Cannot select "Wake on Lan" option in Vista - Qosmio G20

Hello

If I go to Device Mgr/network/IntelPro100VE/properties/adapter management, I can't check the box for "allow this device to wake the computer". The box is empty and greyed out. (The Qosmio is connected to a LAN at home).

1 could someone with a G20 and Vista please check if they have the same properties dialog box and let me know?

2 - does anyone know what I have to do to make this check box select?

Thanks in advance!

D

Hey Buddy,

Unfortunately I have Don t have a Qosmio like yours, so I can't check it out. :)
But I can give you a little tip:
have you looked in the bios? Usually, you can enable the WOL in the bios options will be available Windows.

Check this and tell me if you have achieved some success. ;)

Welcome them

Wake on LAN - power management

On my Media Center PC, I am unable to use Wake on LAN unless "allow this computer to turn off the device to save power" is checked (in the tab power management of the adapter in the Device Manager). "Allow this device to wake the computer" and 'Allow only a magic packet wake the computer' is checked, but become grayed out when "allow this computer to turn off the device...". ' is not checked.

The problem is, Wake On Lan doesn't work unless the computer has been asleep for a short period of time. If I try to activate the computer using WOL after about 10 minutes, he never wake. I guess that's because "Allow this computer to turn off the device to save power" is checked, the machine is before turning off the network adapter.

Is it possible to force the computer to disable the NETWORK card, but would retain the capability of WOL? Or ensure you THAT WOL works little regardless of how long the PC has been asleep?

The machine is a Windows 7 PC with a Nvidia nforce network controller.

By the way, I have a laptop on the same cable network that has all three items checked in the tab for its NIC device power management, and this machine can be awake at all times using WOL, regardless of how long he has been asleep, this issue must therefore be with the configuration of the Media Center computer.

I would be really grateful for any suggestion, I spent a lot of time trying to get this to work!

    Hello

If the systems are only a sleep you don't need a magic packet.

If computers are set to wake on any network traffic all Ping or arp will wake them up.

For this configuration, it is best to disable the saving of NIC.

There may be some variations on where is the energy saving setting.

  • Satellite C660 - how to activate and use WAKE ON LAN?

    Hi all

Previously, I posted asking about the use of Wake on Wireless LAN and was very helpfully informed that it was impossible, so I started to explore the Wake ON LAN option.

I have a Toshiba C660 PSC0LE-00500JEN and helped Wake ON LAN in the BIOS and have connected a LAN cable between my router and the laptop, which recognize each other, if the cable looks ok.

However, if I use an app to WAKE ON LAN on my android, or I use a site online "wake on lan via browser ', the laptop stay asleep.

    Can someone advise?

    Thank you

    James

    Hello

Wake Up on Lan option would work if send you a magic packet to the remote machine (laptop).

I have no experience using the Android app, who knows if it works properly

Try the other method. For example, using software such as wake on Lan for Windows (GUI) graphical user Interface

Google for it to download this software.

In addition, go to the device-> LAN card Manager-> properties-> Advanced tab and check here if the WOL is activated too

  • Cannot Wake-on-LAN none of the 790s OptiPlex

We have several years of OptiPlex 790 in our environment. They all have the Intel 82579LM Gigabit NIC installed. When these devices are turned off, the led "Good link" on the card NETWORK does not, and I can't wake the machines via WOL.

Here's what I did on all machines:

    • Consistent Wake-on-LAN in the BIOS
    • Tried every revision of BIOS from A05 to A11 (confirming that WOL is set to enabled after every update)
    • Installed the latest drivers for NETWORK card (both on the site of Dell and the Intel site OEM drivers)
    • With version 11.15.16.0 of the OEM Intel NIC driver installed, activated "Wake on Magic Packet", "Wake on Magic Packet of power off of the State", "Wake on Link" and "Wake on Pattern Match" in the power management tab.
All other OptiPlex models in our environment are waking up very well (including machines in the same subnet and physical location as these years 790). Anyone run into this or found a solution? Thank you.

If hibernation mode is enable WOL will not work. Must disable Deep Sleep in the BIOS if you want to use WOL

  • Wake on LAN support

ESXi 4 is installed on a system with a dual port Intel NIC and configured to use vmnic0 to vSwitch0, supporting LAN traffic for virtual machines and management for VMkernel traffic.  vmnic1 is associated with vSwitch1 and is exclusively used for iSCSI traffic.  vSphere Client shows that Wake on Lan is supported for vmnic0 but not vmnic1.  I understand that some Intel adapters do support WoL on port A, so this is not really surprising.

Given that all guest virtual machines use vmnic0, which has the support of WoL, I assumed that guests can receive support WoL.  What I have found however is that while the option 'Allow this device to wake the computer from sleep mode' can be selected tab in the power management of the properties of the network adapter (Intel Pro/1000 MT) comments on WIndows 2003 server, it cannot be defined for Vista or Windows Server 2008 SMV.  The option is grayed out in the latter two VMS and option notes indicate that the port does not support Wake on Lan.

Is there something in the settings of the virtual machine that I'm missing?

    Thank you

    Scott

Hi Scott, welcome to the forums of the VMware community.  What kind of NIC you selected for virtual machines?

Not all operating systems invited support Wake on LAN. Only the following types of NIC supported Wake

    on LAN:

    soft n (VMware tools required).

    vmxnet n

    n Enhanced vmxnet

    vmxnet n 3

Options are disabled if they are not supported.

  • Turn off Wake on LAN

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion 'g6' series laptop PC with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with a Wi - Fi connection at home.  I read there is a 'Wake on LAN' function and you want to make sure that it is (disabled).  What I read, it should be disabled in the BIOS (and) of the operating system.  However, when I enter the F2 BIOS, (HP Advanced System Diagnostics, version 4.1.0.0) there is a menu option displayed, but no option to change this feature of "Wake on LAN". In fact, it isn't even mentioned.

The best that I was able to accomplish so far is by going to control panel, system, Manager of devices, and then click "Ralink RT5390 802.11 b/g/n WiFi Adapter Properties," and then by selecting the "Power management" tab, and clearing the check box of the "allow this device to wake the computer."

I also went to the "Realtek PCIe Controller Properties family" and not the "allow this device to wake the computer."

Finally, I also went to Panel/All Control Panel Items/system configuration and in the tab "Remote" system, unchecked option "Remote support" properties and sub remote desktop on the same tab, selected the option button "don't allow connections to this computer".

The questions are: 1) did I do everything possible to (keep) all unauthorized, remote access and 2) should I be concerned about this feature of "wake-on-LAN" if she does not seem to be present in my BIOS?

    Thanks, Terry

    Hello again Terry57.

Sorry for the delay in my response.  I was out of the office.

Which is indeed sound as the feature you're looking for.  Before today, I had never heard called talk anything else.

Be sure to disable the feature within the operating system as well in accordance with the following instructions.

    Have a wonderful day!

Wake-up NIC is not disabled in the BIOS, if done, I doubt that it is this option.

Go to the BOOT options in the BIOS.

Uncheck the option of network (PXE) boot.

Then go to the Options of integrated device.

Value Wake On LAN for a hard driver start.

  • Wake On Lan for Pavilion 500-046

I have been using Wake On Lan on my other computers to wake up computers on my network that have been closed using the Windows 7 shutdown command. This is a very useful feature for me, and I would like to make it work on my computer HP Pavilion Desk Top with Qualcomm AR8161 PCI - E Gigabit Ethernet control. The Bios on the 500-046 has this option, and I put it to ACTIVATE. I am running Windows 8.1 update on the Pavilion. I, moreover, looked at other possible power in Device Manager settings, but I'm not having any luck getting it works. There is absolutely no response from the Pavilion when a wake on LAN signal is sent. A similar question has been posted by me a few days there are no answers. Maybe and Expert could give it a whirl. Thanks for any help.

    Hello fredkoch3,

I read your post about how you have problems to wake on LAN issues with your desktop computer, and I'd be happy to guide you to a resolution!

To start, I recommend that you follow this thread on ' Wake on LAN ' (WOL) behavior in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. This should help explain how (WOL) is used for Windows compared to Windows 7 8.1.

To find out if your system can be configured for Wake on Lan, I suggest a command "powercfg' running on your computer. This will check the power management features available. To do this, please follow the steps in the following procedure:

    1. Press and hold the Windows key and the R button simultaneously
    2. Type the word cmd in the box provided
    3. In the command prompt window, type the command "powercfg - availablesleepstates.
    4. Here you can compare the available sleep States using the document States supply system to see if (WOL) is available.

Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your response!

  • Wake On Lan doesn't work 640 ProBook

    Hello!

I am trying to configure wake on LAN on laptop ProBook 640 G1, but it does not work

I configured the BIOS settings and also tried different magic packet WOL tools with no luck. I have already updated the BIOS to the latest available version. Also I tried various BIOS settings, but it simply doesn't.

I read the various messages with some advice (as configuration options of Windows drivers, also put my laptop in standby mode, the standby modes available with the POWERCFG command verification) but still I can't make it work.

I tested my network using a utility to check if my phone is received the magic packet and network is fine.

I already work with Wake On LAN function in another HP laptop and it works fine. The problem is with this new model (I have 2 new laptops and it does not work in any of them).

    Hope someone can help me.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hello!

    I solved my problem.

The origin of the problem is the way in which Windows 8 turns off your computer.

If I run the "shutdown-s" command to CMD then I can start my computer with magic packet WOL.

But if I use the option stop with the mouse, then I can't.

I had to disable the hybrid boot in my windows, so it's no more a problem. I found there is a command to do this:

    ' bcdedit/set disabledynamictick Yes.

    Now it works fine.
