Cannot view videos from SD card on Windows 8

I got the new laptop with Windows 8 OS.  My Sony DC-SX45 camera has an SD memory card with the files it contains. I tried to load the files on my computer to edit and publish of MovieMaker.  The files were showing the file system "MPEG" instead of normal "MP4" files system  When I pulled them up, the screen was black.  I can hear the video, but do not see it.  It will not appear in MovieMaker or Windows Media Player. I can watch the video in the VCR from Toshiba, but that's all.  Is there a setting on the camera that I have to change?  It will work with Windows 8, or is there an updated driver, I need?  Any help with this issue is appreciated.  I want to put my videos but can not see the in Movie Maker so I can change them before I post.

According to microsoft, the format MP4 and MPEG2 are supported.

  • Download the digital video from a camcorder using Windows Live Movie Maker

Tried to upload digital videos from a camcorder using Windows Live Movie Maker. To plug my camcorder, a dialog box "import video" appears. However when I name the video, and then click then I get an error message "there is no tape in your digital video device. To continue, insert a tape with recorded video you want to import. I tried eject Strip and re-integration, restart the camcorder and PC without success.

OK, I found my problem. I was getting the same error "There is no cassette" who you were. Here's what fixed it:

    1. Right click on my computer
    2. Properties
    3. Device Manager on the left
    4. Find the firewire card in the list (mine was the only thing listed under IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers)
    5. Make a right click, properties
    6. Driver tab
    7. Update driver
    8. Browse my computer for driver software
    9. Let me pick from a list of device on my computer drivers
    10. Choose one that has '(legacy)' at the end
    11. Click Next until it is done.

After that the error has disappeared and I was able to capture video with success.

    Hope this helps,

    -Brett.

  • I cannot import video from an SD card in movie maker

I get an error message that says: I need to codec - is it possible that this is done automatically whenever I want to import video from my camera, my SD card or my pictures folder?

No, it is not automatic and it is possible that the
video is not compatible with Movie Maker.

What is the video format (extension)?

Several formats are apparently compatible with
Movie Maker, but the most reliable choices are:

    Photos - bmp
Video - wmv or dv - avi
    Audio - wav, wma, wmv

  • Cannot transfer video from Sony handycam to WMM

I have Windows XP SP3. 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, Intel Core2Duo processor. I have Sony Handycam DCR-HC54 with USB streaming. Until a few months back, I was able to transfer videos from Handycam to Windows Movie Maker and could change, to make the film. The last few months, I am unable to transfer the same. When I click on "Capture video from the device" WMM detects the device by clicking "Sony Digital Imaging Vedio 2' and 'next' theresfter... and after finally clicking on video menu setting the message poster"Class not registered"after trying again the message says"the video device is currently in use. " Close any other application that uses this device and try again "I guess this problem happens since I was insalled SP3. I tried to remove the SP3, but in vein. The final message shows ' specified fie not found. can't uninstall SP3' except this problem, the system works very well. What I'm doing. Plese Guide.

I know that you don't have to get a firewire card, but it will be faster than the USB to transfer the video

  • Why can't I capture video from the device under windows 8?

I have tried a myriad of programs to capture video from my Hauppauge wintv-hvr 950 on my computer windows laptop 8. No program does seem to work so I went back to the proven windows movie maker 2.6, except for a device capture option is is no longer there. Does anyone know how I could fix this problem?

You have the latest drivers/software installed (from 10/06/2013)?
    http://www.Hauppauge.com/site/support/support_hvr950.html

Yes, I just did, but the import of video in movie maker 2.6 options still don't understand, "Capture device".

Well, first of all – Windows Movie Maker 2.6 is for Windows Vista.  If you managed to make it work on Windows 8 - which is not supported by anyone and if you use Windows Vista: wrong forum.  ;-)

Second - if you're running Windows 8 (as indicated by your line of topic and forums that you have chosen to display in)-indeed the next question would be: did you add the Pack Windows 8 Media Center to what you run, Windows 8 Pro?

Followed by: have you contacted Hauppauge support?

Their own web page to buy the card does not list Windows 8 as an operating system supported:
    http://www.Hauppauge.com/site/support/support_hvr950.html

"What operating systems are supported by the WinTV-HVR-950?

    • Microsoft Windows 7-32 and 64 bit
    • Windows Vista (all versions), 32-bit and 64-bit
    • Windows® XP, XP Pro, or Windows XP Media Center Edition with Service Pack 2 (or higher)
    • Mac OSX (with the Elgato EyeTV software)"

And finally - what are your system specs?

    • 2.2 1.8 GHz Centrino GHz P4 or equivalent (minimum).
    • 2.8 CPU clocked at GHz for analog TV recording with MPEG-2 (minimum).
    • Adapter with 64 MB of RAM (minimum) graphic display.
    • Sound card or system.
    • USB 2.0 port (will not work with USB 1.1).
    • CD-ROM drive (for software installation)

Is this a new system provided with Windows 8, an old system you upgraded with Windows 8, or what?

  • Foxnews video does not load. I could see to IE10, but that stopped too. Same problem exists with Firefox. I can view videos from AOL and MSN etc.

I've seen a few solutions in your site but cannot follow what is said. For the less savvy technique, please list step by step instructions - what to click, how to get there, what to look for etc..

It took some time for me to get a resolution. I feel that each situation is unique. I tried several of the solutions proposed in this forum and in other available online, including Flashplayer forums.

It would have been absurd that I can see videos from virtually anywhere, but I could not by Fox News and CBS. Something was in conflict, but I didn't know what.

It turns out that I had a problem with Doubleclick.net. In Internet Options - Security - Trusted Sites - Sites is where you should go. If you find that it is a site - delete. In my case, it wasn't there, but I added the following to my trusted sites - https://*. DoubleClick.net and low and behold, all right. I watched a few videos of Foxnews and I finally managed to see CSI from CBS online.

How this has happened I'm not sure, but sometimes there is, I had this crazy idea to withdraw advertising via AOL. A number of e-mail accounts is by AOL, and I suspect that something has been corrupted as a result.

I hope this can solve the problem for some of you who have this problem, but looking at internet options via your Control Panel control seems to be less aggravating area to start!

I imported a video from my camera in movie maker so I can change the direction of the video to share. When I do I play but without audio. How to fix this problem?

Sounds like you have a compatibility issue with the
video file. If convert you to WMV format before
import into Movie Maker, you can get a better
    result.

There are to many converters available on the net...

  • Whenever I try to download video from my card memory camcorder toshiba my computer shuts down immediately!

I have another video camera and he plays those clips fromt eh memory card (although very slow and the sound is turned off), but it won't let me even open the files of the toshiba.

    Hi Shelanne,

    (1) if it works well before?

    (2) you get an error message?

Method 1: connect your device as mass storage device - if your device appears in Windows Explorer and then run check disk bad sectors

    a. Click Start, in the start search bar type cmd, right-click on the command prompt icon in the box programs and then click Run as administrator.

    b. type E: (your Toshiba device) and press enter

    c. at the command prompt, type chkdsk /f and then press ENTER.

    Now, type chkdsk/r

Note: CHKDSK would attempt to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, in the course of this process there are chances of DATA loss from that particular area.

Method 2: Check the logs in Event Viewer for more information on this problem

    Open event viewer

What are the information in event logs? (Event Viewer)

Method 3: Check if your device works fine on another computer, if the problem persists then obviously the problem is with the device itself. Contact the manufacturer of the device for known problems.

  • Cannot play videos from the recent updates.

Since I downloaded a bunch of updates from MS, I'm able to play any video.  As soon as the video starts, I get a black window and restart my computer.  I tried a bunch of dates in the system restore to get a message that it cannot be done.  I went to Ms. Mr. Fix it and discovered that Windows Media Player 11 does not work with Nero.  I had already deleted Nero, but did a search and found a bunch of files for Nero.  I deleted and then returned and he ran hard and used the "automatically fix problems."  A list has come to say that everything has been fixed.

I tried another video, but it's the same thing.  So I restarted the fix, but this time the 'auto' is gray and all I had left to choose was "looking for problems and I will fix.  It came with a Nero codex.  I chose to delete it, but which has not yet fixed the problem.

I was wondering if I can just re - install Media Player 11 - I can't seem to delete it again.  I get a message that it goes back to a previous version, which was 10 - but I'm still on display 11.

I really don't know what else to try.  Any suggestions?

Might be interesting to try to do a Safe Mode system restore.
