Cannot install Vista OEM after replacement of equipment

My Dell with Vista system crashed. The motherboard and HARD drive were fried... I have a system that is compatible with Vista and I installed, but cannot activate Vista, with the same vista that was on my dell... How can I get the vista high and active... The system has set for about 6 months.

It is not possible to activate it.

"As far as I know it is not OEM".

Not sure EXACTLY what kind of license it is.

"About 3 months after using the HARD drive and motherboard fried."

You cannot use programs to find the key to the race and active system.

"and the Vista disc has no number on the handle or the case...." »

You don't have a product key.

We cannot help you.

See you soon.

  • Satellite L300 - cannot install Microsoft updates after replacing HARD drive

I am repairing a Satellite L300, which had a dead HARD drive. I replaced death 160 GB of HDD with a 500 GB WD, then used the recovery disks to install Windows Vista SP1 at the exit of the State of the box.

Now, Windows update does not work, won't install autonomous not of Vista SP2 I downloaded, MS Security Essentials moved there also.
Then I borrowed a 160 GB of work and went through the same process and everything works fine.

To make it work with a 160 GB HARD drive, but not a 500 GB HARD drive. Why?

    > ... Standalone Vista SP2 I downloaded will not be installed
Usually after installing recovery image, you have just to connect laptop to internet and after a short period of time, you will get messages about available Windows updates. Just install the offered updates process automatic Waterer and install important updates only.

Let the system to install all the updates and don t force the installation of some own downloaded stuff.
Last month I've updated HARD drive (320 GB I think) and installed Win7 on friends L300 and I didn't noticed any problem here.

  • Impossible to reactivate XP Pro OEM after replaced motherboard

As the title says, I'm unable to reactivate a copy of XP Pro (OEM) after replacing a dead motherboard. I did have problems in the past when replacing hard drives.  I reinstalled the operating system three times in the last 24 hours, does not. OEM drives are SP2.  Download and install SP3 and IE8.

I wonder not to enter the product key on installation/set upwards (although I seem to think that I was the first time and ignored). There is no option to validate through start programs etc because there is no such thing as the "Activate windows" option.  The validation simply said the key online tool is not valid and directs me to a page to buy Windows 7. I tried the phone... free license key number by selecting personal user... but after the long string of numbers, the 'voice' says that the key is not valid. [I'm not sure if it is relevant, but in the part of this page Web where it says change key if the instructions (or words to that effect)... the key already indicated in the boxes is not the same as the one I have.] Is it because it's what they would say to change it too or what MS thinks that my key is already?]. The options trying to activate via the warning in the system tray do not help either.

I think at present to remove the hard drive, which is the one that came with the pc and already partitioned if not used (I replaced it with a larger immediately after you have configured the pc), delete partitions and reformat before you try to reinstall and activate again... but I was wondering if it is simpler and less time-consuming option.

    Any help is appreciated.

Update (a few hours after the original post): I read a few topics where it is explained how to talk to an operator.  I'll try later today that before anything else.  However, all the other advice always welcome.

Replacing the motherboard outside the warranty terms invalidates an OEM license.

You will need to purchase a new license for Windows - and it will take a full commercial license.

  • Satellite L350 - cannot install Vista and how can I backup my data?

    Hi all

I have a Satellite L350 and recently I installed Vista Home Premium in another language (the OEM Vista was in English) in the hope I could activate it with the OEM key, but I did not.

When I tried to re - install the Vista OEM of WinRE I realized I can't access it, and then I got a "brilliant" idea that will format the C partition with Acronis Disk Director he could boot to WinRE. There can be no.

Fortunately, I have burned before recovery disks. The only problem is that the whole HARD disc recovery disc formats and I have data on the second partition that I would like to recover.

I tried to install Vista retail again to save the data of the second partition (Yes, I'm a fool, I did not before) but it stops after the first reboot. I get a black screen with an underscore will blink.

I really need that data, please help!

    Hello!

I can tell you why you can t install a version of Vista with product key. It's pretty easy because the button on the lower side on the laptop belongs to the preinstalled OEM version and t can be used by a commercial version.

However, I think the best way to back up your data would be that you put the HARD drive in an external HARD drive enclosure, and then you can back up your data on another PC or laptop.
These cases of disc HARD external are cheap but very useful.

  • Satellite P200D - cannot install Vista SP1

I tried times serval update to Service Pack 1 of Vista. After that time of serval downloads, laptop installs Service Pack 1. After that serval hours windows update gives an answer that update is not possible with a message that is not explained by Windows.

What is the problem with the update?

    Hello

If you cannot update the SP1 then your Vista is confused upward or SP1 is already installed.

How have you tried to update the SP1? Have you downloaded it from the MS page made one then you perform the update or have you used the Windows Update option in the Panel?

In your case, I recommend to check first if SP1 is installed.
If it was not installed, then rub the BONE using the free CCLeaner tool.

If you want to update the SP1 version, and then try again.

If that does not help then retrieve the operating system using the Toshiba drive and then try to upgrade Vista to the last State.

    Good bye

  • Satellite L300 PSLB0E - cannot install Vista and Win XP

    Hello

    I have a L300, model number PSLB0E sat. \
It was originally loaded with vista home premium, but it starts now not at all.
I made a disc of vista Home premium and the number to go with it, but it gets as far as "windows installation" but then it stops.

I tried to new hard drive, same loading XP pro not working!
I think it's Bios, but after the download from Toshiba on this PC and transfer it to a memory stick, my laptop can't see it?

Please can someone point me in the right direction?

A big thank you in advance Paul

    Hi mate

Please check in the BIOS if the disc is visible.
If so, then set compatible SATA to AHCI mode and then try to boot from the Vista or Win XP disc.

But if the HARD drive is not visible in the BIOS then it would mean that the HARD drive is dead and so you cannot install the operating system.

    Check it!

How have you tried to install vista on the laptop?
Have you tried to switch the MCE to Vista or were you running the new clean install of Vista?

In my opinion, you must perform a clean installation. Don t updated the existing MCE of Vista.

  • Install Vista OEM giving no end of trouble

So, I have two computers right now, and I am trying to install the version of my Vista OEM on the first computer.

The first computer I bought from dell on 3 or 4 years back, and he came up with an OEM version of windows vista and a disc re - install. It's the computer, on that I try to install Vista, but that's the problem. This computer has 4 SATA ports, but 3 of them are broken, so I can connect only 1 SATA, my CD-ROM drive or HARD drive device. In addition to this, I can't boot from a USB device on this computer, so I can't install the operating system on the hard drive of this computer using this motherboad of computers.

So I thought ok, I'lll just use my other computer to install the operating system. So I plugged my HDD from my work computer and installed the OEM of Vista version on the hard drive, it starts on this computer. I took the hard drive and put it back in the 1 sata port on my other computer to work, and I get a BSOD... I read that the OEM of Vista version cannot synchronize a motherboad, but this is ridiculous. I bought vista for this computer, I ran vista on this computer for 4 years now, until I temporarily used this drive in my other computer. Now, I am very disappointed to find that I can't install vista on the computer vista was originally bought for...

[b] for a long time, has not read [/ b]

I have a product key to do this, so I wonder if there is a legal Vista download, that I can install on my HARD drive using a computer, then put the HDD on another computer and activate with my code product, without getting a blue screen of the dead...

I tried everything, short of resorting to piratebay, which is looking very tempting right now.

  • Cannot install Vista Business on Portege M400 - IDE issues

Hi guys... I am looking for your help.

I downloaded all the new Vista drivers avaiable from Toshiba in support of the new installation of Vista business on my old Portege M400, that came preloaded with a version of XP Tablet and kept their loan on a CD.

I also upgraded the version of the ACPI BIOS to the latest available 3.80.

I insert the first CD of Vista professional and do a boot. (I also have a n upgrade Vista Business CD but I want to do a clean install).
I go past the first steps and choose Install.
I am faced with an error message "no disk has been found. "Click on load a driver to provide a device for installing mass storage.

Looks like Vista is not able to see the IDE drive to the edge and it's a driver problem.

I touched the "Rescan" button available on the windows installation and another message appears: "no device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct driver, and then click OK. »

Currently loaded on the XP: currently loaded poster IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers like Device Manager: "Intel (R) 82801 G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers and primary IDE channel."

Hard drives shown are: Toshiba RAID SCSI Disk Device LD0

Pls tell, what new drivers since available downloads of drivers Vista for my model 400 ML PPM40E, should I choose here for my Vista installation recognizes the disk available?

    Hello

It is very easy to solve this problem.
If you would look on the page of the European driver Toshiba (Portege M400 section), then you will notice that a RAID driver is available for this model of laptop.

Impossible to install Vista because it cannot find the HARD drive due to lack of RAID driver!

You must install the RAID driver first and then you can proceed with the installation of Vista.
As far as I know the Vista installation accepting the USB flash key you can use this key to include the RAID driver.

Hope I could give some useful advice.

    Cheers mate

  • Qosmio G50 - 10J - cannot install Vista Ultimate again

    Hello

I just bought a G50 - 10J with Vista Home Premium (German) installed. I tried to install Vista Ultimate Edition (in English) and formatted the C: drive (where vista was preinstalled); When installing, it freezes at the part "Complete Installation" and after waiting an hour, black screen appears and nothing changes (I tried 3 times and still had the same problem).

Also unfortunately I don't have the recovery CD.
Could someone please help me load Vista again?

New portable Toshiba does not come with recovery DVD media and the recovery image is saved on the HARD drive. This means that the laptop owner must create recovery media only.
Toshiba has designed a little reminder of recovery Toshiba.

If you skipped it didn't create recovery DVDs before using the Microsoft DVD facilities you have a problem now. All you can do is to order a new copy. You can do so under the https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • Cannot install vista updated or the updates of the application.

I can't install all updates for vista and some applications. I was not able to install updates for about a year and I'm behind about 50 of them!  Here's what happens: I can select a (generally smaller) update download it and at what stage him "create restore point" appears nothing DON'T is PAST!  After 15 to 20 minutes, I'll try to close and the blue/green screen informs you that installing update 1 of 1.  The system hangs in this State for hours - if I leave - and usually pull the plug.  I disabled Norton antivirus, before and get the same result!  It's nerve racking.  Oh yes, I can't remove programs either!  I WAS able to install SP2.

    Hi Bill,

No. , the "discussions" over attempts to solve the problem and I was excited about some of the suggestions of Ryan t...  The problem persists and I designed a word document to post on the site of s 'Windows BBS"asking for their HELP.   If I can get a consensus, this is what I intend to do.  The D partition on my machine is a picture of the machine "birth" @ gateway about 2.5 years ago.  Once I trust that I have my data backed up and all the DVD application on-site I'll reformat the C with D, operation of the gateway info.  Once I did this, I intend to install Win 7 and put Vista out of its misery!  I intend to install the 64 bit version of 7 and use the C partition for the operating system.  I understand that this is possible and should reduce to naught the tedious task of reinstalling the applications and data if a cleaning are always required again!

Also, I have a second physical hard disk with partitions E F & containing my temp folder, data and photos.  As side note, I paid MSFT $60 a year ago, and their conclusion was re - install Vista - or punt if all else fails.   NOT THE ANSWER I WAS LOOKING FOR!

Don't know when I will be able to jump through all these hoops and obstacles, but will post my 'experience' here!

Thank you for your question and now know I'm NOT the only victim.    OH YES, have you TRIED SUGGESTIONS of RYAN T? THEY CAN WORK FOR YOU!
