  As much as I know, only Windows Update cannot be run in safe mode. That being said, I saw where install several updates may conflict with each other. Try to disable all updates installation and install the updates failed one at a time.

  Hello. I use Windows vista basic and I've updated my com on a regular basis. However, there is a particular update, I'm unable to install KB955430, which release date is 05/15/09.   This is a known, problem if you install this update through Windows Update, you receive the 800F082F error.

  Cannot install this update with the other updates. Therefore, if you have already installed other updates without rebooting, and then you try to install this update, you may receive error 800F082F. To resolve this issue, restart your computer, and then install this update again.

  I feel your pain, but you can't do much. This is a known issue with AppWorld during the passage of the free paid, thats why this option is no longer available for providers.

  The only way to mitigate the damage, push a paid upgrade, say version 1.1. Make sure that the upgrade price paid matches the original price of app, otherwise it would be confusing to users.

  Advantages of such an approach:

  -Users who want to pay will be able to download the upgrade, you get the money

  Disadvantages:

  -You will get a lot of negative comments from users who have as free version

  -Those who have already purchased as paid app will have to pay to upgrade too
