Cannot install Vista Business on Portege M400 - IDE issues

Hi guys... I am looking for your help.

I downloaded all the new Vista drivers avaiable from Toshiba in support of the new installation of Vista business on my old Portege M400, that came preloaded with a version of XP Tablet and kept their loan on a CD.

I also upgraded the version of the ACPI BIOS to the latest available 3.80.

I insert the first CD of Vista professional and do a boot. (I also have a n upgrade Vista Business CD but I want to do a clean install).
I go past the first steps and choose Install.
I am faced with an error message "no disk has been found. "Click on load a driver to provide a device for installing mass storage.

Looks like Vista is not able to see the IDE drive to the edge and it's a driver problem.

I touched the "Rescan" button available on the windows installation and another message appears: "no device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct driver, and then click OK. »

Currently loaded on the XP: currently loaded poster IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers like Device Manager: "Intel (R) 82801 G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers and primary IDE channel."

Hard drives shown are: Toshiba RAID SCSI Disk Device LD0

Pls tell, what new drivers since available downloads of drivers Vista for my model 400 ML PPM40E, should I choose here for my Vista installation recognizes the disk available?

Hello

It is very easy to solve this problem.
If you would look on the page of the European driver Toshiba (Portege M400 section), then you will notice that a RAID driver is available for this model of laptop.

Impossible to install Vista because it cannot find the HARD drive due to lack of RAID driver!

You must install the RAID driver first and then you can proceed with the installation of Vista.
As far as I know the Vista installation accepting the USB flash key you can use this key to include the RAID driver.

Hope I could give some useful advice.

Cheers mate

  • Shutdown in Vista with a Portege M400 problems

    Hello!

I have a problem with my Toshiba Portege M400 (do not know if it is a matter for the Council of vista or portege support plate, anyway). I installed Vista Express Upgrade a few months ago and everything worked fine for a while.
But over the last 4 weeks, my laptop seems to have a problem when stopping down. No matter if she's just hibernates or shuts down completely, the computer automatically turns itself after being off for about 5 seconds.
I have to use the switch to turn it off again (and then it stays off). Any ideas? I haven't changed anything and it could be a hardware problem, but my guess is that it has something to do with Vista ;)

    Thank you

    Hello

installed some software or tools/applications/updates? Sometimes, a small update can disrupt the entire system and preventing it from functioning. So, just check what has been installed and it may be useful to install the new bios, maybe update all drivers etc... Make sure that everthing is real and up to date.

The name of this site has nothing to do with a version of Vista 64-bit.

It's just the name of the Web site

And read this; It's the Standard way, that it's done.

You will need to know whether or not SP1 preinstalled.

Looking for a difference in numbers/Service Pack levels.

If Service Packs came pre-installed on the operating system, there is no way to uninstall them.
You will need to borrow a disk for a later version that includes the missing Service Pack.

On your installed operating system Service Pack level cannot be greater than what is on the disk to upgrade.

Click Start > right click on computer > properties > system > it will tell you which SP you have install.

  • Satellite L350 - cannot install Vista and how can I backup my data?

    Hi all

I have a Satellite L350 and recently I installed Vista Home Premium in another language (the OEM Vista was in English) in the hope I could activate it with the OEM key, but I did not.

When I tried to re - install the Vista OEM of WinRE I realized I can't access it, and then I got a "brilliant" idea that will format the C partition with Acronis Disk Director he could boot to WinRE. There can be no.

Fortunately, I have burned before recovery disks. The only problem is that the whole HARD disc recovery disc formats and I have data on the second partition that I would like to recover.

I tried to install Vista retail again to save the data of the second partition (Yes, I'm a fool, I did not before) but it stops after the first reboot. I get a black screen with an underscore will blink.

I really need that data, please help!

    Hello!

I can tell you why you can t install a version of Vista with product key. It's pretty easy because the button on the lower side on the laptop belongs to the preinstalled OEM version and t can be used by a commercial version.

However, I think the best way to back up your data would be that you put the HARD drive in an external HARD drive enclosure, and then you can back up your data on another PC or laptop.
These cases of disc HARD external are cheap but very useful.

    Good bye

It was originally loaded with vista home premium, but it starts now not at all.
I made a disc of vista Home premium and the number to go with it, but it gets as far as "windows installation" but then it stops.

I tried to new hard drive, same loading XP pro not working!
I think it's Bios, but after the download from Toshiba on this PC and transfer it to a memory stick, my laptop can't see it?

Please can someone point me in the right direction?

A big thank you in advance Paul

    Hi mate

Please check in the BIOS if the disc is visible.
If so, then set compatible SATA to AHCI mode and then try to boot from the Vista or Win XP disc.

But if the HARD drive is not visible in the BIOS then it would mean that the HARD drive is dead and so you cannot install the operating system.

    Check it!

Equium A100-147 (Windows MCE) bought compatible Vista and bought my promised copy of Vista... used Toshiba step by step DVD ROM upgrade and also updated the Bios.

Tried to load Vista Home Premium and after going through all the steps, it came with this message...

How should I proceed and what is useful to load Vista.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello

How have you tried to install vista on the laptop?
Have you tried to switch the MCE to Vista or were you running the new clean install of Vista?

In my opinion, you must perform a clean installation. Don t updated the existing MCE of Vista.
In such cases, you can join different installation problems

If you are an owner of an original MS windows XP CD try to run the console of your windows XP CD recovery.
Demarrer start from the CD at startup, and then press R to access the recovery console after loading the driver.

In the recovery console, typefixbootand then restart your laptop.
Then insert your Vista installation and restart.

    This should solve your problem.

  • Cannot install Vista SP2

Anyone know how I can solve this little problem?

Start - computer - properties shows Windows Vista Business SP1

If I use the service of update, it is said that new updates are available = SP2. When I click on install, I get a successful installation response immediately. It is followed by a new available updates message = SP2. I think 'installing' SP2 about 8 times.

If I try to use download 348 MB to install SP2, I get the message that SP1 must be installed first.

Executes the download of 434MB for said SP1 SP1 is already installed

    Hi jdmhimself,

As we have already all possible measures that could have solved the problem. The only option on the left here is to move forward with the new installation of the operating system.

  • Cannot install vista - blue stripes

Hello I got a problem with my old vista, a few days ago, that it crashed with blue stripes everywhere. I think that hardrive may have been overheated and died... not sure. In any case, it is my problem and what I did about this.

Vista starts with blue stripes on the screen shows the logo with the loading bar it goes black for 10 sec and then it crashes. I started by reinstaling the OS from the hard disk, which could be unwise. Because when I restart the installation does not start before it crashes again. I tried to run the install in safe mode, but it cannot install in safe mode either. Then I tried to start that installation of vista from a cd still does not... in safe mode or in normal mode. I'm not sure what to do, is there something I can do or is it time to buy a new computer?

And if I do, he's smart get a new computer now? Maybe there are some new super computers beyond the next corner?

  • Cannot install Vista

I'm trying to fix the computer from a friend who crashed. She had installed XP but got a virus or something and the computer crashed. She asked me to install Vista instead of XP this time and got a copy. When I try to install the new OS, boot from the CD, I get a black screen that says that it is impossible to read the disc. Is it because I am trying to install a different version? Could I hurt something else?

First, go to the site of the manufacturer of your computer, and check to see if your model computer has Vista drivers available for him...

If it isn't, I'd forget the idea of installing Vista.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

  • Cannot install Vista SP1, error code "WindowsUpdate_80004004" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

Summary: I have bad installation of Vista SP1 and would be grateful for any advice, see details below.

    B A C K G R O U N D:

I am running Vista Home Premium (32-bit version) and I need to upgrade Adobe create Suite 3 (CS3) to CS4. The problem comes from the fact that CS4 requires Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) and I'm unable to install SP1.

I really, really want to avoid storing new factory setting and re-install Vista... So, I would be very grateful if there is someone out there who could offer some advice to help me correct my current system with SP1, allowing installation both need the software Adobe CS4. Someone has an idea of what I might try next?

    E R R O R D E S C R I P T I O N:

After trying to install the Vista SP1, I get the following under Windows Update error code: "WindowsUpdate_80004004" "WindowsUpdate_dt000" Leading to this following error occurs:

    1. SP1 is installed and Vista claims that it is correctly installed (it takes a few hours...)
    2. Computer is restarted and 3 updates are applied to the system. The first of these takes forever and housing is 98% completion for a few hours, not a sign of healty I guess...
    3. Computer is then restarted again (or maybe it goes directly from 2) 3) without a re-boot inbetween?) and now I am facing a window called "Start up repair" telling me "your computer is unable to boot"... here I just have to click Next and the computer now spends in the order of 45 minutes to fix the system. When it's done, Vista starts but without SP1 and Windows journal showing the unsuccessful attempt to install KB936330 entry more an upgrade.

    3. I also downloaded a Vista recovery disk and booted from the recovery disc. In this mode, I tried to repair Vista, but no error was found.

I tried to install the SP1 with these configurations, all attempts to exactly the same error as described in detail above:

    • update of the "normal route" via automatic windows standalone
    • Downloaded the stand-alone SP1: unsuccessful (I read somewhere that has helped other users...)
    • disabled wifi: unsuccessful (I read somewhere that has helped other users...)
    • disable the antivirus and Firewall: unsuccessful

  • Dial-up networking cannot connect Vista Business

    Hello

I'm unable to connect to a switch with Vista Business SP1 network, from a laptop computer HP6910p.

    Summary of the problem:

    • I create the dial-up networking connection via "connect to".
    • I select Connect to dial up, go into the details of authentication etc and click OK
    • The DUN system displays a bar of status with «Modems connection...» »
    • The DUN system never gets beyond that point. The modem never made up, and eventually it times out.
    • If I choose the "repair" option, Vista reports that there is no problem with dial-up networking

    Attempted fixes:

I tried just about everything short of reinstalling Vista (not an option unfortunately), so why I post here

    • Have uninstalled and reinstalled the modem several times.  The modem is listed in the Device Manager and reacts appropriately when he is questioned
    • HP have replaced the modem
    • Have uninstalled all the programs I thought could potentially cause some kind of conflict with DUN, including Nokia PC Suite (install phone as a BT modem), Cisco VPN client.
    • You disable the "wait tone before dialing."
    • Have you tried to tone and pulse dialing
    • Have you tried several lines in different locations, after checking that they have worked with another computer

Here's the most important thing, though:

    • I extracted xp hyperterminal and running towards him to diagnose the hardware problem.
    • HyperTerminal is able to deal with success a connection!
    • When I tested it with hyperterminal works as expected - create the connection, entry number, dial. The modem comes on, I hear it dial and the call connects.
      • That's why I'm leads that the problem is with vista not the hardware.
      • Could there be a problem with how to Vista DUN trying to drive the modem?

In my many searches on the web for a solution, I found another person who seems to have a similar problem, but unfortunately no one responded to their question.

    Help, please!

    Thank you

    G.

I have answered my own question, after days trying to solve it on and outside.

Somehow 'calls routed through the operator or manual numbering' had been enabled for dial-up.

    To turn it off,

    1. Open "network connections
    2. Select the dial-up connection, press the ALT key and click on the Advanced menu, and then click operator-assisted dialing. (If the assisted dialing is enabled, with assistance of the operator dialing on the Advanced menu is selected.)

I hope this helps someone else in the future!

    G.
