Can ping printer but cannot print

Hi all
Not sure if this is the right forum, but it is a network printer, so I thought I would try it. My apologies if it should be elsewhere.

I have here a user who is trying to print to a printer Samsung CLX-6200 from anywhere in Windows 7 (even a test page will not work). We can see the printer, we can interact with the properties, we can ping the printer. We can do just about everything except print.

It is not a printer problem, like others on the network successfully print on the printer. It is not a print spooler problem, because the user can print to other printers on the network successfully. I assumed it was a corrupted driver or something, however to remove and then reinstall the device at no change results. I tried to connect directly to the printer (using a TCP/IP port) and connection via the print server. No luck.

The print job appears in the print queue but does not print and eventually fails. The print processor is Winprint, I checked the logs, but found no errors.

A complete reinstall, which I really don't want to do in deca (the user is in a remote office) I'm out of ideas.

The user runs Win 7-32 bit on a Dell Vostro 3550.

The following is based on my experience with XP; I haven't done a lot of work/research on Win 7 yet so I can't tell you absolutely that it will work, but it is worth trying.

In general, printer drivers are installed using an INF file.  However, the first time that an installation is attempted, Windows 'compile' the relevant INF file in a companion PNF file with the same name.  For subsequent installations, Windows uses the PNF file.

If you suspect a corrupted driver and download a new one, unless you have completely removed the old driver, including his PNF file, Windows will often use the old files.  You think that you install a new driver, but you're really not.

In Windows XP, the solution had to go on 'Server properties' in the file menu of the windows printers and faxes and delete the suspicious driver from there.  In Windows 7, it's a little more complicated:

Control Panel > system and security > administrative tools
Print management
In the left pane, expand print servers > > drivers
Select the suspicious driver in the right pane and Delete (I don't know if you have to remove the complete package 'pilot' or not, that the option was not under XP).
Now reinstall the driver.

If the remote user does not use a "computer administrator" account, I suspect that you may need to "Print Management" right click and select 'run as administrator '.

P.S.: Another procedure in XP was to use cleanspl.exe to Windows 2003 (available here--> http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17657) Resource Kit.  According to this Technet thread, the same tool will work in Windows 7.

I see ip nat inside and ip nat outside interfaces configured on. But I don't see any translation of address configured. This would preclude anything inside the unit to be able to access the Internet.

  • I can receive emails, but cannot send suddenly.

I can receive emails, but cannot send suddenly.  I get a message of rejected authentication.  It seems to have started after I upgraded to El Capitan.  At that point, I lost all my mails, but they reappeared a few weeks later.  Why I can't send emails?  Once I put them in a folder I can't access it from Xfinity so I can't answer.

Use the Mail connection doctor to make sure that your SMTP server settings are correct.

SMTP means Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, but if you want an easy way to remember what he does - send messages to people.

Mail (El Capitan): Use the connection doctor

You can try to use the e-mail search tool to check the correct e-mail settings.  E-mail service providers change their settings without talking to Apple for the Apple software may be updated.

    https://www.Apple.com/support/mail-settings-lookup/

If Apple does not settings from your e-mail service provider, this means that your email service provider did not give them to Apple.  If this is the case, you will need to contact them and ask for the correct SMTP server settings.

E-mail settings, you may have need of your email provider - Apple support

On the road, most of the providers are blocking SMTP Port 25. Frontiernet is no different.

Note that this completely mentions authentication. I would put Frontier and make sure the SMTP port, you need to use. Once changed, it will work in the home and on the road.

I can access the web version and it sends and receives e-mail messages. But I find the flaky web version, to say the least.

My only problem is how to find my way in this forum?

    Do not laugh!

    Server error: 4402

This error is often associated with folders created by the user. I seem to remember that a user facing this error discovered that he had reached the upper limit on the number of files. Is this possible? There is a maximum number of folders created by the user regardless of the nesting level, and I think it's 128. Otherwise, check that the files that you see in Windows Live Mail are identical to those that you see at http://mail.live.com. If you have recently added a folder, empty it by moving its contents into a folder under storage folders, and then remove it.

The program log shows where the error arises. Registration is enabled on the page of Maintenance program options, you can get to by pressing Ctrl-Shift-O for Options when displaying your message list. You will see the button of the Maintenance on the Advanced tab and logging for the different modes is selected at the bottom of the page. The newspaper itself, it's a text file called WindowsLiveMail.log and he lives in the root of your storage folder. The location of this folder is given under the storage folder on the same maintenance page.

You will later need to remove Windows Live Mail account, and then add it again back to restore the synchronization between the client and server relationship. Because this may involve a lot of re - download messages, this is the last resort. He might have to wait until your account has been reset to the level of the server, which would require the intercession of a support worker. Let's try the less memorable potential remedies first.

I don't think that repair or uninstall and reinstall the program will have any effect on this server error.

    Anyone else having this problem?

    Thanks nene!

I have studied the problem and the solution.
    The results are displayed below.

IF YOUR INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER IS

    ATT OR SBC GLOBAL
    AND YOUR EMAIL CLIENT IS
       WINDOWS LIVE MAIL
    AND YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM IS

    WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM
AND IF YOU CAN RECEIVE MAIL
    CAN NOT SEND to MAIL
BE SURE TO CHECK THE FOLLOWING SETTINGS:

Outgoing (SMTP) server port should be 587
and CHECK the box that says "my server requires authentication".
Do NOT check the SSL box.

Click APPLY at the bottom, and then close the Windows Live Mail program
and then reopen it.  This should send messages in your Outbox (as appropriate).
To speed up this process, you can click on the SYNC button on the MenuBar at the top of WML.

If there are no messages to send, compose a new message and send it to yourself.
You can click on SYNCHRONIZE to watch status box open and show you if it sends.
Check also sent box and Inbox for sending TEST msg.

    * also, if you have been told by AT & T or SBC GLOBAL who to check your email on the internet you must go through Yahoo.com and enter your full e-mail (att.net OR sbcglobal.net) and enter your log in password, then your email POP3 and SMTP settings must also include the following:

    INCOMING (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.com
    OUTBOUND (SMTP): mail.yahoo.com

    Thanks & sincerely,.

We can ping IP numbers in both directions, but not machine names.  I know it's linked DNS are unsure which solution is.  All advice is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Lori

Hi Lori, hostname access is generally limited to the range of local IP addresses. In addition, the router does not host a DNS record to resolve hostnames on part and other VPN respectively. You can configure the LMHOST files on each machine or you can try to use NetBios.

You can enable NetBios on the VPN tunnel configured on each router and disable the Firewall window or make exceptions to allow NetBios traffic through the firewall of the machine.

  • Site to site VPN, can ping router but not customers

I set up a site to site between an ASA5505 (company) and a router of the 871w (remote control).  The tunnel is up, and I can ping anything on the remote network business network.  However, with the passage of the company remotely, I am only able to ping the router, but no clients are connected on it.  The IP address for the router is on the same subnet as the rest of the guests (192.168.1.0/24).  I looked at the logs on the ASA5505 and it seems to be the way the traffic fine, so the problem seems to sit on the 871.  To reinforce this, to actually start the tunnel linking the corporate network using a ping to one of these customers (even if the ping command:------)

I'll be happy to provide any additional information necessary.  Thank you.

    Hey Marshall.

Can you confirm for me that there is no firewall on clients that might be blocking pings? The problem description that you provided it seems that as long as the clients initiate the ping, it is successful, but the reverse is not true. This seems to indicate something about customers may be blocking traffic. Also since you say that you are able to ping the router with the ip address in the same subnet as the clients it further strengthens my conviction that the issue could be with the customers.

    Kind regards

    ATRI.

First of all, when I search this server name, other examples show a dash between and the smtp server: smtp - server.triad.rr.com

    Who help me?

Second, as with most other ISPS, when you connect outside your home network, you must enable authentication. This thread on another forum detailed the steps of the front:

A solution of authentication of e-mail SMTP (Roadrunner) - precentral Forums

    http://forums.precentral.NET/Palm-pre-tips-information-resources/196918-solution-email-SMTP-authentication-Roadrunner.html

Note that when you are in your home network wi - fi range, these settings may not work. For example,.

If this does not work, you can relay your mail via a Gmail account. This thread explains:

A little luck? Please report on your solution.

  • Guest OS using NAT and host wireless can ping Google but can't surf the net

    Hi all.

I just installed 'Vmware Workstation ACE Edition' Version: 6.0.0 build-45731

I then installed a new virtual machine Windows XP SP2 home edition.

My host is a business of W7, browse the internet using a wireless network card. (I currently don't have a way to have the physical NIC connected to it).

    My conf wireless host is:

LAN wireless adapter wireless network connection:

    The connection-specific DNS suffix. :

... Description: Connection network Intel (r) PRO / Wireless 3945ABG

    DHCP active...: Yes

    Autoconfiguration enabled...: Yes

    IPv4 address: 192.168.1.33 (Preferred)

    ... Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0.

    Lease obtained...: Thursday, December 2, 2010 10:50

    Lease expires...: Sunday, December 5, 2010 10:49:59

    ... Default gateway. : 192.168.1.1.

    DHCP server...: 192.168.1.1.

    DNS servers...: 192.168.1.1.

    NetBIOS over TCP/IP...: enabled

The goal is simple: be able to surf the web with my guest OS (Windows XP Home edition).

I first tried to bridge with VMnet0 = > KO (no ping, no navigation)

I then tried NAT which is by default bound to VMnet08 = > always KO but:

    -I can ping google.com:

Ping google.com http://173.194.36.104 with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 173.194.36.104: bytes = 32 time = 765ms TTL = 128

-I can not always surfing the net

When you activate NAT on the guest operating system the ipconfig gives the following:

Ethernet connection to the Local network card:

The connection-specific DNS suffix. : localdomain

    ... The IP address: 192.168.31.128

    ... Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0.

    ... Default gateway. : 192.168.31.2.

I do not have an anti virus installed on the client

I tried to disable windows firewall with no luck

    I tried telnet google.com port 80 = > KO

    C:\ > telnet google.com 80

Login to google.com... Could not open connection to the host, on port 80: Co

    nnect failed

Any help, tracks, ideas, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Michael

Just an info, Windows 7 is not a host VMware Ace/Workstation 6 operating system.  Also why do you install 6.0.0 vs install 6.0.5?

Have you tried to manually set DNS servers to no known public IP address just leave it to the private IP address that you have shown by default?

    Give a try:

    OpenDNS

    208.67.222.222

    208.67.220.220

    Or

    Google Public DNS

    8.8.8.8

    8.8.4.4

  • VPN inside comments - can ping Web servers; cannot browse Internet sites

When connecting through my VPN Client, I ping "google.com", but cannot display Web sites in browsers (Proxy not necessary).

There is no error message in browsers, just an attempt without end to load websites that I go.

I use NAT and without VPN, everything works fine.

This problem does not occur if I use the network bridged - but is not option,

because it doesn't work for me at home and does not work with the University network - this laptop is also connected to.

Cisco VPN Client 5.0.04.0300 inside XP32-comments

    The host also XP32

    VMware Workstation 6.5.2

I don't know if this makes any difference, but it's a wireless connection (laptop)

That means THAT DNS is working. What is a proxy? Do you need to configure a proxy or one is configured, but you don't need one?
