  • Open a file in Word Starter 2010

I use Word Starter 2010 Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. When I open some files (not created in this version of Word, for example Word on Windows XP Home edition) I get the message "there was a problem sending the command to the program". I click OK and the file is available and I can edit, print, etc normally.  When I access a file created Word Starter 2010 I don't get this message. What happens and how can I correct it?

    My computer is a HP Pavilion p6 - 2007 c.

Thanks for checking out the Forum from HP Support.

More recent versions of Word usually convert older file types so that you can access them.  It may be irritating, however.  See if the following helps you all:

Your problem may be related to the "Run this program as Administrator" option.  To access the option, right-click on your MSWord icon and select "Properties".  Then choose the tab "compatibility".  If the box "Run this program as an administrator" is checked, uncheck it.

Also, when you open a file created with a different version of the word to make sure that you save it as a file Word 2010 (click on "save under" then select "Save as type" menu drop-down "Word Document (* docx)".)  The next time you need to open this file that Word should not have to convert it for you.

Hope this helps... and thanks for being a customer of HP!

  • Cannot open files with the EXTENSION of the PPT FILE

I can't open a file with the following extension using PowerPoint ppt. The message below is what I get-

The selected file is not a valid Microsoft PowerPoint file. It may be a file created by another program.

Try by double-clicking the file in Windows Explorer to see if another program opens to it. If PowerPoint opens again when you double-click the file in Windows Explorer, it is possible that the file is not a PowerPoint file, but its extension has been renamed to be that of a PowerPoint file type registered (for example, .ppt, .pptx, .pps, .ppsx, .pptx, .pot or .potx) but the file is not a PowerPoint file.

To determine which program can open the file, try one of the following:

    • Contact the original author (if known) to know what program you used to create this file. Then rename the file with the correct extension so that it can be opened by this program.
    • Try opening the file in other programs.
    • If you or someone you know, are very knowledgeable about software, review the file header in a text editor to determine which program can read the file.

Another possibility is that the file has been damaged during transfer from another computer. Trying to transfer the file again.

The file may be damaged. If you have a copy of the file backup, use it. It is not possible repair corrupted file.

A PHP file is like any other text file you may know. So, you can use easily available programs such as Notepad on Windows or TextEdit on aMac, to open a PHP file. You can also use these programs to edit and save the PHP file. In addition, there are a multitude of programs specifically designed for editing PHP files.

To open a PHP file in Notepad, first launch the Notepad application. In Notepad, select file, open in the menu bar. Navigate to the folder where you saved the file PHP. You will notice that the file does not appear in the list. To see the PHP file, you will need to change the extension to all files by using the dropdown next to the file name field. Now you should be able to select your PHP file, then click Open.

  • Cannot open files with Windows XP 5.1 and Explorer 8.0 .dot

Recently, I tried to open a small graphics ending in .dot file.  I have quoted me a Windows XP page with several options.  I selected the option to use quickdrivers.com which eventually took me to the Regwork Software menu.  She provided a scan of my XP files disclosing several registry errors.  How to proceed?  Is this 3rd viable third party software that will allow me to open .dot files.  Or is there another recommended software?  Advisor.

It very much looks like your computer is infected. You must be proactive and run now:

    http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Regarding the .dot file, this is not a graphic file. A .dot file is a MS Word template file.

You do not want to use the scanners to register at all.

  • Cannot open files with Photoshop CS6 RAW - Camera Raw

    Hi all

I am trying to open. Files CR2 to a Canon 450 d on Photoshop CS6, as well as with Lightroom 4 but it does not work.

I've updated the Adobe Camera Raw in its last edition (8.8), but in any case, when I try to open them, it appears the following message: it basically says that photoshop is not able to open the file, make sure that you have installed the latest Camera Raw and visit the link for more info...

After the search for solutions on the Internet, I also tried to convert RAW to DNG files, but Adobe DNG converter says that the folder does not contain any RAW file, although they are all. CR2 files...

I tried several times to many ways... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try another card and card reader. Also, be sure to try to use the Finder to copy files directly from your card to hard drive, if you aren't already. Using the software provided a camera to transfer has been known to corrupt raw files.

  • Cannot open files (desktop programs) *.exe

When I try to open .exe files I get a message error that says "this file doesn't have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options Control Panel. " I went to control panel > tools > folder options > file types and tried to put 'exe' to 'demand', but that doesn't seem to work. Funny enough, I am able to open other types of programs such as pictures, videos and files PDF and if I open a file html directly, I can open Firefox, but I can't open firefox.exe directly. I want to run an antivirus program or malware-check software, but of course, I can't open any .exe files.

I am running Windows XP SP3 on a Lenovo Thinkpad T61.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Before you answer, please note the specific language in my error message. I want to emphasize that this link does not solve my problem. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837334.
