Cannot open the Lightroom catalog on external drive

Please excuse the screen name. I tried so much to during registration, but they were all taken while I was sure that it would be available.

I'm moving from a PC to a Mac laptop.

I copied my drive whole photo on an external drive, which is what I use with my laptop. My catalogue and photos are stored on this external hard drive and when I try to open the catalog, I get the following error:

Lightroom does not start with this catalogue. It is on a network volume or a volume on which Lightroom is unable to save the changes. But I have no problem opening an image in Photoshop so I know not the files being copied in a readable format.

Ideas?

Hi somedaymetalkpretty

I suspect that your external drive is formatted with the NTFS file system, which is normal for Windows, but impossible to write in Mac. You will need to use an external hard drive formatted to FAT32 if you want to use in Windows and Mac.

Beat

PS: I guess that your catalog (.lrcat file) does not exceed 4GB, otherwise you would have a problem with FAT32.

  • error. Cannot open the Lightroom Catalog

Hello, I receive the error message: "the called Lightroom Catalog catalog Lightroom 5 cannot open another application already has its opening" at the opening of Lightroom. There is no other application don't use it. There is one file available, not back to the top I was download a catalog of 5.3 TB over the past 4 days and has not stopped. RAW files are sitting on a separate hard drive to the laptop where the Lightroom Catalog is. I can't access this catalog now. I had a crash before it happens... someone can help here?

You must go to the folder where your catalog and look for a file with .lock extension. This file must be deleted, and then you can again use your catalog. Sometimes, if Lightroom closes abnormally, the lock file is not removed. And that's what causes this error message.

  • Cannot open the Lightroom Catalog

    Hi.

I get a message on the screen in windows when I try to go on lightroom that says "lightroom catalog could not be opened because it has been opened by another application already and I don't know where it may be or even where to look? can you help me please

    Jenny

Go in the same folder as your Lightroom catalog file.

In this folder is a file whose name ends in. LOCK (probably all lowercase). Delete this one. LOCK file. Do not remove anything else.

  • Cannot open the Lightroom Catalog because another application already is open.

I hard a message that another application has the open catalog, but I have no idea what's open. Any ideas on how to understand what program it was open?

When Lightroom has an open catalog it creates a temporary file next to the catalog file, which has the same name with an extension .lock. By default, the files are located as shown in the attached screenshot.

If Lightroom is not normally closed the .lock file will remain in place and prevent Lightroom opening of the catalog said.

With Lightroom closed go to the subfolder of Lightroom, and if there is a file with the name of .lock extension remove the file, and then try and open Lightroom.

  • Cannot open the Lightroom Catalog because he is "busy in another program" - what can I do?

I tried to restart my computer (three times...) and reinstall the program - no use.

I have no idea what program uses the catalog or anything that doesn't go there.

    Help, please!

Try looking in your catalog file to see if there is a file with .lock extension. It should have the same name as your catalog file if we're here. If you find such a file, you must remove it. Once you do that Lightroom should start normally.

My Lightroom does not. It is showing the message - failed to open the Lightroom catalog called Catalog Lightroom because it is too new to be used by this version of Lightroom. You want to select a different catalog?

It is a catalog that you created on your computer, or coming from another computer?

If it is one that has been created on your computer, you can search your computer to see if you have two different versions of Lightroom installed. If so, then you want to open the new version of Lightroom by double-clicking its icon, and then you should be able to open the catalog.

  • Cannot open the Lightroom program

When I try to open 5 Lightroom my computer tells me that it's already open in another application. I don't know where it is. any ideas?

I couldn't find exactly the Lightroom Catalog icons that you showed in the message above... I had already gone to pictures/Lightroom and clicked on remove previously so he showed no file... I clicked on Delete again and that removed Lightroom in the catalog of photos... and I am now able to open my lightroom program... I have all my pictures import again... but it's ok... I am so relieved to be able to open the program. You know how it happened? Thank you very much.

  • Cannot open the Lightroom

I got lightroom for a year, but for a few months now lightroom just will not open. I click on the app and it comes up with a box saying "Lightroom catalog named"Lightroom Catalog"cannot open another application has opened" and gives me the option to choose a different catalog, to continue or exit, but if I try to choose another catalogue none of my catalogs are here. Does anyone have an Adviser on how to solve this problem? I already tried to uninstall lightroom and enter the taskmanager to shut what is open and they do not work.

    Charlotteb salvation,

With Lr closed go to the location where your catalog (by default it is Pictures/Lightroom)

Remove the . Lock file with the same name as your catalog. For example, in the image below, it is Lightroomcatalog.lrcat.lock

    • Rename or delete the Lightroomcatalog.lrcat.lock file.

    • Restart Lightroom

Let us know if that helps.

    Kind regards

  • Photos will not open the iPhoto on an external drive, already "migrated" library

I moved my iPhoto to an external drive library, updated, then "migrated" photo library with the drive connected. Once I opened the Photos without the drive connected, and there is a library 'Photos' of 9 seemingly random photos. Now, the pictures will not open the old library with the drive connected. Is there a way to change the pictures in the library accesses?

Here's the disclaimer that I get: the contents of the iPhoto 'iPhoto Library' library has already migrated to the Photos.  Open the Photos to display your library or use a compatible version of iPhoto to open the iPhoto library.

(But it does not open the library on the external hard drive).

Photos of the Lauch with Opiton maintained key pressed if you get this window:

Search and select the library located on the EHD and click Choose library.  The location of the selected library will appear just below the window.

I never heard of this issue, but try to update the BIOS as Akuma said. It s worth a try! On the Toshiba site, you can search for an update of the BIOS:

In the worst cases, you should try to reinstall Windows using the Toshiba recovery disc.

  • 'Open the connection' VM on external drive does not always open when connecting

    Hello community,

I have a MacBook Pro with 10.6.8.  For technical reasons, I can't upgrade to a newer version of Mac OS X.  I have a license for VMware Fusion 2.x and I'm using the latest version of VMware I am legally authorized to use, 2.0.8.  For technical reasons, I have to stay with what are free upgrades I have the right to use.

I have a guest to Solaris that resides on an external drive.  I want to make sure this guest operating system starts when I connect the MacBook Pro.

In the finder, I put VMware fusion as "open at Login".

In the library of VMware, I put the to Solaris comments for "Open when VMware Fusion begins.

Sometimes the comments of Solaris OS * fact * start automatically, sometimes it does not.  Can someone help me make sure it * still * starts?  I'm not yet able to determine why he still does not start.

    Thank you

    Ed

If Fusion launches before the external drive turns and rises in the finder, it will not see the virtual machine and does not start.  Launch of Fusion manually or power cycle external drive so there ' hot' before you start.

  • Still trying to open the Lightroom Catalog and stops

I tried to import a picture from a file on my computer. The Lightroom 3.6 Lightroomstopworking.JPG program stops.  When I try to open the program, a message appears that says "Lightroom - opening catalog: DSC_2155.lrcat.

Immediately after that that appears on my screen, that a box appears that says "Adobe Photoshop has stopped working" below to bed "a problem caused blocking the program works correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. »

Of course I never am notified and a solution is never available.  I tried to delete Lightroom and reloading the program, but the same problem occurs.

is there a way to fix this?

  • Cannot open the 5.3 Lightroom Catalog. Download «...» It is not writable and cannot be opened"message.

    Hello world

I'm having a problem opening a lightroom catalog. I get a message "Lightroom can't use the catalog because it is not writable and cannot be opened.

The catalogue and thousands of RAW files are stored on an external drive.

Here are the steps that caused the problem in my view:

1 has worked with the catalog on my laptop. Disconnected the disk without closing first Lightroom (big mistake).

2 connect the external hard drive on desktop PC and did extra work. Closed Ligtroom (office) and disconnected the disk.

3 reconnect the drive of the laptop while original catalogue is always open (see #1 above). Clicked on an image at which point Lightroom crashed and closed by itself.

The problem now is that the catalog opens is no longer on computers. Any attempt to open the results in the message "Lightroom can't use the catalog because it is not writable and cannot be opened. There is no lock or log file that can be deleted, just the lrcat file and tons of files with preview of the data.

I hope this isn't a lost cause and I can still recover the catalog. There are 2 work days.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

Ok. I found a solution. As Ligthroom catalog is a SQLite database, you can use a database tool to fix it. Just download SQLite www.sqlite.org for your OS (Windows 7 in my case) and unzip into C:\SQLite for ease of use. Copy your catalog corrupted the C:\SQLite file as well as to keep things simple.

At the command prompt start > run, type 'cmd' and press ENTER. This opens the command prompt where you will need to run the following commands:

    1 cd sqlite

    2. echo .dump | SQLite3 yourcatalogfilename.lrcat > tempcatalog.sql

    3 sqlite3 - init tempcatalog.sql newcatalogfilename.lrcat

After the execution of line 3, you may or may not see error messages. No worries, it simply truncated faulty records that is what causes the catalog to crash.

Now, copy the newcatalogfilename.lrcat into your lightroom catalog file and run it. You should be able to get things up and running to where you left, or to the point where original Lightroom Catalog has been corrupted in first place.

I hope this helps. It took me a few hours to find a solution, but it saved me at least 2 days of work. Original credit goes to the author of the article according to http://www.simplyness.com/more-photography-tips/recover-corrupted-unrepairable-lightroom-3 - catalog - with - sqlite.html. It seemed to have worked for Lightroom 3 and still worked for Lightroom 5.3 in my case.
