Cannot set the 'power options' in the Power Options dialog box.  There is no saved power scheme and boxes for standby, turn off hard drive, hibernation, etc. are all dark and I cannot choose one of them.  Help me if you can.

  • PC goes mode sleep when the Power Options are set for ever, etc. also can not wake up

Hi, I read the other posts on this topic, but my problem seems a little different.

I am running Windows 7 on a Dell desktop computer and I tried to run chkdsk and also the Dell diagnostics that I have some problems hard drive; However, it gets so far and the pc goes into mode 'sleep' causing me even worse problems that chkdsk/diagnoses are halfway through a volume. The pc has done this on and off tension for awhile, but hopefully not when something critical is running, even if it is a nuisance.  I did all the steps recommended here as ensure my Power Options are set, etc., but he always does.

In addition, when the pc goes to sleep, I can't wake him up by pressing the power button or any key on the keyboard.

I've been in contact with Dell and they said that it's a software problem.

Someone can suggest something else I can do (stop) the computer mode 'sleep' and also how to wake him.

    Thank you.

I'm sorry for the late reply.

As you mentioned in your previous post, you wanted to know how to boot from the disc, I've provided the steps how to boot from the disc on my previous post. However, you can try to repair your windows using DVD for Windows 7 backup and check.

You can see this Microsoft article below that will help you fix Windows 7.

Make sure you have no management utility of the power of the machine to a PC running.  Your symptoms resembles those to have the utility Samsung "Fast start" running - find on the start menu, all programs & open, and then click the Disable setting [or simply uninstall it as it doesn't do anything for you that you can't do it yourself].

There is a utility of same useless in many PC Sony, but I don't know his name.  Browse all all programs with Sony records in their title.  Read the manual or check on their Web site.

  • Office Won power options' don't hold

Win7 Home Premium, SP1; Dell desktop

I have seen several articles in the Knowledge Base with reference to problems with food Options in Vista and Windows 7. I even offered a patch to download. I thought I had my favorites all the but cannot find the fix. Tried to look for the basis of knowledge once again, but does not use the correct search terms. Apparently, most of the problems occur with laptops, etc. that run on batteries, but mine is a desktop computer. I don't care if my PC will sleep or not, but really want my monitor turns off after 10 or 15 minutes. After you set the Power Options, it will work a couple of times - the monitor turns off and the drive goes to sleep - but then it stops working. Anyone have all the solutions or know how to find one in the Knowledge Base?

I would like suggestions. Thank you!

I think you are saying that you put in the power settings do not work after a few uses, i.e. the display & hard disk turn off at the time you told them in the beginning, but then quit to do what they are asked at a later stage.

However, since you have now confirmed, the correct settings are still displayed in correctly in the advanced power management settings.

In this case then I agree that the link I gave you is not appropriate.

I think that the first no account required to these symptoms, should be check the updated drivers.

Go to Control Panel, [view by - small icons, if necessary], right click on the Device Manager & select run as Admin.

Make sure that you have an internet connection.

Select your screen, right click and select Update driver.

Select your hard drive, right click and select Update driver.

You can also run the Control Panel, Troubleshooting, Troubleshooting of power , but everything he has ever done for me, it is arguing the draw on how long I set myself until my screen turns off.  It is also at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Power-troubleshooter

I don't think that powercfg will help you a lot.  If you use it just to declare a list of properties so you can manually check through the list to see if expected parameters are saved correctly.  I think they will be your comments.

Make sure that you are in the power plan you're investigating and then enter in a command prompt:

    powercfg - qh >yourusername\ThisPlanProperties.txt C:\Users\

Repeat this to give you something to compare to.  Then switch to the balanced power management & enter in a command prompt: -.

    powercfg - qh >yourusername\BalancedPlanProperties.txt C:\Users\

[in addition, the argument - q is documented but qh - isn't; - qh just made sure the 'hidden' properties are included in the output of powercfg.]

Open text files & paste each in a column of a worksheet calculation, so you can see them side by side [you may need to insert a few cells here & it just well aligned].  Then look through them the entries you want and look through the properties of the plans using the normal Control Panel, power, management settings advanced road as well to help you understand what each one is.

To understand better entries, you can also refer to PMPolicy_Windows.docx, see the power policy Configuration and deployment in Windows.  This document will make you want to tear your hair out if you look now, but will make more sense once you've seen the list of properties produced by powercfg.

  • Satellite A30 - cannot set up the binding wireless modem

    Hello
I have a satellite a30. I just upgraded to broadband and cannot configure the WiFi wizzard. the modem is working perfectly thanks to threads, but cannot set up wireless despite my efforts! Please can someone help?
    see you soon
    Claire

    Hello

    What's the problem?
You are not able to see the thread or what?

Are you sure of the laptop and built-in wireless network card?

Remember that the WiFi card is optional on the Satellite A30 and not all models includes the Wlan miniPCI card
    Thanks for posting more details!

    PS; If the laptop supports a WLan card internal, you should check only that steps;

-Check if the WLan adapter is enabled on the laptop. Activate the switch on the side of the laptop and the FN + F8 key combination!
-Check if the windows own WLan configuration is marked
-Be sure that you use the right WLan encryption and whether encryption is supported by WLan modem (router) and wireless network card
-Check if the standard 802.11 WiFi, B or G is accompanied by WLan modem (router) and wireless network card
-Make sure that the router MAC filtering option has been disabled!

As you can see all of these options are important to connect to the wireless LAN.

  • Error: The installer cannot set Windows XP required configuration information during the upgrade to Windows XP Home SP3 of Windows XP Pro.

Original title: OEM Windows XP Home SP3 update XP Pro

Here is a compilation of the messages from another forum regarding
    My problem:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

I'm trying to upgrade a Windows XP Home Sp3 OEM system to
Windows XP Pro. (There are a few Pro features
that are not available in the House I now need: (1) the files offline and
    (2) an add-on available for free to Onenote 2007, Top2onenote, requires a Pro).
I don't want a clean install, but an upgrade. I bought a Windows XP Pro
Upgrade CD on Ebay that was Windows XP Pro
Gold (v2002). I'm sure that's true for the following reasons:

It has been listed as an upgrade, but the CD is not labeled "Upgrade".
It seems very authentic with all Microsoft holography.
He came in the standard package of Windows XP (without box),
    and it was sealed.
The name of volume for the CD is WXPFPP_EN. The Internet,.
It is the retail of Windows XP Pro RTM (gold)!

Here are things I tried initially.

    (1) I tried to upgrade to Pro from the purchased CD. It is immediately
has refused to upgrade indicating the upgrade OS (Pro) is older than the
    installed OS (home)...

    (2) I read about "slipstreaming". "Slipstreaming" allows to integrate
a service pack with an earlier version of the operating system. I created a
upgrade XP Pro SP3 with Nlite slipstreamed CD image (and
Autostreamer later, but it made no difference) from the purchased CD
    and a file containing SP3.

After you burn the CD and start the upgrade
    (Windows installation), the upgrade process
    product through "information collection."
"Dynamic update" and "Preparation of Installation" with
no problems. My computer restarted and returned to
"Installation preparation". A progress bar called 'Progress '.
quickly filled to about 90% and the hanging system
at that time there for about 15 minutes.
Then, I got the following error message:

Setup cannot set the required Windows XP configuration
information. This indicates an internal Setup error.

This is where I am stuck. I had to leave the installation at this point.
My drive is starts raining and I had to restore a backup.

    (3) just for the heck of it, I formatted my hard drive and
reinstalled my original OEM XP Home SP3 OS (no clean up, no user file).
I immediately used my XP CD slipstreamed Pro to try one
upgrade to XP Pro and IT WORKED! I need to find out why the
properly clean XP Home OS upgraded to XP Pro but my pre-existing
(with the files users, drivers, etc..) XP Home OS does not level
    successfully to XP Pro.
    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Another post:

Yet once, today, I installed a new copy of OEM Windows XP Home Sp3.
I continue with installation of all the essential and the add-on
pilots (essentially all my original version). Then, I
set up a network connection and firewall. With this configuration,.
I ran the Pro XP slipstreamed SP3 CD. The upgrade to XP Pro
success (even if the upgrade not configured my graphics
card properly). I guess my current problem is either the registry,
the WINDOWS, some user file or parameter file.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    Another post:

I made a file and the backup of the folder C:\Windows folder
on my system that is pre-existing (OEM XP Home Sp3). I also did a
separate the backup the State of the 'system' on my pre-existing system.
These are added my full image backup of her pre-existing
    system a month ago.

I did a backup image of my system (minimum fees OEM XP Home
SP3 with all the original installed drivers over a network configured
connection and a firewall configured). This system will upgrade
XP Pro with XP Pro SP3 slipstreamed CD successfully.

    Experiment 1:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored the C:/Windows folder
and the State of the pre-existing system backup system. A startup
has managed (with a minor irritant). I had to activate Windows.
Then, I tried upgrading the slipstreamed XP Pro processor. He stopped
at the same place during the upgrade and gave the same error as before:

Setup cannot set the required configuration information Windows XP.
This indicates an internal Setup error.

    Experiment 2:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored the system state only
the backup of the pre-existing system. After startup I was asked to
activate Windows, but answer Yes to the question would be to disconnect me
the system. I couldn't get connected to try the XP Pro upgrade.

    Experience 3:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored only the C:/Windows
the backup of the pre-existing system folder. Once again, as in experiment 1,
the upgrade failed at the same place with the same error message.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Before the experiment 3, I hoped that 3 experience would succeed so I
could conclude that I had a registry problem. I'm not sure now.
I don't know what to try next. Take the minimum system and reinstalling
my files of the user is not an option that my hard drive has over 200 GB of
programs! If I restore all files and folders of my pre-existing
I would still have backup to restore a system state the reliable (read the registry).
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the length! If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate your responses.

    Thank you

    Hello

This problem can occur if a piece of hardware that is installed on your computer is not compatible with Windows XP.

For more information, see this link:

Error message: Setup cannot set the required Windows XP Configuration information

    Hope the helps of information.

  • Power options in the control panel are empty - can't do anything.

Recently, I noticed that the Power Options in the control panel is empty.  I can't create something or do something there.  Could something in Services.msc have disabled this?  Nowhere part that I should look at?  I cannot stop, restart, or put it to sleep.  Also when I start the computer (once using the hardware Reset button on the computer case) he does not remember my user name.  He asks me every time.  There is no password.  I just press ENTER after entering my user name.

So I found the magic formula to use the command run and it resets everything back to normal.  Can't find it now but if you google it you can find.  You want to reset the Power Options in the control panel.

His time, I have contributed something here!  I'm always ask questions and rarely give all the answers.  :)

  • I can't control the sleep display option - display decreasing intensity 5 minutes despite Power Options

    I have a HP Pavilion dv7, running Win 7 Professional SP1 x 64. It was purchased in 2010.

The display dims (goes to dark blue, not black, the desktop is not visible) after 5 minutes of inactivity.

The cover of the computer is open, pc is connected, nothing else is running.

I have power Options (Control Panel--> equipment) and its--> power for trendy Options value

HP recommended and I have edited the plan to these settings:

    • The brightness... 20 minutes
    • Turn off the display... 45 minutes
    • Put the computer to sleep... 1 hour

I put these time abnormally high just to see if the system will follow this plan, and it's not.

Which bothers me more that gradation display after 5 minutes.

Are there other system options that replace power options?

Please point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Your blue gradation display can show it's a flavor of screen running.

Check it out and set it to none.

  • Aspire 5742 not allowing changes to power options

I'm changing Power Options to never sleep or Hibernate, but as far as I have to change the settings is not to do it.  I have upgraded to Windows 10.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you

    Felicity

    Hi Felicity,

I make a few assumptions, but you can go into advanced settings and turn off some other things like putting to sleep HARD drive. From there on, make sure that both your battery and plugged on options are set correctly.

Finally, maybe a screenshot of the issue would help others contribute more to your question.

    Thank you

  • Power settings have changed and I can not open my power options.

I can't open my power options, and my laptop is somehow set to the screen to get dark every 2 minutes, even if I never got him to do. I tried opening the Control Panel, screen saver properties and the run menu. She will act as it starts to load for about 2 or 3 seconds then I get nothing. I really need to solve this problem, because my husband is deployed and it is difficult for my 2 year old to sit and have a video conversation with him. Thank you!

    Hello

    · What is the number and the model of the computer?

    · What happens when you try to open the power options?

    1. I suggest you to update the drivers for devices on the computer. You can check the links for steps: how to manage devices in Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283658
