Cannot save tabs on exit

I just upgraded to Firefox 4.0 on the PC under Windows XP and lost the ability to save to the output of the navigation tabs.

I looked at the troubleshooting information in Firefox Support and tried to implement without success. sessionstore.js did not have the js extension. I added the extension, but I still have not a dialog box asking whether to save the tabs.

I do a lot of research and writing, so it's an important feature for me.

One of the changes in Firefox 4: by default Firefox 4 does not display the warning "Save tabs and exit" then to the closure of several tabs, but it can be turned on again by changing some preferences.

  • Record of the tabs was not removed from Firefox 4, but it works a little differently.

    • By default, Firefox 4 will not ask to save tabs, but instead it will always save your tabs in the output. You can restore the next time by selecting "Restore previous Session" in the history menu, or by pressing the button restore Firefox's default homepage.
    • Note: This was a decision by the developers. On this forum, we are all volunteers without compensation here to help other users. Develop them and employees of Mozilla/Firefox rarely, if ever visit here.

Also, make sure that you erase not the 'browsing history' when you use clear recent history:

To display the message "save tabs and exit" when closing multiple tabs, you can do the following:

  1. Type of topic: config in the URL/address bar and press the Enter key
  2. Accept the warning message (promise to be careful)
  3. Open the preferences/list page
  4. Filter = browser.tabs.warnOnClose
  5. If its value is set to false, double-click top (in the lower panel) to toggle its value to true
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the 3 following preferences also:
    • browser.warnOnQuit
    • browser.warnOnRestart
    • browser.showQuitWarning
  7. See:

You must update the following plugins:

  • Shockwave Flash 10.2 r152
  • Next-generation Java plug-in 1.6.0_23 for Mozilla browsers
  1. Check your plugin versions on one of the following links:

  • Update the Flash plugin to the latest version.
    • Download and SAVE to your desktop, so you can find the Setup program later
    • If you do not have the current version, click on the "Player Download Center" link on the 'download and information' or 'Download manual installers' below
    • Once the download is complete, exit Firefox
    • Click on the installer, you just download and install
      • Windows 7 and Vista: will need to right click on the installer and choose 'run as administrator '.
    • Launch Firefox and recheck your version or up to the download link below to test the installation
    • Download and information: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
      • Use Firefox to go to the site above to update the Firefox plugin (will also install the plugin for most other browsers, except IE)
      • Use IE to go to the site above to update the ActiveX to IE
    • Download manual installers.
  • Update the Java plugin to the latest version.
  • After updating to the current version 1.6.0.24 Java (see above), you must remove older versions of Java Console in your Extensions (you can see them in: Firefox button > Modules > Extensions OR tools > Modules > Extensions if you use the Menu bar instead of the Firefox button). Link to the mode of removal are lower. You currently have these older versions:

    • True of Java Console 6.0.12 {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0012-ABCDEFFEDCBA}
    • True of Java Console 6.0.13 {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0013-ABCDEFFEDCBA}
    • True of Java Console 6.0.14 {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0014-ABCDEFFEDCBA}
    • True of Java Console 6.0.15 {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0015-ABCDEFFEDCBA}
    • True of Java Console 6.0.17 {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0017-ABCDEFFEDCBA}
    • True of Java Console 6.0.19 {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0019-ABCDEFFEDCBA}
    • True of Java Console 6.0.20 {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0020-ABCDEFFEDCBA}

    Let alone real Console Java 6.0.24 {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0024-ABCDEFFEDCBA}; You can disable in the Extensions if you are not a developer/Java programmer.

      I want the default to be ALWAYS SAVE TABS ON EXIT. This sale option, an easy place to find, like the TOOLS / OPTIONS / TABS section. It seems that this has been an ongoing problem for several versions of FIREFOX. I had it available in earlier versions, but it isn't here now. Why would you take it?

      Nothing has changed in this area of Firefox 4, so if you have found solutions for older versions you should check out them.

      In any case it seems that you want your old tabs restored, without any indication, and it is more likely that you have changed your option, if you think that it comes to be modified in version 14. • FF4b10 don't ask to save tabs on exit more

      Since the update of FF4b9 beta10 FF do not ask more to save tabs open to the output. Simply, it closes at the same time and does not restore my tabs at the next startup. Is there a change in behavior or adjustment, which has changed its default value or is it just a bug in beta10? All versions of FF4 to Beta9 has worked well.

      Warning message preferences have been set to false by default in current versions of Firefox 4 beta. (Change of silly IMO.)

      You can set the preferences of warning on the subject: config page to true via the context menu or toggle with a double click of the left.

    • How to restore the ability to choose whether to save tabs on exit (I need this abandoned feature.

      On my laptop, I no longer get a choice, the closing of Firefox, if to save the tabs for the next time that I open Firefox.

      I use 4 different computers. It is impossible to remember the computer on which I want to restore a previous session, then the choice of restoration when I start any computer is available doesn't help, compared to the old system, which allowed me to choose to exit, when I could clearly see if I had a session that was to be preserved.

      The intention was that you should / could use history ('Alt + S') > restore previous session after bringing to the top of Firefox.

      But this means that you must remember to do.

      You can still have the old behavior and regardless of how you answer at the end of the session, you can still get back your previous session.

      One of the changes in Firefox 4: by default Firefox 4 does not display the warning "Save tabs and exit" then to the closure of several tabs, but it can be turned on again by changing some preferences.

      Things to check:

      3. Make sure that you are not in private browsing mode or in private browsing mode permanent:

      What is the start setting?

      Tools > Options > general > startup: 'when Firefox starts '.

      In Firefox 3, you don't get popup "Save and quit" dialog box if you choose Tools > Options > general > startup: "When Firefox starts": "show my windows and tabs from last time '.

      If this option is selected then your pages will be already reopened the next time.

      To get this pop up dialog box, select one of the other options (display my home page, display a blank page).

      You can reset the preferences of warning on the subject: the configuration via the context menu page.

      browser.tabs.warnOnClose , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries

    • Since the installation of 4.0.1 I can't do a right-click on the icon in my taskbar and have Firefox give me the option "close and save" tabs. Only let's me know, I'm about to close several tabs. How to make 'save & close' return?

      Before installing 4.0.1 I could right click on the Firefox icon in the task bar of my computer and press on the window. He would then give me the option to "save the tabs and exit" or "close all tabs".
      Now he comes and tells me I'm going to close several tabs.

      It was convenient to be able to close Firefox and open it with all the tabs in place. There is nothing more annoying than to have several tabs lost because your computer has is an update of the day overnight and restarted. It is also useful when you want to run a tun - up or cleaner who asked that closing your browser for best results.

      How to make 'save and exit' return?

      Thank you

      Firefox stores now always the old session, and you can access it by going to the history menu and selecting "restore previous Session."

      If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned on again by changing some preferences.

      1. Type of topic: config in the address bar and press on enter
      2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
      3. Find browser.tabs.warnOnClosepreference, if its value is set to false, double-click on it to change its value to true
      4. Repeat this for 3 preferences browser.warnOnQuit, the browser.warnOnRestart and the browser.showQuitWarning

      If you always open the last set of tabs, another approach is the following:

      1. Click on the orange button Firefox, then select options to open the options window
      2. Go to the general Panel
      3. Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "show my windows and tabs from last time '.
    • Is there a way to close Firefox 4 and save tabs as there was in earlier versions?

      Previous versions of Firefox, when you went to close the window, she appeared on a window with options. I think they were saving tablets, Close Tabs and cancel. The new version, Firefox 4, is no longer allows you to save your tabs. Is there another way to close Firefox and save the tabs?

      Yes, Firefox 4 will now always save your tabs, and you can restore the next time by selecting "Restore previous Session" in the history menu, or press the big restore button on the default Firefox homepage.

      If you want Firefox to ask to save tabs when you exit (as in previous versions), you can do that by typing ' subject: config "in the address bar and change some settings: http://blog.zpao.com/post/3174360617/about-that-quit-dialog
