Cannot install WinXPx64 SP2 or SP3 Service Packs
For the person who provided the answer to the question of the subject your statement gave the answer, yes it is XP Pro x 64 and there was no reference to Titnium, my screen is identical to the image you provided. I apologize for this method to answer you, but the links at bottom of answer pages take me nowhere and try to make a response on a Microsoft Community e-mail is unnecessary. What should I do now?
Now that we know that you have XP Pro 64 - bit Edition, here is the link to the Service Pack 2 to your version:
http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=17791
The links you have without a doubt are for the 32-bit version of Windows XP (if you copy the links into your next reply, we can confirm that for you). That is why they will not install. There is no SP3 for the 64 bit version of Windows XP.

That's good news. I think you also need to analyze of rootkits being on the right side. So, now:
Search for rootkits with a program SPECIALLY designed to detect and remove the (aswMBR):Download this file to your desktop. Double-click the icon to run the program. When the opportunity to download and install the latest Avast definitions do.Run a scan. Results in red indicate that this was not a false positive! Do you need to remove the rootkit (including "FixMBR" if necessary). And finally, leave your PC on overnight and search for viruses, using this site:Once we are convinced that your PC is clean, here are my instructions (just in case where you still cannot run batch of Geek-Tech file, etc.):1. download the installation of SP3 and IE8 (beforehand) files. I prefer to keep these (and other useful files) on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links for the installation files:
http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)
(You can TOTALLY ignore the message "intended for it professionals"!)
http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=43 (for IE8)
(You need to install IE8 AFTER SP3! Trust in me.)
IMPORTANT NOTE!
It is VERY important to ensure that Internet Explorer is at the level IE6 before installing SP3. In case you have IE7 or IE8, you must uninstall it / them, using the Control Panel Add / Remove programs. Let us know if you need assistance with this.
Once again:
Make sure that IE is IE6 level before installing SP3. You can go directly from IE6 to IE8 after SP3 has been installed.
2. disconnect Internet. Also unplug all unnecessary devices.
3. temporarily disable the automatic updates. To do this:
Start | Control Panel (switch to Classic view if not already selected). Automatic updates
4 set up a clean boot. The last thing you need is for a program that runs in the background to interfere with these updates! (It happens!) For more information:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353
(Note that this is the same as setting up a "Diagnostic boot.")
Reset.
5 install the SP3. Restart TWICE.
6 switch to IE8. Restart TWICE.
(What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).
7 unscrew the clean boot. (That is, return to the Normal startup).
8 make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should already be):
Start | Control Panel | Security Center
9 visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates. Restart each time you are prompted.
10 re - enable automatic updates.

Relax and breathe.
FIRST: Uninstall IE8 and IE7 if they are installed. Back to all the way back to IE6. You want other patches before you get those. Reboot after doing this.
You are not the first to ask questions about how to upgrade a clean Windows XP - not even installation in the last week. In fact, I will just cut and paste my answer here... here:
Get SP2 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]
Install it.
Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.
Get SP3 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]
Install it.
Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.
Download at least Internet Explorer 7 (if it is not Internet Explorer 8).
Install it.
Reset.
Now, try to get the updates through the normal web page (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) and see how much more you can get (100 +) and keep checking until you no longer have.
Back - let everyone know if it worked for you.

After a fresh install with XP Home EWdition, Service pack 1, 2.0, and 3.0, I can't install Windows Update or IE8. Update back me to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2497281

But I have service Pack 3. IE8 fails, install a convenience store, but after following the instructions there is no difference.

There was problems with the server for updates for a few weeks now...
Many people say that download and run the Update Agent stand-alone file solves this problem:

For later use, it is not necessary to use all the steps you mentioned. You can upgrade directly from SP1a to SP3.

SP2 error: "the Service pack installation cannot continue.
Hello
Hope someone can help with this.
When I try to install SP2 I get this message "the Service pack installation cannot continue - is missing one or more components of the system which requires service pack."
My computer is a Dell Studio 1737 laptop came with Vista Premium 64 bit OS. Received 3 months ago.
Last week, I got a blue screen while making a rescue disk (I know, it's ironic), computer was slow, so I tried to do the system restore. System Restore does not work (I installed SP2 in fact at the moment, no problem). Looked for the solution, only thing I could find was to re - install OS repair mode (upgrade).
Found some info on VLite (knew, it has not been accepted by MS). Did the repair installation with VLite, added updates and drivers, took only some of the great language files. Load and run fine, ran all updates to windows. When I tried to install SP2, I got the "Service pack installation cannot continue - one or more components of the system that requires the service pack are missing. Looking for solutions, concluded the MS 'this may be due to the installation of VLite"only resolution is to re - install with OEM disc.
If that's what I did, re-installed, (repair - upgrade), once again. Load and run fine, ran all updates to windows. When I tried to install SP2 I got the "Service pack installation cannot continue - is missing one or more components of the system which requires service pack"-NEW.
I have:
-tried several times
-uninstalled VLite (of fat)
-Disabled antivirus, Norton 360
-Downloaded the standalone KB948465 - X 64
-guarantees for KB955430 and all updates were installed
-Ran "reset windows update components.
-Re-installed "Windows updater.
-We searched MS forum and Web site for help, can't find anything on the message of"missing components".
-Ran "System tool" KB947821

Windows Update cannot install Office SP2 and KB973924; codes error 78(f) and 643
Hello
I'm currently under Windows 7 64 bit which has been updated to XP in January this year.
Since July, Windows 7 update tried to install following updates without success:
1) the 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 2 (SP1/SP2) - error code generated 78(f)
(2) security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (KB973924) - 643 generated error code
Windows Update tried to install these several times but without success.
Also, I tried to install iTunes and get the following error:
"An error occurred during the installation of assembly"Microsoft.VC80.CRT, version = "8.0.50727.4053", type = "win32", processorArchitecture, publickeyToken = "1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b" is"x 86". See Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0 X 80070002. »
I tried many internet research to try and find a solution to these problems but have had no success. I tried the following:
(1) re-intsalled .net framework 4
(2) run the System File Checker that could not so I tried my windows disk, but it could not start because the message says that two updates were waiting to be installed
Now, I'm really worried that I have a big problem with Windows.
Well, any help that you can give to avoid reinstalling my system would be appreiated.
Thank you very much
Thanks for your help Irfan H and PA bear but unfortunately none of the above suggestions has solved my problem and I couldn't find another solution on the internet that worked.
Finally, I had to do a clean install of my system using an image of my hard drive that I created during my first installation of windows 7. Now, everything seems to work properly and installing updates without problems.
Thanks again.

Cannot install Vista SP2; 'upgrade' disabled when I try and re - install by KB958044
Hello
After three days of struggle with trying to get Vista Ultimate (purhcased at the United States) SP2 update, and several failures of various updates automatically downloaded from Windows Update: I finally found and read
MS response has been a link to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958044
But when I try to follow the instructions in KB958044: 'upgrade' is disabled.
I don't really wish to throw three days work of re - install my programs, tweak the settings, etc.
Thank you, Bill Woodruff Bill Woodruff
Hi Bill Woodruff.
Because the standalone SP2 package failed with the error: '0 x 80070490', you can try to run Checksur (KB947821) to address corruption in the manifest of component maintenance (EC) and try to install SP2 Standalone Package.
To run Checksur (KB947821) follow the mentioned below as follows:
(1) download and run the system update by the following article preparation tool: KB947821. Description of the system update tool for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(2) put the computer in Cleanboot before installing the stand-alone Package of SP2:
To perform the cleanboot, refer to:
Click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue. On the general tab, click Selective startup, Selective Startup.Under, clear the check box load startup items. Click the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all. Click OK.
How to perform a clean boot procedure to determine if background programs are interfering with a game or a program that you currently use: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939671
(3) try to install the stand-alone Package for Windows Vista SP2.
(4) after Installation of SP2, put the computer in Normal mode:
Click Start and type msconfig in the box start the search. On the general tab, select "NORMAL STARTUP". Click on apply, then OK. When you are prompted, click on restart.
However if SP2 fails to install again, then you can have make a repair or Installation upgrade Inplace of Vista to install SP2 as mentioned in article KB958044 after uninstalling SP1.
During the Upgrade Installation process, you will get the options go online to get the latest updates for installation and do not receive updates for installation. If you choose the option to go online to get updates, then it tries to download updates for the installation process, the windows updates required for Installation, including driver updates and it won't include all the latest Service Packs for Windows Vista.
If you get an error "upgrade is disabled" when you try the Inplace upgrade, it may be due to a version of Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 installed, you can not upgrade by using media that does not Service Pack 1. If you have a drive without SP1 and SP1 is installed on the computer as an update, you need to maybe uninstall SP1 first and then start the Installation of upgrade or you can arrange a full disc with SP1 to make Installation of upgrade by using the product key came with your upgrade disc.
For more information, please visit the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951247
If you try to uninstall SP1 to upgrade Installation, you can follow the mentioned below as follows:
1) click Start, type Appwiz.cpl in the Start Search box, and then click Appwiz.cpl in the list programs.
(2) If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.3) click View installed updates. Click service (KB936330) package you want to uninstall, and then click on uninstall.
For more information, please visit the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948537
Hope this information is useful.
Let me know if it worked.
