Cannot start Explorer from the Task Manager shell, if another program is already specified as shell.

Hey people.
The company that I work uses Windows XP to run some software owners. Our software is configured to run as nt\currentversion\winlogon\ HKLM\microsoft\windows shell shell. I tried setting the shell two our product and random software like messenger or just the C drive, and every time when you use "run" of the Task Manager to open the explorer.exe shell, my documents will be opened instead of other things.
It will open my documents instead of the shell until I have two close open windows, excluded the Task Manager and set the entrance to Shell back to "Explorer.exe".
This problem persists between the platforms, and I've tried everything I can think of.
Any help will be great.

Hey. I am a newbie in this forum. And I really like to make my PC more 'me' even though my parents and brother told me that my PC did not differ from how difficult. But, I still like my PC... ^ ^
But my PC encountered a problem in my birthday (March 8, ehehe just FYI). Its a terrible birthday gift: (...) Oh, there. Its all started when I accidentally install a skin pack or win 7 in my PC 8 victory. There is nothing wrong with installing proggress except a notification which inform on win 7 Starter has not installed correctly. :( Well, I ignored, first. But after I have it reboot, my dekstop went all black but it still can open the Task Manager. And then I try the system restore. It did not work properly. The only thing made worse. Somehow, my "(le seul compte dans mon PC) DELETED account." In fact, the log on screen consist only of the ease of access and power button with backgorund optomistic. Where are the data of the user, I mean a place where we inserted the password? XC its make me super bad mood. And after some restoration system with various restore points, I restarted my PC in safe mode successfully. Yippie, its worked perfectly in safe mode. I created a new account in safe mode. I thought that my problem more but no. and the bad news is that there is only one user account (a new one) in the journal on the screen! It'll be better I have the new account very well work, but it didn't! The dekstop always all black with no taskbar and it's the same problem as the first.
I am not really confusing. What should I do? Should I remove a skin pack safe mode? or reinstall win 8 in PC COUNTER? Or do something that you already know the guy?
Help me. I am so irritated by this problem. In any case, I want to ask one last thing, you prefer something after me or just think it was a charitable organization? Well, I just want to know. And I'll do my best to show my appreciation once you help me. I am so TROUBLED even if today is my birthday! I want a big anniversary with neither party. But its seems no big birthday. Please, help me. His will probably be my MOST BEAUTIFUL GIFT to a person who I know in internet. If you need something detailed about my problem, ask me. I need your response. :") SURE ME MY CRAZY MOM, IF SHE KNEW IF I AM WRONG IN MY PC AGAIN.

Oh, there. The explorer.exe does not start in normal mode, but it works fine in safe mode. Also, I discovered that the disc is missing from the Task Manager. :) Help?

Wish you a very happy birthday, Damaris.

Of course, I can understand the situation you're in right now, and it's a shame. I will be happy to answer your query and try my best to offer my help as a gift for your birthday.

    Let me ask you;

    1. What happened when you tried the system restore?
    2. What was the last time that the computer worked well?
    3. What security software is installed on the computer?
    4. Remember to no particular change in the computer before the show?

The issue may be due to any dispute of third party software, virus or any system or missing files / corruption. Let's try the methods below and check the status.

Method 1: Since you are able to start the computer in safe mode without any mistake, I you suggest to start the computer in safe mode and then perform the clean boot to avoid software conflicts.

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode (as you are able to start the computer in safe mode with the steps you tried).

Step 2: Perform the clean boot

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Put your system to the clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must follow the steps in the article mentioned below to perform a clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: see 'How do I reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting' to reset the computer starts normally after troubleshooting.

Method 2: Run Microsoft Safety Scanner

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    Microsoft safety scanner

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: Data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means there is a risk of data loss.

Method 3: Run the tool File Checker system in case where any system files are missing or corrupted.

System File Checker is a Windows utility that allows users to find corruptions in Windows system files and restore the damaged files.

Enter in the right edge of the screen and then click on Search. Or, if you use a mouse, point to the corner bottom right of the screen, then click on Search. Type the command prompt in the Search box, right click invite, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.

At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

    sfc/scannow

Note: Not close this command prompt window until the audit is 100% full. The results of the analysis will be posted when this process is completed.

Hope this information is useful. Please feel free to answer in the case where you are facing in the future other problems with Windows.

  • Try to remove a CD image file, get the error message "this action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program.

I am trying to remove a file from CD image (.img) of my office

When I try to put it in the bin I get the message

"The action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program close the file, and then try again"

First, I checked the obvious things like if the .img file was mounted in a virtual drive - it isn't so I then used LockHunter to find which application is using the file so I can close by the Task Manager.

Unfortunately LockHunter told me that the file is used by 'System' - which cannot be closed through the TM.

    Any help?

The problem is that the program that allows you to mount the image always uses the image.  In my case I used the magical disc. Go to the start menu find the magic disk or folder folder, there should be an option to uninstall the magic disc. I tried UN-installing conrtol add and remove programs but it wouldn't let me. You can also click on computer in Start menu and see if the file you want to remove is always mounted (appears as a CD image). In this case that you can click the eject disc hit.

  • The Action cannot be performed because the file is open in another program

I get an error after a few seconds of trying to move several files from my PC Win 7 for Mac OS Maverick, that there is a file already in the destination on Mac. This is true, but it was just put there because I copy over to the same action.  It reads 0Kb and wasn't there until I started.  Then I get an error: the Action cannot be performed because the file is open in another program.  Close the folder or file, and then try again...

If I click on it a bunch of hold or wait, it takes about 45 seconds. I have to do with all the files, and it occurs when copying from PC to Mac.  PC-to-PC was never a problem.  I even rebooted both computers, so nothing is using all the files.  If I copy a file at a time, I get no error.

So, I have a single file to not move, no problem.  If move 5 files, the first is fine, but it presents all 5 files in the folder at a time.  All the other files that the first show 0kb. I get the already existing for the error file, and select move and replace.  Can I get the Action cannot be performed because the file is open in another program.  I wait or click several times until it starts to move the file.  This file tells something then other than 0 kb.  When it's done, the error process starts all over.  In Mac, nobody seems to have any idea.

  • Black screen - cannot run Explorer.exe with Task Manager

    Hi guys

I've been Googling the answer to that for the last day and nothing seemed to work.

Basically, my portable was working fine until this morning, when I restarted. After the home screen, just a rear screen with the mouse. CTRL ALT DEL and everything still works normally. I can run programs with the Task Manager, but can not run explorer.exe. He returned in the process for about 10 seconds then disappears. I think that it is the cause of the black screen. I tried downloading an own explorer.exe and replace the explorer.exe in C:\Windows\. My computer it did not as he said I need the permission of the administrator, but of course, I am the Admin so I don't know what that's all.
I tried to restart in Mode safe and that works very well, still, I can't replace the explorer.exe in the C:\Windows\ because I do not have the administrative authorization. I tried to change it in the Security tab of the properties, or impossible.
I also tried to update the driver software graphics cards, checked the Shell in the registry value and made sure it's explorer.exe, used the difficulty of black of Pevx screen, used HitmanPro and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool to scan and remove malware. I even did a scf/scannow, checked driver C a mistake (which took 3 hours!), let Windows Startup Repair to fix things, tried a system restore but failed. He says that the anti-virus (Sophos) prevented the restoration of the system, so I've temporarily disabled its access scanning on but still unable to restore to a previous (11/01). Program changes that recent such as listed in the system restore is Google + Auto BackUp who came when set Picasa to date there 3 days and a more recent version of Facebook video call I've ever used. I am now running a scan with Sophos, not too promising.
So yes, I tried everything. I think that now, there are only three options:

1 somehow replace the explorer.exe in C:\Windows\ with this new cool explorer.exe, which I downloaded, with the permission of the administrator
    2. try another restore of the system, but I'm sure that nothing will happen, already tried three times.
3 reinstall Windows 7 Edition Home Premium. It will be a real pain.

So please help me! I have courses of due on Monday and this portable do not let me what that be done. Thank you!!!

Please ignore the other my long answer. The problem has now been resolved.

After trying all kind of scans, drinking and sobbing, I came across TDSS Killer from Kaspersky, who managed to catch a 1 latest unique malicious software (that I was too stupid and really looked hopeless and remember the name of), it cures the problem after reboot. Now, the laptop works well like you wouldn't believe. I'm still confused but way too happy now to care. Thanks a lot for your help nevertheless!
  • Stop & disappeared from the Task Manager options

In my Start menu, the small button that allow you to stop, restart, etc. disappeared, and now there is only the option to lock the computer. In addition, when pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the only option, he must switch users, others such as the Task Manager disappeared.

I didn't have any changes, I started the computer and they were gone.

  • "The action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program" error when you try to delete folders in Windows 7

I've just updated 5 machines for a client to windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro. their data is stored on a server (SBS 2003) and so far, if they wanted to move files or folders or update documents Word / Excel sheets that they could do to will be no problem. What seems to happen now, is that if they try to edit files, then re-save (Word Documents, data sheets Excel etc), they are told the file is in use and changes cannot be saved. We have also upgraded their MS office Pro 2003 to 2010 Small Business but this seems to affect all based not only social files, so for example if I try and move a PDF file from one folder to another I get "file is used and can not be moved / deleted.

I also have another customer with the same problem, same configuration (positions upgraded Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro) they also have problems with moving / deleting files from the shares on a SBS 2003 Server?

I checked the server and the files are certainly not open where else?

Can someone help me on this...

I also tried the following to see if I can cure the problem:

I changed the parameters of GP on Small Business SERVER 2003 as follows:

User configuration - administrative models - Windows components.

    • Click on Windows Explorer.
    • Right click on the entry 'disable caching of thumbnails in the hidden thumbs.db files', then select Edit.
    • Select the parameter.

like apparently Windows 7 stores files in a Thumbs.db file information & to see if that makes a difference, but still no change.

It's seriously trying my patience and my clients are now wondering if they have windows XP back!

Surely theres a fix for this somewhere?

Should also add that I have disabled offline files that I thought that this may be the cause of the problem, but no change.

    lololol.png

  • Firefox is running in the Task Manager, but only opens a window.

I can't get Firefox to open a window. I tried firefox-p (Profile Manager) and firefox-safe (safe mode), but nothing works to open a window. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but that solves nothing. I haven't changed anything recently, so perhaps there is a update (?) Here's what happens:

I try to start Firefox, and the Task Manager indicates that Firefox is running. It employs about 32 k of memory, but the window never opens.

I click Firefox again. Manager tasks indicates 2 Firefox process now. The second is to use about 4 k of memory. Running Firefox repeatedly adds additional tasks to Firefox, each using about 4 k of memory.

After about a minute, the additional tasks of Firefox (the 4 k ones) start closing 1 by 1. I am now down to only 2 Firefox process, using 32 k and 4 k of memory, respectively. As far as I know, these processes will last forever, until I have shut them down manually. If I run Firefox again without closing the current process, it creates another 4 k process, which finally closes itself. If I close all the processes manually, I can start over from scratch. Meanwhile, Firefox never opens a window, or give a clue showing that it is running, with the exception of the processes listed in the Manager tasks.

I deleted the one in my USER folder without change. There are a couple more in various C:\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles files, so I deleted those too, without change.

It's a custom location. Normally, the profiles are under AppData\Roaming, I think you already know. There is a shortcut:

    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\

This folder must contain a profiles.ini file (.ini file extension may be hidden), which shows the names and paths to your profile folder (s). If you check in a text editor such as Notepad, this file contains sound data?

If this started right after an update, it could be a problem with security software, put an end to the commissioning (rules of program control) or program files has been corrupted.

You can check your firewall and other security software for program restrictions.

To meet possible corrupt files, I suggest:

    Clean reinstall it

We use this name, but it isn't about deleting your settings, this is to ensure that the program, files are clean (no incompatible or exotic code files). As described below, this process does not disrupt your existing settings. Don't uninstall NOT Firefox, that does not need.

    (A) download a fresh Installer for Firefox 43.0 https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ in an ideal location. (Scroll down your preferred language).

    (B) the release of Firefox (if any).

    (C) to rename the folder of the program as follows:

    (Windows 64-bit folder names)

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

    TO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

    (Windows 32-bit folder names)

    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

    TO

    C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

    (D) to run the installation program that you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

A cleanly reinstalled Firefox starts up normally?

Note: Some plugins can only exist in this OldFirefox file. If it is missing something essential, present in these files:

    • \OldFirefox\Plugins
    • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins
  • Csrss.exe file in the Task Manager without a user name or to the description

I was told by a Yahoo tech, which was supposed to come back to me in my locked e-mail account, that it is a virus. I did some checking and found a response (from the forum) who said: if I'm trying to complete the process and get a warning window pop up, it's a legitimate file (I get the window). If I right click on it, nothing comes. Has verified the Virus, malware check, used the scanner Microsoft and even a (Speed up PC) supposed to get rid of this (if it is a virus), all come out clean. Yet, the guy from Yahoo (I called once again, argues that it is a virus. I'm confused, ideas?

    Hello

Csrss.exe is a Windows file that is stored in the directory c:\windows\system32 which corresponds to the description of the file: "Client Server Runtime process.

The csrss.exe file included with Microsoft Windows is not spyware, a Trojan or a virus. However, as any file on your computer, it can be damaged by a virus, worm or Trojan. Antivirus programs can detect and clean this file if it has been infected.

It is not safe to remove csrss.exe processes from the Task Manager. Csrss.exe is a critical system process may not be withdrawn without causing problems with Windows in Task Manager.

    Hope this information is useful.
