Cannot install, put up-to-date "update is not applicable to your computer.

Original title: I can't open the help that was created in Windows Help format (WinHlp32.exe)

Hello

I tried to open a help file to an old program on a clean install of Windows 8 Pro PC.
I followed the link:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/917607#top
Downloaded:
Windows8-RT-KB917607-x 86.msu
Respond to 'run '.
Installation fails:
Windows Update Standalone install
The update is not applicable to your computer
Any help appreciated
Martin

Apparently this fix only works if your language is set to us English. It failed on my own with the British English language. I replaced the file c:\windows\winhlp32.exe with this forum post and all is well. I found it easier to use the great unlocker utility to rename the existing version.

    Hello

-What is the exact error that you receive when trying to install updates?
-You are aware of any changes made on the computer before this problem?

Method 1: I suggest trying to install the patch and also to try the steps mentioned in step 2 in the " WORKAROUND " section from the link mentioned below to check if the number perissts.
Restore description of the backup of Windows NT to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

    Method 2: Clean Boot Mode
I suggest to keep the computer in clean boot mode and try to install the updates then check if the problem persists.
A clean boot to check if startup item or services to third-party application is causing this issue.

  • Photoshop CS5 update (cannot install 12.0.4 - error: update does not apply)

Hello - I am new to this forum, so please forgive me if my question is somehow out of line.  I need to update Adobe Photoshop CS5.  Bought for the use of the company in 2011 (purchased in DVD format).  I recently installed on a new computer (iMac El Captain 10.11.1 running).  I downloaded Adobe Photoshop 12.0.4 updated for Adobe Photoshop CS5, but when I run it, I get error "update is not applicable."  Impossible to contact customer service - seems the forums are my only hope.   Thank you.

    Hi Serottacsi,

Creative suite Adobe CS 5 is a very old software and the operating system you are using is the most recent, so there may be compatibility issues that adobe has not tested these applications on newer operating systems.

However, you can try download & install the update for Adobe Photoshop CS 5 from the following link:

    Help

    Hello
    1. Are not able to perform you reinstall?
    2. A reinstall succsesfull?
    3. Are not able to launch the start of the disc to perform you reinstall?
    Method 1:
You can read the following article and check if it solves the problem:
Windows Update crashes when the download or installation of updates
    Note:
You can back up data to an external hard drive and no CD. It is essential to back up data even if you do an upgrade on the spot.

    Reference:

    Back up your files

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/back-up-your-files

    Method 2:

You can perform a clean boot.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to solve the problem by running the clean boot in Windows Vista:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: when you are finished troubleshooting, work step 7: to reset the computer as usual.

    Method 3:

Temporarily disable the software antivirus (and any other security software) and firewall on the computer as a test and check if this solves the problem.

    Disable the anti-virus software

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/change-which-programs-Windows-uses-by-default

    Enable or disable Windows Firewall

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

    Caution:

Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 4:

Check the disc and see if it helps.

    Check a drive for errors

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/check-your-hard-disk-for-errors

Chkdsk WARNING: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

    Method 5:
Note the number of the Base of knowledge (KB) then go to the Microsoft Download Center and enter the number (KB) Knowledge Base Search updates and download to install them manually.

    Microsoft Download Center

    I hope this helps!
