  I'm having a problem with one of the users on my setup of server companies. She is unable to set a default printer and cannot print from Excel 2010 to all. However, while on the terminal even when I login as administrator, everything works perfectly. I tried to set a default value manually through the registry, I tried all of the scripts that I can find, I tried to uninstall and reinstall the printers. I don't know where to go from here. Any advice?

  Do you mean the configuration of individual computers with the printer on the network users, or a computer with multiple users?

  You have administrative rights on the computer to make changes?

  What is the name and the product number of your printer? How can I find my model number or product number?

• OfficeJet 6700 Premium error 0 x 00000709 cannot set the default printer

  I bought my new HP Officejet 6700 Premium on February 1, 2013. I use a HP Pavilion dm4 laptop under Windows 7 Home Premium. The installation seems to give no problem. However I'm unable to set the default printer and have the error message 0 x 00000709. Excel, Adobe, Outlook does not allow me to print.

  I spoke to the HP printer Department February 1st and they sent me some software of diagnosis which I sent back. I called again on 6 February and was told my problem was always open and they were trying to reproduce the problem (it appears on the net without a patch work). It is now February 10, and I hope the good people of HP to recall with a solution soon. You try to run a small business with no printer is not ideal.

  Someone at - it else ecountered this problem, and you have a solution.

  I ran HP utility, installed uninstalled the driver etc etc etc.

  I seem to have fixed the problem by changing in the registry keys. If HP wants a donation to charity, I would be happy to provide it to them :-)

  Cannot set any printer as the default printer. An error message appears, error 0 X 00000709. I have tried to use a guide on the Forums, on the Windows system registry, still does not work. And I couldn't print anything using the PDF, but Words of Microsoft Excel and Notepad are able to print.   I have Windows 7. I want to set the printer, so it displays default landscape of Notepad. I've tried three different printers and nothing. I go to the windows printer properties and set them in landscape mode.  There are two places to change, a Preferences tab and a default Advanced tab and I did both. When I print from Notepad they always print portrait. In Notepad, I can make them print landscape, but I have to change it every time. So, I want the default to be the landscape.   My client found their solution. You had to install an older version of the drivers and then the printer would stay in landscape mode.

• "set as default printer" is not an option

  My default printer some how was chosen as OneNote 2007.  I tried to change my default printer to the one I want, but it won't allow me.  I clicked on the printer that I want to and it gives me an accurate list options but not "set as default printer".  Please help me fix this because I can't print until this problem is corrected.

  Try right click on the printer you want to sometimes - it seems there are two menus and it seems random as it appears.  One contains the option, the other does not.  Try several times - and then set it aside and try again.  I think at some point, you will get the correct menu and be able to make the change.

  In the meantime, certainlly you can print.  Just use the file / print option where you select the printer and choose the one you want to print on (you cannot use the "print" button, but you will still be able to print).
