Cannot remove HARD disk configuration PERC 6i with use of the SAS drives foreign. Existing data are not important. Scratch reloading to redeploy the server.

Dell Poweredge 2950 III with serial number note from the Admin: have the label removed according to the TOU > receipt readers traded since an identical poweredge almost eliminated. In the configuration of the PERC controller 0 6i utility, disk groups show as foreigners. Messages following the procedure to import the configuration, then remove before was not effective. The prior configuration appears in the menu.

I would like to simply clean configurations of VD for the readers and the controller. After it is deleted then next step is to set up a configuration I want. My new Setup is not relevant for this post. The goal and the only question is how to clear existing shared disk configurations.

VD0 clear addition to figure 2 SAS PD/hard drives as virtual disk unique. RAID levels 0, status is offline, SMART status not = no error, County VD = 1, PD = 2 count, operation = none

Is a similar to VD0 VD1

other berries are currently empty.

For initial troubleshooting I have removed all the HARD drive except a single disk on the server. This disc shows also as stranger.

In the PERC 6i config utility:

VD MGMT doesn't show CONTROLLER0 - no configuration is present. Choice of the F2 are Config. Foreign config based on availability. (Create new VD and manage preserved Cache are greyed out) Right pane of the screen indicates "foreign Config present, controller prop.: DG = 0, County VD count = 0, County of PD = 1".

PD MGMT shows only the formatted Mo 139 K SAS single, foreign = State, SMART status not is no mistake, operation = none

VIEW FOREIGNERS shows DG0 = foreign, Virtual disk 255 with DG count = 1. County of VD = 1, County of PD = 1

I installed 3 of the disks individually rotating as a single HARD drive with similar results.

WITH 2 HDD SAS installed only difference is VD Mgmt shows County DG = 0, County VD = 0, County of PD = 2.   View foreign shows VD255 prop: Raid 0, Raid = foreign status, size = na, operation = none. | Disk prop group. : VD Count = 1, County of PD = 2, Ded HS = 0 (because it does not exist).

Thanks Chris. Problem is solved. I would like to Flash the firmware as precautionary measure? Still confused why initial in the VD Mgmt tab procedure has failed.

All readers of Restore tab PD-ready state.

  • Hard disk Configuration question...

    Hello

I just ordered a new Qosmio custom.  It has an i7 Processer 4700MQ and 16 GB DDR3L 1600 MHZ SDRAM.  The primary HD is an mSATA SSD 256GB.  The second and third HDs are the two 500 GB (7200 RPM, Serial ATA)

I'm looking for the best configuration of the installation for the first Pro on hard disks for best results with respect to the speed and efficiency.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration.  It is a big problem for me and I am in kind of uncharted waters with several hard drives.  It is a big step up.  (I'm not a professional.  It's all related hobby)

It looks like a portable Setup loud enough!

I suggest doing a RAID 0 the two HDS and most all the data files (media, projects, export) on the RAID. This should give you the best performance for your hardware.

For files of zero and cache you can experiment with try them first on boot/OS/programs (SSD) drive vs RAID array 0.

Good luck and please report your finds for your specific projects.

    Kind regards

  • After the reinstallation of Vista (32 bit) I'm done with Windows and most of the stuff on the disk 1 (c), but with stuff on the disk 2 (d).

original title: after reinstallation of Vista (32 bit), I found myself with Windows and most of the stuff on the disk 1 (c), but with stuff on the disk 2 (d). It's hard to backup.

I wish all the disk 0, which is 250 GB, leaving the 1 free 500 GB disc to have been the repository of backup and archiving of others.  But I don't want to have to reinstall everything.  I couldn't move bootmgr, BOOTSECT. BAK and 'boot' folder on the disk 1 (c) by somehow the system partition?  Then there would be no OS stuff on disk 0 (D :); back, but better than mixed.)  What happens if I disconnect physically the smallest disk, Startup Repair will make the disc with Windows boot and system partitions? Thank you.

    Hi OldScientist,

Before performing these steps, it is recommended to make a backup of your important data.

Step 1: Mark Disk 1 (C) as active partition, then launch Startup Repair

Follow the steps mentioned in the link below to mark C as active partition

    Mark a partition as active

  • Need help with my hard disk configuration

    Hi guys,.
Ive read a lot about the best configuration of hard disk for my editing video pc... but I need some feedback. Here are my specs. Im running Windows 10 with this HD configuration. I use my system for Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, and After Effects.

1 SDS drive 250 GB operating system, program files, swap file

2 HDD (sata III) of disk 2 TB stockmedia / assets / my documents

Disc 3 HARD drive (sata III) projects 2 TB

4 drive HARD drive (sata III) 750Go export/renders, PP previews

5 HARD drives (sata III) of disk cache AE, PP, scratchdisk photoshop, captured 750Go audio/video media cache

If it would be really beneficial to my performance, I also have another HARD drive disc (sataIII) 2 TB which I could build in the case.

It looks all right? Or you guys change anything? I have a RAID configuration, but what I understand... RAID 3 or 5 would have need of more disks (same size preferred) and preferably a hardware controller. But my budget will not allow this for now.

Thanks in advance for your comments guys...

You probably already read this, but if you do not page Tweakers: Disk Setup

you drive configuration looks good, you can use the windows resources monitor to determine if the readers are struggling as well.

If I had to change something, I would try 2x2tb raid 0 (disk 2 and 3) for media/assets/projects using mbd raid (if your mbd supports raid). I might even try to add the spare hard drive 2 TB, 3x2tb RAID 0 for performance even more. If 'my documents' is just random storage (not for your active video projects), you can move to another drive out of the raid, as the 4 drive or another room to spare. Since you already have these parts, raid can be a good way to boost performance for free. any raid can add some risks more data loss, so you just make sure that your backups stick to the currents. You can save a copy of the project first (just the file .prproj) in a few different places at the end of your editing sessions, or use auto-enregistre to another location, to avoid having to save as much.

Moreover a unique fast sata ssd is comparable to 3 hard drives in raid, so you could look (s) ssd, sata for better cheaper and simpler vs an expensive hardware raid card. SATA ssd prices keep falling off and show no signs of slowing down, so if/when you get some later, they could be even more affordable.

  • C220 M3 independent RAID / hard disk configuration

    Hi all

We recently received a C220 1.5.3b M3 which will serve as a virtual machine for Cisco servers. I have difficulty getting the machine to detect the hard drive, which I added. It does even not show the hard drive in the boot option in the BIOs. I watched some of the related topic and found this: http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-com...

The list of hard drives are given in table 11 of the document. At the end of the table, he States:

Approved (1) the RAID Configurations on board, mezzanine cards and all RAID PCIe controllers

If you have not selected the option upgrade integrated RAID (ROM5 or ROM55), a mezzanine card or a PCIe RAID controller on the internal disks (LSI MegaRAID 9271 - 8i or 9271CV-8i), you can select up to 4 drives SATA only which will be controlled with the only integrated SATA RAID controller.

Otherwise, select up to eight SAS + SATA drives listed in table 11. You can mix SAS and SATA drives

Does this mean C220 needs a RAID controller or a Mezzanine Card to detect a hard drive?

Also, should we use hard drives in table 11?

    Thank you!

    Greetings.

According the data sheet you have referenced, you may use any Sata disks listed with the controller on board.

If you have the ROM5/ROM55 or LSI megaraid card, then you can use one of the disks SATA or SAS registered.

If you bought the SAS drives, but strictly the sata controller integrated without the option ROM5/ROM55 chip, then do not see or be able to use the disks.

If you use other readers what can be found on the data sheet, the system will not recognize the readers.

If you have disks Sata and intend to use the built in software raid LSI, you will want to confirm that you have enabled the UCS ROM option (see http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/hw/C220/install/C220/raid.html#80418

Note that the embedded software raid controller is not supported in VMware.

  • Remove hard disk while the VM is on

I have a requirement for the removal of a hard disk of a VM to script while it is running. I can do this OK the client virtual infrastructure, but if I try and get the PowerCLI I get an error that the operation cannot be performed while the virtual machine is on. Any ideas on how to work around this problem? Here are the commands I'm using:

    $hd = get-disk hard - vm myvmname | where {$_.} Name - eq 'hard drive'}

    Remove-hard drive - disk hard $hd - confirm: $false

I am running 4.0U1 PowerCLI and the latest version of vSphere, ESXi and vCenter.

    Thank you

    James

You can remove hard drives a guest under tension when the disks are connected to a SCSI controller.

For IDE hard drives that won't work.

And you are right, that the cmdlet Remove-hard drive does not seem to be taken into account.

It will remove only the hard drives when the host is turned off.

But you can use the SDK ReconfigVM_Task method.

    $vmName = "MyVM"
    $hdName = "Hard disk 3"

    $vm = Get-VM $vmName | Get-View
    $tgtdev = $vm.Config.Hardware.Device | where {$_.DeviceInfo.Label -eq $hdName}
    $dev = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualDeviceConfigSpec
    $dev.operation = "remove"
    $dev.device = $tgtdev
    $spec = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec
    $spec.DeviceChange += $dev
    $vm.ReconfigVM($spec)

Sometimes the HDD IDMS2 failure is transient (heads of disc may get out of sync prolonged usage without counters). If this is the case then you can pull the blade from the chassis (only the way to actually turn off the hard drive), wait 30 minutes and then reinstall the blade and try again. If that's not enough then the hard drive has permanent damage, so you will need to contact Cisco TAC and ask them of RMA of the blade.

  • Why my computer says "Windows has detected a hard disk problem", even though it says that the drive works fine in the properties?

    Hello

    I was doing some courses on my computer until this window came on my screen and playback;
"Windows detected a hard disk problem. I immediately went and checked in the properties to see the current status of the disk, and it says "this device is working properly" I am confused and decided to restart my computer. Again, read the error message and it says that the disc was allowed in properties. Every 15 minutes or so, the same error message. I'm running on Windows Vista Edition Home Premium and have had the computer since 2008. Is this a virus? Or - is this just the computer falsely detect a problem?
    Can anyone help please?

    Thank you very much

    Liam

What you see in the drive properties in Device Manager has to do with drivers and the drive configuration, not the real state 'physical' the reader.

First of all, I error side of caution and if sure you have a backup of all your personal files, data, music, photos, contacts, movies, etc., external media (favorite external hard drive).

Run the check disk (chkdsk); I suggest to run with two checked options, difficulty of file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

How to run the check disk at startup in Vista or Windows 7
     http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/67612-check-disk-Chkdsk.html

Many manufacturers of computers and most hard disk manufacturers have diagnostic tools free you can download and run to check the status of your drive. Check on the web sites of their respective support.
