Cannot rename folder

I use windows vista family 32-bit premium, recently I can't change any folder, even if I am the admin of my computer. I tried fd32.reg to fix it but nothing happen, I get no message folder does not exist and I can still move, copy, or delete the folder, but I can't change the name. I also tried the the sys restore, anti-virus etc but nothing seems to work. I would be more than gratefull if anyone can help me with my problem. Thank you.

You already did part of the first steps I would have recommended - good job!

We will check some of your protected system files:

Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Type sfc/scannow, go and let it run.  It will scan and try to correct some of your system files.  If all goes well it will complete with no corruption, he couldn't fix it (if there is such corrouption post here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.

If this does not work, we will make audits more than malware.  While to try Safe Mode (click F8 repeatedly when you start) to run these anti-malware programs. Download, install, and run the following two programs: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html (you must keep these two on your system and run them periodically with your normal AV program).  You can also try a free trial of Pandasoft (www.pandasoft.com).  Before you download pandasoft, uninstall all anti-virus program you currently use (because the installation and execution of two simultaneously can cause conflicts, freezes and all sorts of problems).  Once you have uninstalled your current AV program, download, install, update and scan using Pandasoft.  I think you might be amazed at how much she notes that other software missed.  Once complete, uninstall pandasoft and re - install your current AV program (unless you decide to spend that I did when I tried about 4 years ago).  You can also try the new, free Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx (with the same caveat that only program AV one ALONE can be installed and running on your system at any time). Restart after you have completed all the scans.

If this does not work, you will need to do a repair/system upgrade using the Windows Vista Installation disc authentic (you own or that you can borrow from someone).  Here is the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html as well as the upgrade from an earlier version of the Windows section of the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918884.  Although this will not affect your data, settings or programs, you should always back up your data before you start just be on the safe side.

I hope that the problem will be solved by the SFC command, but if not, the repair/upgrade system will almost certainly work.

Good luck and I hope this works. Lorien - a - MCSE/MCSA/network + / A +.

    You opened an empty catalog.

You can try the following two steps to open the appropriate catalog file.

    1. Use the file-> open recent, open the list of all catalogs
    2. If this does not work, you will need to find the appropriate help for your operating system catalog file and double-click it to open it.

You cannot rename an online redo log file.
You must ensure that it is not "ACTIVE" or "CURRENTS" and drop logfile group rightaway without renaming.

  • Cannot rename a folder

I tried to rename a folder, but windows will not let me. It seems that he thinks that the file is still in use by another program, but all the programs that use it have been closed. When I rename it to all first I get a window with a title "Destination Folder Access Denied". the text of the window is the following: "you must confirm this operation". When I click on continue I get another window with a title: user account control and the text: Windows needs your permission to continue and then the first window appears still once, that at this point, I click 'Try Again' but this window comes up. How can I solve this problem?

    Thank you

It is probably a problem with the file permissions (or one of its parent folders -) even if you are running as an administrator and maybe even if you have created the file yourself.  You need to take full or perhaps even to take possession of the file.  Where is the folder location (it's name from the full path, including the file name) - which could make a difference?  You may need to be an administrator to change the name of this folder and you can be signed as a standard user - if so, log in as an administrator and try again.  What is the name of the programs (name and version) you may open files in this folder - maybe they (maybe a small part of them) launched at startup and can be disabled through Autorun http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx.  Check and make sure that if you think that all of these programs (but the error message is different from what would appear if that were the case, so I don't think that's the problem).

Here are a few tips that will help with permissions and ownership:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.  You may need to go to advanced to check the properties and remove the ones that are inherited (as long as the user name is already included in the permissions main ads with the permissions you want to give it) - but this isn't a common problem, except in system folders (where you shouldn't really be add folders or change anything unless you REALLY know what you're doing - even I was hesitant to work in) these areas, because a mistake can cause you to lose a program or even make you need to re - install the operating system (which you certainly don't want to do).

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product.)  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

The folder is probably locked by your operating system. You must change the folder to have WRITE permission.

  • Why the scheduled task cannot rename?

In Windows 7, after that I put a scheduled task, the task name cannot be renamed.

Does anyone know a trick to rename rather than create a new one?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

    Yes, it's fast & simple.

Export the task in any convenient folder.  [Export is on the right side of the window TS]

It is saved as an xml file.

Switch to the folder in Windows Explorer and rename the xml file with any name you want to change the task.

Import the xml file.  [Import is also on the right side of the window TS]

You will then see a task with any name you call the xml file.

  • Cannot rename or delete email after backup in Windows 7

In the past, after saving an email, I could delete or change its name to right click on the file, choose Rename or delete and then change the name or removing the enamel of the folder.
Now, when I right click on a thunderbird e-mail, these options are no longer on the menu drop down. Is there a setting problem, or Mozilla has changed the drop down menu to be less very user?

I assume that your reference to a standard EML file in the file system (exactly the same as in the venerable Outlook Express). If this is the case your windows problem. The file system and Thunderbird are not closely associated to be create menu entries.

  • Cannot select folder to add bookmark

Opened a new site in a tab. Click on the bookmarks menu, then bookmark this Page. Window opens and I click on the file selection cursor. Displays the list of files, but I can't scroll or select any folder, so I click done and then go to all bookmarks and move the bookmark to the default folder to the one I wanted. Themes change does not seem to solve the problem, so it must be an internal matter of Firefox.

So hard to say. Two things that Safe Mode is you could try which are completely foreign to the modules:

    (1) disable graphics hardware acceleration

You need to restart Firefox for it to take effect, so save any work first (e.g. you compose mail, documents online that you are editing, etc.).

Orange Firefox button or classic menu Tools > Options > advanced

In the mini ' General' tab, uncheck the box for "use hardware acceleration when available.

    (2) clear toolbar customizations

    (i) the folder settings personal (AKA Firefox profile)

Help > troubleshooting information > "view file" button.

(ii) switch back to Firefox and leave the program (for example, Firefox > exit or file > exit)

(iii) wait a few moments for Firefox complete update of the files in the settings folder, then rename localstore.rdf to something else, like localstore - bad.rdf or localstore.old.

(iv) you can restart Firefox now. If that did not help and you want to come back, your customizations, you can delete the localstore.rdf newly created and rename the back of an old man.

  • Cannot rename the folders or files

    Hello

I have an older Toshiba laptop that works under Windows XP. For some time, I can't rename my files or folders. I looked at the properties and noted that they are marked as "read only". I change it and apply it, but then he doesn't remember this setting and goes back to read-only.

When I click on 'File' link 'Rename' is gray and I can't do a right-click on the name so that it can allow the amendment. I do not understand why this should suddenly happen, I've looked through the different menus and settings and you don't see nothing obviously wrong! Help, please!

seems that something in your registry is not clear. In this case I reinstall the operating system and back up your files that cannot be renamed.

Otherwise, if you want to keep the operating system, and then simply click on the following link and read this thread (check the last post...): http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1131736977

    That should help you.

  • iPhoto cannot create folder

Older version of iPhoto to create folders of photo with my uploaded photos. Now, after upgrading I can't do, I copy a picture want to paste in the folder but unfortunately paste is not active and the image can be placed in the folder. What to do, I've uploaded lots of photos from my camera to my Mac Book Air, but cannot create folders and separate them in the order that I used with the old version of iPhoto. Please help me! Cannot work! I upgraded my laptop to fall last year and I am very unhappy because of that.

    Marta

You use iPhoto or Photos?  The iPhoto version which will work with El Capitan is 9.6.1.  We need more info about your situation before we can begin to help:

1 - What are you using, iPhoto or Photos?  What version?

    2. What are your help?

    3. where are these records to which you refer? In the library or on the desktop?

If you have any Photos, this could be useful:

Moments in Photos are new events, i.e. groups of photos sorted by date of catch.

When the iPhoto library has been migrated first to the pictures there is a folder created in the box titled iPhoto events and all migrated iPhoto events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in this folder. Use the Command + Option + S key combination to open the sidebar if it is not already open.

NOTE: it has been reported by several users that if the albums of the event are moved in the iPhoto Library folder in the sidebar, they disappear.  It is not widespread, but several users have reported this problem.  Therefore, if you want to if ensure that you keep these event albums do not transfer out of the iPhoto events folder.

Is there a way to simulate events in pictures.

When new photos are imported in the library of Photos, go to the smart album last import , select all the photos and use the file menu option ➙ New Album or use the key combination command + N.  Call it what you want.  It appears just above the folder to iPhoto events where you can drag it into the events in iPhoto folder

When you click on the folder to iPhoto events, you will get a window simulated of iPhoto events.

Albums and smart albums can be sorted by title, by Date, with the oldest first and by Date with the most recent first.

When I click on the option new/create a new folder, a new folder is created with the name of new folder 1, 2, 3 and so on.

What happens when you try to rename them?

Normally, when you click New > folder new folder is created with the name of "New folder", highlighted within an open box.  See arrow to the left in this picture--> http://vkart.com/basicdreamweaver/images/new-folder.jpg

If you start to type - before anything else - the letters you type will replace 'New folder' under the name of your new folder.

As soon as you click the mouse anywhere outside of this area, the name of the folder "glue".  At this point, you can rename to the usual, by doing a right click on the folder and selecting "Rename" (which gives you the "open box" containing the file name highllighted).
