and clean the system restore.

CCleaner may clean old hotfix files. You can download it for free and discover its settings, and HERE I've used for years on many machines.
