Cannot set a primary monitor with 2 monitors

OK, here's the situation. I have two monitors, a 22 "widesceen LED and a 32" LCD screen, I have the smallest monitor connected via DVI and the cotyledon connected via HDMI. Whenever I plug the big one HDMI, he succeeded to the main screen and does not allow me to make the smaller monitor the primary monitor. This is because the primary monitor option is grayed out and I can't check it. So far, I am aware of the vista updates and also up-to-date with the graphics drivers. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Venom,

Method 1

I suggest you to check if the value for both monitors screen resolution are the same. You can try to set the same for both monitors screen resolution and check if it works very well. Access the link below and follow the steps to change the screen resolution.

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-your-screen-resolution

Also access the link below to learn more about the use of multiple monitors.

Method 2

If the steps above do not help, you may contact the manufacturer of the computer and check with the BIOS to display settings and adjust it accordingly.

NOTE: Changing the BIOS / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from configuration can resolved BIOS/CMOS settings. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

I hope this helps. Let us know the results.

Thank you and best regards,

  • Cannot set default Acrobat 'open with' in Windows 7

Since the installation of CD player, I couldn't set Acrobat XI as the default program to open pdf files. I do the 'open with' for each file, and given that I create materials, I almost always want to open with the complete program. Microsoft instructions do not work. I can't find out how to reconfigure the Acrobat products to replace the default player. If someone has an answer, I'd love to hear it. Otherwise, I'll have to uninstall the CD player.

  • Cannot use external monitor as primary monitor with Portege M400

I'm unable to use the extended feature deasktop with my m400. I installed the latest video drivers. When I go to the driver intel graphics media accelerator under display properties and choose extended Office I can't use my external monitor as the primary monitor.

The same thing on my satellite.
I m not able to activate the device primary option on the external monitor.
Of course, I m able to use the extended desktop and other options of the external monitor option but the parameters of the primary device for external monitor are gray.

So I think that it of not possible to do something like that. As mentioned above, it could be a technical limitation.

  • Cannot set external monitor like main window on T500

How can I configure my external monitor as the main in Vista window when it is connected to the docking station DVI port mini?
"My problem is that the check box ' this is my main monitor" is always disabled after having extended my desktop to monitor 4.

The external monitor is loaded as screen 4. (Screen 3 is the T500 and 1 & 2 is assigned to the internal Intel screen card that is not in use)

    Thank you

Vista because of grief in this regard and we have never seen a good answer about why.

The good news is the utility Thinkpad Presentation Director - fire just that upward and step through the wizard. It will allow you to set up your monitors as you wish and save it as a profile. In most of the situations that the configuration will be available when anchor you, but worst case are you just select the profile of the PD icon in the task bar (or the value of the checkbox to automatically apply whenever the laptop is connected).

I want to emphasize however that we have to make these options - the great victory is the ability to put primary watching for whatever reason Microsoft has grayed out in regular checkups.

    Best,

    Kevin

P.S. If you really don't want to see the configuration of four screens and that you will not use the switchable graphics in the BIOS you can set discrete graphics (only) display rather than switchable. You will still likely PD to define primary/Main.

PPS you should also be able to do through the ATI Catalyst Control Center, but in some cases that makes you stop more than the PD Assistant.

    Hello

Here's how you can do this:
    a. right-click on an empty space on the desktop and click on the screen resolution.
    b. at the top, you will see the current main screen with the Start Menu in the lower left.
NOTE: If you are unsure which monitor who is, then click on the button to display the number on the screen to match with identity.
    c. at the top, click on the numbered display device (ex: monitor, projector or TV HDMI) you want to make your primary display to have its established border highlight.
    d. check the brand that my hand display and click OK to apply.
NOTE: You will notice that when you check this box, the Menu start now we in this numbered display.

  • Primary monitor does not work after last nights updated

    • I'm running Ultimate.
    • I have two monitors.
    • My primary monitor does not work.
    • I checked the VGA cables. This isn't the issue.
    • Edit: Just realized that my main monitor is a monitor "Westinghouse". -Who is a "Plug-in-and-play" monitor, there are no drivers.
    • Reinstalled the ATI drivers, did nothing.
    • SYSTEM RESTORED, still nothing.

I ran the most recent update for final last night, then fell asleep. Everything worked before that date, but when I went to turn on my computer this morning, only my HP [my second monitor.] w17e worked. He said he was installing updates from last night, so I had no problem with him and thought it might show something once like this on the login screen.

Once that has happened to the login screen, it showed it for a fraction of a second before disappearing. I entered my password and it connected as usual. After login, I turned off my monitor, and then back on, and it showed my normal desktop for a moment, [enough for me to close two-three programs] before she returned empty.

    Hello

I recommend you to update the graphics drivers and see if it makes a difference. You must be logged on as administrator to perform these steps.

    1. open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, click on the Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. in Device Manager, locate the graphics card and then double-click the device name.
    3. click Driver tab, then click on set to update driver and follow the instructions.

Now, try to follow the link provided to update a hardware driver that is not working properly and check the question below.

  • Two monitors - I can't change "use this device as the primary monitor" because both are grayed.

I just put my laptop (1) and (2) monitor to use together.  I like being a primary monitor (2) would monitor the "use this device as the primary monitor' however are grayed out.  I tried several things but cannot get to work.  Any suggestions? I am on Windows 7

    Hello, Olivia,.

It depends on how you have the monitor Setup.

You can get this option only when you select extend monitor instead of select two copies.

If you want to set primary and secondary monitors, you must select the Extend monitors.

  • The top of the window disappeared. Cannot minimize and two monitors no longer work

Hello! It's really stupid, but from what I understand, I must have pressed a shortcut to something because now the top of my window disappeared (you know, the part "minimize", "maximize" and "Close" buttons). I found an explanation in the face of the same problem with illustrator, and the guy has resolved:

"In the Illustrator menu bar, click"Window", then"framework of Application". It seems that the unchecked option will leave the application 'attached' to your primary monitor. Audit, he will place the application in a window of 'free form' that you are free to move. »

This article describes my problem and and provides a solution, but I can't seem to find the setting of "application framework" in first CC. Help, please! Strange how dual monitors no longer work, despite their work earlier today, so I assumed that my window is maximized touched it. Don't know what shortcut, I pressed. I tried to reset the workspace.

    Thank you!

ALT + space, then "maximize" worked. Seen that option earlier, but only tried the option reduce...

Monitors to work as it should.

Thank you much for the help!

  • How to set up two monitors on Envy 700-210

    Greetings,

You want to set up two monitors on a stock like 700-210. A monitor will be a 27xi of HP with DVI and the other is a Dell with VGA.

    How it accomplishes this feat?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Please first try the following connection:

1 VGA monitor to the VGA port

    2. the other monitor to the DVI port

The video chip on your computer is not really good for both monitors. You may need to buy a better video card. Specifications:

    Kind regards.

  • Setting up dual monitor

I have a brand new out of the box H8 1360 T and I'l want to set up two monitors. So far, although there are several DVI ports on the machine, I was able to get a single monitor to work (off the coast of the graphics card as the difference for internal ports).

    Suggestions?

I was unable to find a LG Flatron W2252DQ but a LG Flatron W2252TQ happens instead. According to the specifications of the W2252TQ monitor, it takes in charge the VGA and DVI - D inputs. Please confirm the model number and look at the back of the monitor for the input connections. Post back with more details.

It seems that the HP vs19c only supports a VGA connection.

If the information above is correct, you can use the adapter DVI / VGA port on rear #4 connect the HP vs19c monitor and buying a DVI - D cable to connect the computer to the monitor LG Flatron W2252TQ on port rear #3.

    Please send Bravo

  • Screen saver shows on my secondary screen not my primary monitor.

I have two monitors, my first is 1920 X 1080, and the secondary is 1280 X 720.  The slideshow of pictures or other screensavers that run only on a single monitor are running, they are displayed on the secondary monitor and not the primary monitor (part of the photo in the testament of photo slideshow on your knees on the primary monitor).  I would have the screensaver shown on the main screen, which is what I have that windows does by default, but I can't find any settings to change that.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium X 64, and he did it with my ATI Radeon 3870 and 5870.  Here's some screenshots so you can see what I mean.

  • I'm trying to set up two monitors

I'm trying to set up two monitors on my computer. Currently, I use XP. I have two monitors showing the same on both. I would like to be able to use the second screen to only email or a spreadsheet. Surely I'm missing some instruction. I use two monitors with a VGA splitter.

I'm sure that when you use a separator, you won't be able to use the extended desktop mode.
