Cannot take possession: Program Files

Hello

I have some problems with the file. I recently installed Windows Vista Home Premium. I have a folder called "Windows.old" that contains the previous Windows installation files. There is a file that I'd like to spend "C:/Windows.old/Program Files" to "C:/Program Files. But Windows gives me an error "You need Permission..". I right click on "C:/Program Files" and it is not a full control on the folder. I tried to take control, but it says access denied.

Any ideas how to solve this problem?

It seems by clicking OK to the error message, he jumped on Program Files and took possession of everything.  I'm confused, because he worked (records of the child should not have substitute on parent folders - but it was only an error message (may not be an error but something built into the program to prevent exactly what we are trying to do).

Click C:\ / Properties / Security / Advanced / owner and tell me who is the current owner.  I bet it's you.  Click on Program Files / Properties / Security / Advanced / owner and tell me who is the current owner.  I bet it's the TrustedInstaller.  See if you can change your username (you have probably already tried this a hundred times, but I'm trying to cover all bases) - he'll probably give you access is denied.

I'm sorry, but it seems that full access to this folder cannot be obtained by normal methods.  There may be a registry hack that could provide access, but I certainly don't know it.  Maybe someone else will see this thread and respond with a suggestion that we didn't (or at less the system engineer, when you look at the thread for the marking of correct answers).

Sorry I couldn't help you with your question, but I do not know how to defeat the defenses of the system against the change of ownership on this issue.

If I were you, I would like to repost this question in the Microsoft Technet forums http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistadesktopui/threads where participants are technically a little more oriented and I'm sure that someone there will be more than happy to help you with your problem.

Good luck!

  • Error message states that windows cannot find "C:\program files (x 86) \internet explorer\iexplore.exe"

I get an error message when I try to open internet explore and I get in safe mode as well... He said windowns cannot find "C:\program files (x 86) \internet explorer\iexplore.exe someone help me please!"

    Hello

    x 86 is 32-bit operating system

and the 64-bit vista 32-bit and 64-bit browsers explore included

The Internet Explorer shortcut in the Quick Launch toolbar, and in the x 64 Vista Start menu will run the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer by default. Why run the 32-bit version if IE on the 64-bit version of Vista?

There are actually two shortcuts for Internet Explorer in the "Programs" menu Why two and what is the difference?

This is the title of each and they run exe:

    Internet Explorer
    "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Internet.

    Internet Explorer (64-bit)
    "C:\Program may Explorer\iexplore.exe.

    Run the sfc/scannow command.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally madeprograms,Accessories, right-clickguest, and then clickrun as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or clickallow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions

If SFC detects the main problems it can't fix you may need to borrow a Microsoft dvd vista not an acer, HP etc. recovery disk and do a repair installation

  • unsolicited to pop up "Windows cannot find ' C:\Program Files (x 86) \Search»»

Nearly a week there is a window began to appear during the first load of my computer. It's a black rectangular window marked taskeng.exe, but there is nothing in it. Almost immediately after that, a prompt appears that says "Windows cannot find ' C:\Program Files (x 86) \Search Extensions\Client.exe".» Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. ' It opens at the beginning, until I typed or even clicked on anything yet.  When I click 'OK', it closes and my computer works normally, a little more slowly than usual. It does not appear to be a problem, but I don't know there could still be something wrong that I can't see or know something about.

I watched taskeng.exe and I understand that it is a task manager, but that it could be related to malware or a virus when it ceases to appear. I did a full scan of the disk C with Malwarebytes and, thankfully, he said I have no malware to remove. I do not understand why he started coming. I did a system restore, but nothing has changed.

Can someone help me understand what it is and how to stop it without risk to occur?

    Thank you, Kateri

What has happened is that your software antivirus or antimalware software correctly identified as a spam and removed program client.exe.  In this case, however, there often remains of the malware left behind this attempt to leave the now-missing executable malware.

In your case, it seems that there is a scheduled task that tries to launch client.exe.

    • Click the start ORB, type the following command in the start search box and press enter
      Task Scheduler
    • When the Task Scheduler window opens, click on "Task Scheduler (local)" in the left pane
    • Use the scroll bar on the right to scroll down to "active tasks.
    • Use the inner scroll bar to scroll the active task list to find anyone trying to launch Client.exe.  Search for "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Search Extensions in the"Location"field

    • When you have found the ticket with Extensions of research in the location field, double click it.
    • In the right pane ("shares") find "Delete" at the bottom of the list and click on it.
    • Close Task Scheduler and restart
    • You should not get the popup more

If this does not work, or if you do not find the right task to remove, download Autoruns http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx -->

    • Run Autoruns and once the analysis is complete, confirm that the "all" tab is selected (it will have to use it) then click file > find and search for client.exe
    • If a line with client.exe is found, make sure the 'Image path' set to C:\Program Files (x 86) \Search Extensions and then clear the check box at the left end of the line
    • Press F3 to search for other instances of the client.exe (I don't expect there to be no)
    • Autoruns to close and restart
    • You should not get the popup more

If you've used autoruns, if you are convinced that the problem has been corrected and no problem has been introduced, you can run autoruns and this time 'remove' the line with client.exe inside.

I suggest also using Windows Explorer to go to C:\Program Files (x 86) and verification of the contents of the file Extensions of research.  If it is empty, delete the entire folder.  If the files remain, are also likely to remnants of malware, but I won't tell you to delete them without knowing what they are.  If there are exe files, use your favorite search engine for names of files of research (or post the list here).

  • Error message after you initialize computer error "Windows cannot find C:\Program Files (x 86) \Search Extensions\Client.exe make sure you typed the name correctly and try again.

After that I turned on my computer, I get this error message... "Windows cannot find C:\Program Files (x 86) \Search Extensions\Client.exe make sure you typed the name correctly and try again."

It all started October 1, 2014, and I have no idea why.

I asked windows assistance online, and he said he had something to do with my registry.
But then there just stop communicating and did not tell me how to solve this problem.

Y at - it a registry repair tool?

Also it does not affect my computer that I can tell.

But I have a problem in which windows cannot detect.

In the printers and devices window, the icon of my computer has a triangle with an exclamation mark inside error.

Maybe someone out there not and I'd appreciate any help.

    Hey, mark

First have you properly uninstalled this program? He was executed at startup of Windows an incorrect uninstall may cause this error may still be registered in MSConfig to start automatically with the computer.

Did you go to the address specified in Program Files (86) \Search Extensions to see if the file is present or not?

With a mark of exclamtion in the middle of a yellow triangle indicates that drivers must be updated.

Right-click on the device with the triangle, select Properties, go to the Hardware tab, select the device with a triangle next to it, select Properties again and select Update driver.

This should solve the problem, if Windows Update can't find a driver for you, you can always go to the manufacturers website and download it there, however, if the Windows Update does not find it there ' has a chance to the manufacturers Web site may not it as well, in this case, you can open Device Manager right-click the missing material or using outdated drivers, select Properties, go to the Details tab and in the hardware id select menu drop-down property search with id, you receive information about the device and so download the drivers the most up-to-date and appropriate from other reliable sources.

    Thank you

  • Cannot delete the program files x 86

    Hello
I upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 32 bit 64 bit.

This is still a Program Files x 86 folder that I am trying to get rid. I managed to remove most of the files, and I was able to change the permission of owner so I can delete some other files.

However, no matter how I change ownership and permission, I am unable to remove Adobe files and common files.

    Thanks for your suggestions, tips.

You still need the x 86 folder.  If it was the 32-bit "remains", he would have the x 86 in the name of the folder.  This file is required and is used by many points of 32 bits, which are present in the base 64-bit OS, as objects of assistance of the browser plugins like flash and all the 32-bit programs you run (as all programs in the world, almost, like email clients, email programs, media players, etc.).

    Do not delete this folder.

first of all, let me tell you bear with me, I'm not very tech savvy

Previously on my desktop computer with windows xp operating system, I have a usb adapter that plugs into the back that captures internet of my modem in the basement. recently, I was forced to reformat my computer and lost all my settings and the installation for the card files. After calling at & t to support, I was directed to http://broadband.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/21282/kw/installation/session/L3RpbWUvMTMxMDE0OTI3MS9zaWQvbTJSQ2J1eWs%3D where I was instructed to download files to install my adapter (because I don't have the original installation disc for it). This is where I am stuck. the files are in format ".sys" and therefore cannot be executed. What should I do at this point?

  • Cannot take possession of the hard drive Partition

I have a partition on my hard drive to store media. OS is XP home SP3. For some reason, I didn't have full access to certain folders on the partition so I tried to change the permissions for the entire score. I don't remember exactly what I did, but the main thing is that I have more access to the root of the partition. (I can always access all files using the file Explorer). I tried to appropriate the partition via the safe mode and the administrator account, but it won't allow me to take this way. I also tried to merge with the c drive partition using partition magic, but I had an error half way through the process. I suppose that the permissions would not happen. I read on the internet that "you can always take ownership' and I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

    Can someone help me?

Manually apply permissions to a file or folder, follow these steps. Manually apply permissions, it's something that only advanced users should do because you could end up with unexpected results.

    1. right click on the file or folder and then clickProperties.

    2. click on the tab Security and then clickchange.

    3. If you want to set permissions for a user who is not listed undergroup or user names, click Add, type everyone in the name of the user or group, clickOK, select permissions and then click OK.

  • Cannot take possession of the two machines after power failure

Greetings...  Recently, I experienced a power failure to my office when I was running two different virtual machines.  After the reboot, I am unable to connect to machines like VMWare tells me "this virutal machine seems to be running."  If I press the button "Take Ownership", he immediantely is back with a dialog box saying "Appropriation of this virtual machine failed."  How to unlock these machines?

    Thanks in advance

    Jason

    Hello

First stop of VMware Workstation, then go and have a look at the folders where are stored the your virtual machines.

It is likely that you will see some .lck .lock files or folders. Which ones you will see (lck or lock) depends on the version of your VMware product.

Delete these files (move them to another folder if you are more comfortable with it), and then return to VMware Workstation.

Reopen the virtual machines and chances are big enough to make them work as they used to be.

    Good luck!
