  • Restore the backup files. Windows Vista Expert needed!

Help!  Recently, a virus wiped out my operating system (Windows Vista).  C drive my PC had literally nothing about it.  Then I got a new VISTA OS installed by a repair shop.  I tried to restore my previous configuration from the backup I had on an external drive, using the Vista Backup & Restore utility.  This "worked" except that he restored the backup files in a separate location on the C drive.  Using the windows Explorer I see all those files that have been restored in a folder named "Thom".

However the new Vista installation has the user name "Thomas" where a configuration complete, (Documents, Favorites, desktop, etc.), was created.  When I connect, it's the config I see (new office, new files and folders for this new user, 'Thomas'.  I want to use the configuration, (files, folders, office computer), under the former name "Thom", not this new one, "Thomas."

I'm afraid to just delete the files under Thomas I'm afraid I'm going to destroy my access to Windows in general.  Currently, I show only a user account in the control panel.  I don't have the 'Thom' user in the folder of the user within the new configuration.  How to delete files and folders under Thomas and use files and folders in the folder named Thom that is located on drive C?

All restoring the backup files are there, they show just a folder on drive C, titled "Thom".  When I connect to my pc it takes me to your desktop created by the new facility.  I need ALL the files in the backup (office, e-mail, files & folders), not the Setup program created by the installation of the new Vista.  I want to be able to connect to windows and have it use the backup files, which are located in this folder named "Thom" which show on the C drive.

Can I simply combine or merge or copy the files in the folder 'Thom', I want to use in the files of the same name, (contacts, documents, Favorites, desktop), which are under the name of "Thomas"?  Can I remove folders under the user 'Thomas' and all it's files and records and hope that windows then takes me in the files that I want to use?

I use my laptop, (HP Pavilion, 64-bit), for business and I'm dead in the water until I can access my old configuration.  I am on day 5 of this disaster and I am desperate, please help!

    Hello Reggie999,

Thanks for the return of the response.  You can move the files/folders in the 'Thom' folder in your new user account 'Thomas '.   Or another option would be to create a new user account and call it what you want, then move the folder in this user account.

If you create a new user account and move your files/folders to this account, it would be nice to delete the user account 'Thomas '.  Just make sure that you have all of the files in the profile that you have recently created/added.

  • Cannot restore the backup to a computer Windows XP files

Works on Windows XP Home Edition. Get a computer back to D drive on the computer a few months ago. Now try to restore some files. I can see the names of files in the wizared of backup/restore window, but as I go through the wizard, and it starts to the advancement of the restore, I get the screen saying "the backup file is found," although I see it right in front of me... help, its my partner representing the files!

    Hi dontknowit,

Thanks for visiting the site of the community of Microsoft Windows XP.   If the files have been saved in a different directory from their original location, you will need to follow these steps:

    (1) open the backup or Restore Wizard.
    2) click Next , and then select restore files and settings.
    3) click Browse to open the Open the backup file box.
    (4) click on Browse and Select the catalog file to dialog box appears.
    (5) select the backup file, and then click Open. (The name and the path to the backup file are now displayed in the dialog box, Open the backup file .)
    6) click OK in the dialog box, Open the Backup file . It is added to the list of backup files in the backup or Restore Wizard.
    (7) in the list on the left, expand the different backup files, and select the drive or folder to display the details of the backup in the right pane.
    (8) select the files or folders to restore from the list on the right.
    9) click Next to view a summary of the restore operation.
    10) click Finish. The Restore in progress dialog box appears.
    11) click the close button in the Restore in progress dialog box.

  • Cannot restore the backup of the iPhone

I just did a DFU restore on my iPhone 5s. I am running Windows 7. I have created a complete PC Backup in iTunes that is listed in the devices list in the preferences.  When I try to restore this backup on the restored phone, that the backup is not available in the drop-down menu of the backups.  Only my iPad is here.  I think that remember me something related to the backup that was created with an older version of iOS.  The phone 9.2, I think it was an upgrade after the DFU.  My iPad has 9.2.1 and I thought they were on the same version.  Anyway, how to restore the backup that is listed in the devices?  I have not either a backup for this phone.  I have to downgrade the phone to the previous version of iOS?  This seems strange to me.  Or maybe that I have to get the phone on instead of 9.2 9.2.1?  Any suggestion would be appreciated.  Thank you.

As far as I know, iOS 9.2.1 is a beta, so maybe it's the cause.

BTW, discuss software in beta on a public forum is not a good idea.

  • Cannot restore the backup folder

I had a problem with my laptop HDD (bad sectors) and I had to format it.
Before formatting it, I saved the profile folder in my external HARD drive.
I tried to restore the profile but it does not work. It only contains the folder "Cache" (12 MB), "mozilla-media-cache" folder (0 KB), folder "OfflineCache" (11KO), folder "startupCache" (1.06 MB), folder "thumbnails" (50 KB), urlclassifier3.sqlite and urlclassifier.pset
    I can't find cookies.sqlite, formhistory.sqlite, etc..
Is it possible to restore all of the folder "cache" or in any other way? My hard drive now low level formatting, in order to restore the old data is impossible.

    Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately, this isn't your profile folder. You saved % LocalAppData%\... but instead, you must have backed up % AppData%\...

Disk cache contains files of web site such as pages, images, and scripts. It is practically useless for the purposes of restoring a backup.

I highly recommend to keep good backups of your data somewhere other than the player in question. Bad sectors are not a good sign and may indicate larger problems to come.

  • Cannot restore the backup to iCloud. Stuck on "remaining time: estimate.

I bought an iPhone 6s a month ago. Saturday, the screen is dead - they said it was a bad card, so they gave me a new. Initially, the restoration of iCloud seemed to work very well, but some of my app data has not loaded up. These data are really important to me, so I thought I could restore the device again and see if it would transfer the data. Now it is stuck on "remaining time: estimated...» "FOREVER.

I tried the hard reset a dozen times. I tried to restore back to factory settings. I tried to load the old backups. No matter how long I leave Restoration - I left it all night - I I found with the message "cannot restore backup iCloud," no matter what backup I use. I talked to Apple Care. No one can understand why it does not work. The guy at the Genius Bar said it might have to do with the fact that my carrier settings were not switched correctly when they gave me the new device. He has updated and was told to wait another day and try again. I did this. It STILL gets stuck on screen and didn't budge!

What could possibly go wrong? Why does a job the first time and now this? The only thing I can think is that it is a problem of iCloud... So frustrating! Help, please!

I backed up my system on an external hard drive to reinstall windows vista home. I was told that vista home edition is unable to restore files, then why allow them to be saved as. I really need to restore my files back. Please help me...

Try to start safe mode and see if you can restore from there.  This was recommended to someone else with the same problem and same error message and it worked - so it can work for you (but no guarantees).

I hope this helps.  If this isn't the case, after return and we will try to find another solution.

  • Cannot restore the backup in iTunes

    Hi all

Hope that you guys are doing well.

I need your help in order to restore my iTunes backup.

It is encrypted and I forgot the password.

Is there a way I can break/crack it.

Please guide me how can I restore my backup now?

    Kind regards

    Himanshu Jadon

Unfortunately, without this password, your data is gone. You have to start over.

If you use iCloud, contact information, etc., must fill up again when you set up the phone, and you can synchronize content back via iTunes.

  • Cannot delete the backup files to external HARD disk

I tried to remove most of the backup sets on an external HARD drive, but always free poster of 465 GB file Explorer only 213 GB.  I chose the drive in "Disk Clean-up, but which showed no files to delete.  I had a virus on the disk scan to see what files have been on this subject, and so there are hundreds of thousands of them, starting by ' $RECYCLE. BIN... ".  Anyone know how to remove these?  Operating system is Windows Vista SP2.

    Hi John

Some of the files that you see (as the trash) are system files and do not need to be deleted.

Before taking other measures, what volume of personal files is on the external hard drive? Did you direct copies of music/photos etc.? -"Free 465 GB only 213 GB" is not quantify how many do you think should be free!

Also - what the drive and were records of backup performed using embedded software of the player?

The best solution here is perhaps simply reformat the drive (after making sure that you have an exact replica of all personal files on your pc that you can then copy to it) but give us a little more detail the first.

    Thank you - R

  • How to restore the backup files of XP to Windows 8?

I have all my XP data backed up using the backup/restore in XP.

How to restore for Windows 8.

(Microsoft: you told me to back up my XP data before the upgrade.) Fact!   You not me is not to use your own installation of backup.  Let programmers design the code yet?)

There is a downloadable utility for windows 7 that will read and extract archives of backup of xp. I don't know if it will work in Win8, but even if it isn't, it may be easier to find a Win7 machine...

Here is the tool and the info from Microsoft:

  • Cannot find the backup files

I'm trying to restore my pc to factory settings, but when I try, it can't seem to find my files back. I have the back of the files in my external hard drive and its connected to my computer, but it doesn't seem to be able to detect it.

    Hello

You restore your system to factory with saved files (photos music, etc.).

Read this on a full backup of the computer to a date and time (different factory settings) and you have Vista Business, Ultimate or enterprise to do so.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-use-Vista-complete-PC-Backup/

If you have one of the Vista editions above and make a backup of the computer about him, here's how to restore a full backup of the computer:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/windows-vista-complete-pc-restore/.

You normally do a restore to the factory settings using the recovery disks provided when buying, or recovery discs that you made, or a recovery partition which was photographed on your hard drive during the manufacturing process.

You normally start the recovery partition recovery process by pressing F10, F11, etc at startup.

Ask the manufacturer for exact instructions.

If the above does not help, explain more in detail what you're trying to do.

    See you soon.
