  Recently, I was struck by a piece of really bad, malicious malware that totally trashed my operating system.  Therefore, as I rebuild my system, I am applying the appropriate safety precautions.  Among the recommendations of Microsoft is to reduce your footprint of security by disabling unnecessary services.  One of these services that I thought I didn't need was Terminal Server services, since it is a way for a person to get to my machine remotely.

  It turns out that, however, other services that I want to use, such as Fast user Switching and window new search utility, depend on the Terminal Server Services.  It makes no sense to me from a safety point of view.  This seems to be a bad design decision, because security trumps utility.

  If Microsoft is listening, I would like to know why you made this decision and you have changed in Windows 7?

  Second, is there a way to always have the Terminal services Server running and at the same time cut access remotely through this service?

  I don't know about the 'new' Windows Search, but what about the fast user switching you ask to run several sessions of Windows when you switch between users (a session for each user connected) and the only way that Windows can do is to act as a quasi Terminal Server, it needs Terminal Server services to run multiple sessions.

  I let my subscription CC expire (while my company treats a new license) and to do in the meantime to CS6. However, I cannot go beyond the message 'Renew your membership' and can't seem to save my copy of CS6 (it will not be displayed as a registered product and I can not add).   After searching the forum, I decided to post that I couldn't find something that relates to my question.  I've never had a problem like this before, nor have I heard of someone having a problem like this before.

  I had a problem where multiple items in Control Panel do not work.  First of all, I thought I might miss an update, but that didn't work either.  I remembered that I have been turned off of the windows activation.  When I go in Panel of-> system and click "you must activate today. Activate Windows now" nothing happens. Nothing at all.

  I first encountered this problem when I was trying to manage my firewall settings: Panel-> control panel all the elements-> Windows Firewall-> authorized programs.  

  Trying to allow a program through Windows Firewall. When I tried to click on "Allow another program" the same thing happened (absolutely nothing happened).  I followed this with trying to turn off my windows firewall completely, expecting the OS to get out the big warning saying that my computer is not protected please reactivate, etc..  I turned both outside the home and private and Public networks OFF and clicked on OK, and once again, nothing happened.

  I don't know how long this problem has affected my computer, because I did not need to change the settings of Windows for at least a couple of months.  Other things I tried to do that it does include:

  Thanks for the replies. I tried the suggestions the two first suggestions J W of Stuart, as well as a defragmentation. After these things, that I tried to run the repair installed and I couldn't do it, he could not see one of my old files. So I had to do a fresh install.   So basically, almost every minute using my computer, I get this window "Interactive Services Detection" and I have no idea where it came from.

  I went into Device Manager and went to network adapters.
  I then expanded this section and under view changed to display hidden items.
  Several hundred elements appears (for most 6to4 adapters) and I deleted all the.
  Then click scan for new hardware.
  And... everything works again! YAY!
