Cannot open, uninstall or repair Acrobat Reader DC

I can't open all files in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader. The final message is that I can't connect to DDL. I tried to uninstall, can't. I have tried repairing, cannot. I can't update because I can't open the program. What should I do?

Hi bernardd8091774,

Try to remove Acrobat Reader using the cleaner found here tool(for Windows): Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat cleaning - Adobe Labs tool , restart the computer, download and install CD from here: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution .

Could you please let me know you get the exact error message?

While you can't remove individual documents, you can choose how much (if any) to show.

Edit > Preferences > Documents > open settings. Everything you want to value "Documents in the recently used list".

Thank you John. The problem has been resolved. I'm sure this has to do with changes of microsoft with one of their updates since I subscribe to Office 365. Somehow my Acrobat version 10 a program started working again after a week of being disabled. I use windows 8.1 and dread of having to go through windows 10 soon.

  • How can I open a most current Acrobat Reader?

How can I open a most current Acrobat Reader? My modest laptop uses Vista Home Basic. 32 bit. Only 1 GB of memory. Lots of space still available. Is now installed with Acrobat 8.1.2. I want to install 10.1.4. I click on the correct buttons to an Adobe page to download it. Machine refuses to even ask "do you want to run or save...?", asks simply "want to register? So I temporarily deactivate my security, called as a potential barrier to the software download. Machine still refuses. WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW? I'm almost illiterate electronically.

In your first post you write Acrobat 8.1.2; Please note that Acrobat and Adobe Reader are two different programs

    • Acrobat can create, edit, convert PDF files
    • Reader can only view the PDF files, fill out forms, or add comments

The latest version of Acrobat 8.x is 8.3.1; for higher versions (9 or 10), you will need to pay for an upgrade.  But you can update to 8.3.1 via Help | Look for the updates.

The latest version of reader for Vista is 10.1.14; You can download the installer for 10.1.4 in http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ then update on 10.1.14 via Help | Look for the updates.

  • Cannot run PDFs with Adobe Acrobat reader.

Sometimes when I try to download a PDF file I get a mssg: 'there is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/reader. If he is out running and try again. (6:6). "I cannot determine any file that is open or may be running. I have XP and my programs are listed as: Adobe Air, Adobe Flash Player ActiveX 11 (with no listed file size), Adobe Reader X (10 1.1) and Adobe Shockwave Player 11.6. What could be the problem?

Very often, problems with Adobe Reader can be cured by uninstalling and reinstalling.

Use Control Panel > add or remove programs.

    • Uninstall Adobe Reader X and Adobe Air (do not uninstall Flash Player Active X or Shockwave Player).
    • Double check to make sure that there are no other versions of Adobe Reader.  If there are, uninstall them.

Download Adobe Reader here http://get.adobe.com/reader/ --> don't forget to uncheck the box to install McAfee Security Scan Plus.

Restart the computer in a "clean boot" mode as follows:

Open the System Configuration utility (start > run > msconfig > OK)

    1. In the System Configuration utility dialog box, click the general tab, and then click Selective startup.
    2. Click to uncheck the Process SYSTEM. INI file check.
    3. Click to uncheck the process to WIN. INI file check.
    4. Click to clear the Load Startup items check box. Check The Load System Services and to use Original BOOT. INI are checked.
    5. Click the Services tab.
    6. Click to select the hide all Microsoft Services check box.
    7. Click disable all, and then click OK.
    8. When you are prompted, click restart to restart the computer.

Run the installer for Adobe Reader

    Restart the computer.

  • Windows 10 - cannot open pdf files in MS Reader

Hello, I have recently updated my phone company to 10 Windows in Windows 7. I have been using Acrobat Reader XI without problems. Since I was walking, opening PDF files always ends without response. After you open the PDF, he held only icon for a few seconds and then nothing (not even a blink of a new window / frame). I already tried several methods:

    • Uninstalling XI player associated with the application of advanced uninstaller. Put it back, with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
    • Complete uninstall of the CD with AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2015 player. Then reinstall > unsuccessful
    • I also tried the CD Player update to the latest version, and then using to repair mechanism (help > repair installation) > same result

When I open the CD (shortcut or *.exe) directly, it runs normally and it allows me to open probably almost any PDF file as in the past. But if I trie to open any PDF file, it doesn't do anything. After consulting the table of processes through the Task Manager, I discovered that there are two processes that are running in the background "Adobe Acrobat Reader (32-bit) DC". It is + 2 after trying to open another PDF file / CD player.

I also had this same problem on different machines. This is quite annoying, because I don't want to use the native Windows player...

    My current status:

HP ZBook 15, i7-4800MQ, 16 GB of RAM

    MS Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC - Czech (15.008.20082)

    Hey tomasnav,

Open the drive, go to the Edit-> Preferences-> Security enhances & disable protected mode.

Check f, it brings a change.

    Kind regards

  • Cannot open Uninstall HP Mac OSX 10.8.2

HP Photosmart C3180 via USB of retina of MacBook Pro with 10.8.2 of the Mountain Lion.

I get the error "Cannot open the application"HP Uninstaller"because that PowerPC applications no longer supported"

I used Time Machine to leave my old iMac with 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) for the MacBook. I can print and copy OK. I can also scan using the system preferences / print and fax. However, I can't use the HP Device Manager. It gives the message "error - HP scan Pro scan sorry could not be initialized (scanner not found)" even if I just warmed up the scanner via system preferences and the printer is properly listed. So I don't have the OCR features.

I thought that I would like to reinstall the printer S/W, but I came across this problem with uninstalling.

I also checked for the S/W via Apple updates in accordance with instructions for the Mountain Lion, and there is not. I still have the original CD, but the ap installation has a prohibited circle.

Help I'm stuck and I would have my OCR back features. Any ideas?

    Hi ScotyG,

Please be aware the Photosmart C3180 lacks software HP Full Feature for Mountain Lion OSX 10.8 more (in fact not for the 10.7 Lion). The Manager devices HP or HP Scan Pro software is not supported by 10.8 and also the HP uninstaller program is not like the version is too old.

What you might try is install software for a new product in order to get a working Uninstall HP application so you can remove the old software. For example, to install the software for this product: HP Photosmart e-all-in-one 5520, printer

As the Setup program will not find the device, of course, must select "my device is not listed" and skipp the HP Setup Assistent. This is why the installation is complete, HP application uninstallation will update. Open HP uninstaller and choose the Photosmart C3180 from the list uninstall the HP software. In the case where it is not listed, you can use the cleaning brush - for that you do not select a device in the list but hold down the 'Control', 'Option' and 'Command' by clicking on the button uninstall. This will allow the cleaning brush.

Therefore, the software is uninstalled, you can add the printer again via print & scan and install the driver via Apple Software Update. Base drivers allow you to print and scan (via Capture of Image, preview or Print & Fax). You will also have the HP utility to check ink levels Supply etc. OCR scanning is not possible with these drivers. For this you need a 3rd party software such as ReadIris of Irislink.

    Hope the information is useful.

  • PDF file not opening not in Adobe Acrobat Reader Mac OS 10.9.5

I can't open a PDF file in my program Adobe Acrobat Reader on my Mac (OS 10.9.5). When I try to open a PDF file, the icon for the program appears in my menu bar and bounces as opening. However, does not open the file itself. I get access to preferences, etc., but I can't not all files to display. I tried to open files from both my Finder and directly from the Acrobat Reader software. There is no error message is displayed. the file does not appear. I tried to reinstall only the program three times, restarted my computer several times, I would like to admit it, etc., but no change.

If anyone can help with this problem, I would be very happy. I run my own business from this computer and use Acrobat every day, so this is a pretty big deal for me. I would be grateful for any help you can offer.

    Thank you very much.

  • Cannot save PDF revisions in Acrobat Reader ms.

I downloaded a pdf file of my account of Friesen press for reviews and the Adobe Acrobat Reader (link provided) domain controller. When I open the doc and start working on it, I can't save the file. After trying three different ways (save, save under and hit the Save icon), I get the same message: a big empty box with Save you at the top and (nothing else.) FP is a free publication service and manages hundreds of these files all the time. I got a call and email in them, but they are not great at quick responses. Meanwhile, I have to get this book outta my life! Any suggestions? FP told me I did not need to get the Acrobat Reader paid domain controller.

    Hi ErinScullion,

    Try this: -.

The default "Save as" dialog Acrobat DC is different from the dialogue box you had in earlier versions of Acrobat, it also allows you to record in the clouds and previous locations that you saved the files. It is possible that when Acrobat tries to connect to the 'cloud', it runs into problems. You can try to disable this feature to see if this brings your backup in the back of the box: open Acrobat Preferences, then go to the "General" category and uncheck "show the online storage when you save files:

I would like to know if it works.

I tried to send an email with attachments 44 and would not send the email. Ever since I tried to send this e-mail, I have been doing the error msg.

Anyone know how I can get this to work for me again?

Thank you, any help is greatly appreciated.

The file you are trying to open is (you can see from the name) a BMP, PDF files no file. Adobe Reader can only open PDF files, just so stop trying to open it with Adobe Reader. The app, users of Windows for BMP files is painting.

    Hi civilclerk1,

It seems the PDF Creator have set the target version higher than that you have installed on your machine.

You will need to check with the person who actually created these pdf files.

    Hello mitchel84,

Condemned is a word that I try to avoid.  :)

My advice would be to tap F8 and see if we can start in safe mode.

If we can start in safe mode, then we can try a clean boot.

The following article describes this process:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
