Capacity Planner tool query

I have following queries about this tool:

1 can I use several model material for one scenario for example if I need to develop two types of material saying low and high-end and would like to place the result of the VM, is there an available way to achieve this?

2. If the server under evaluation receive their IP address of the DHCP server and evaluating servers go down during the assessment and it comes back later with diffferent IP how corelate the previous data?

3. as a follow-up to Question #2, what happens if the IP remains same. It will be able to collect data from the systems being evaluated?

4. I need to understand the "Averge industry" in detail. What is the basis of filling it and how he is referred to as "Standardized", without providing details.

First of all. My experience of the Capacity Planner tool is old, then you want to dubble some offsets verify what I say.

1. you must decide what systems are low-end and high-end. Then, you make a scenario using the 'high end' group modeled on high-end hardware. Then, obviosly, the Group of low range on a low-end hardware. To my knowledge there is no way for the Capacity Planner automatically determine what are the high or low end systems and plce on different hardware models.

2 capacity planner will then see that as two different systems, BUT, even if you have a DHCP server based Park (which is not so common actually) server and the server has been down longer the term of the lease to configure the DHCP scope the first thing that the server will ask you when it comes is back the permission to use the last him, called IP address. So if that is not granted to a plaintiff again the server will come with its old IP address in most cases.

3. Yes

4. the 'average/standard industrial' is simply statistical. For example if the average of 1000 SQL servers out there shows a specific behavior and your SQL Server performed way differently (uses a lot more resources), then you might want to consider why your implementation is so different. To avoid purchase Super material just to accommodate a messed-up SQL Server when you might be happier with a slower material, or less, if you just set your SQL implementation. That's all.

  • Strength of re - download all the data the Capacity Planner tool

    Hello

I have a situation where a colleague installed Capacity Planner on a site and left on for more than a month before having a capacity planner account in the warehouse of VMWare (optimize.vmware.com).

This means that the tool has been happily collecting data locally but he not sent to the Web site.

He obtained his full story last week and made the link to the online store by registering its local database with the site ID. However, it seems that the capacity planner tool has not downloaded all the data it has collected - he made only in the last two weeks, and it doesn't seem it's going to 'catch up' and recover old data.

I looked in the local Access database and you can see all the old data in there. Question - is it possible to force a re-synchronization of all data in the local database, while the old data are sent to the server? I tried Admin/Options/Modules, enter the work of data synchronization and uncheck everything except export data collection and send data, then manually run this task of data synchronization, but he only made a partial dump of the data.

If the data have never been sent to VMware.  The data must be in the folder "c:\program files\vmwaer\vmware capacity planner\outbox.

If the data have been sent, and archive check box has been selected, the data must be in the folder "c:\program files\vmwaer\vmware capacity planner\archive.

If the data has been sent and the box archive was not checked, then the data will be only at VMware.  You will need to contact vmware to reprocess data.

  • Standalone for Capacity Planner tools

    Hi all!

We do a planner of capacity for all our servers. We recover almost all of the information that is sufficient for us except for servers that are in a demilitarized zone. I know, we can open the port, but after talking with network admin, it seems a bit difficult to process this request. It is the policy of this group. It is not important.

I would like to know if they exist tools for manually on each server and read the data elsewhere. I saw the Tools folder and is good, but nothing to explain how to use it.

Anyone got some information about this?

    Thanks in advance

    Eric

I don't remember off the top of my head, but it is prescribed in the instructions for Caacity Planner - there is a way to install a collector machine in the demilitarized zone and configure it so that instead of pushing the date it jst is stored in a text file that you can download more later manually to the dashboard.

  • Difference between file system capacity and the capacity of the disks in Capacity Planner reports

    Hello

I had to go on my Capacity Planner tool training soon, but I have a question on the front that frustrates me. In the evaluation report that comes out of the tool after the analysis, a use of disc section, which lists all the servers for analysis there. A column of this report is directed to file system capacity, another disk capacity. In all cases, the first is less than the latter. What is the exact meaning of these labels?

Some of the numbers differ substantially between the columns, for example 20 GB for a capacity of 36 GB of disk space for a server and file system. He said that only 20 GB to 36 GB disk is formatted/partitioned to use?

    As previously stated:

Disk capacity is 36 GB - physically, there are 36 GB of storage.

File system is logical capacity - the amount of space used by files on the disks.

File system and the capacity of the disks will never match because fees General table of file.

    I hope this helps.

  • Y at - it update Dell Capacity Planner or similar?

Hello.  I searched for a calculator / planner that will tell me the power requirements of the Dell Poweredge 13 G rack of servers with various configurations.

I found a copy of the DataCenter Capacity Planner to http://www.dell.com/html/us/products/rack_advisor_new/, that looks like exactly what I want, except that it lists only the old servers.

Y at - it a more updated version of this somewhere?  Or he was replaced by another tool?

    Thanks for any help.

(PS. I was going to make this post in the PowerEdge Rack HW forum, but for some reason that I can't create messages in this one).

    Hello.

The tool you are looking for is called the Dell Energy Smart Solution Advisor (ESSA). See the link: www.dell.com/.../config_calculator. You will also find the Data Center Capacity Planner (DCCP) at the bottom of the same page.

  • New material in Capacity Planner

    Hello

Sorry if these are fundamental questions - his age since I used ability cards!

I look at is equipment and ability cards models - but all systems are quite old. Do new systems added automatically or is there and easy way for me to add a? For example, I was hoping to use Lenovo X 3650 servers in my assessment of consolidation, but there is no entry of Lenovo, I see. Even former IBM 3650 x models are not suitable.

No one knows when the capacity planner is updated to include the version 6 of vSphere?

Finally, for the system settings there are three parameters of the disc for a host ESXi - size, speed and i/o speed, what should be? Am I right in assuming that the size is the size of the storage SAN (in my case 40 to), the speed is the speed of connection (in my case 8 GB FC) and the e/s? (No idea). Or am I wrong?

Thanks a lot for your help!

  • Import Performance data in VMware Capacity Planner

VMware Capacity Planner has the ability to import performance data in data manager or you must collect data from performance via the Capacity Planner software?

    Hello wgmaurerEMC,

You can collect data from target of UNIX and Linux machines running the CP shell on each target computer scripts

rather than run the scripts through the host of collector.

Please, see page 47 of the CP reference Guide attached on how to implement the manual execution of scripts.

  • Capacity Planner

    Hello

The one you suggest, how can we use Scheduler capability to set the capacity of the ESXi servers for consolidation?

Is this only allowed for partners and vmware?

    Please suggest.

    Hello Manu,

    Welcome to the community!

Yes, Planner cappacity is allowed only for vmware partners!

Contact vmware or vmware partner! Capacity planner will install on any machine in the network for a month or whatever.

the data will then be uploaded to optimize.vmware.com.

then the VMWare will be comeupp to the requirements.

  • Capacity planner, no data help

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this topic, but I can't find a specific forum for the capacity planner.

I installed a collector on a site and registered 20 machines. I registered the database ID in the dashboard. the collector is collecting information regularly and it shows that the data are uploaded. but I waited for 3 days now and the dashboard shows always do not all data.

am I missing something? where should I start looking?

  • vCheck 5 'capacity Planner Info'

    Hey all -

I recently start diving into the world of powercli and read many messages of Luc et Al. I came across the vCheck script a few months ago and he watched briefly. I am now responsible for coming up with some information about the ability of my superiors and it seems that the vCheck script has some valuable information in it. My problem is the 'capacity Planner Info' I'm not sure what he said. I'd really like to see if this information will help you. I have attached a picture below of my results, but not clear how to act on it. A bit of clarification would help so I can finish my report this weekend.

    Kind regards

    Mark

In the report vCheck Alan performs a theoretical calculation of the capacity of comments, cpu and mem with, for a cluster.

The formula is not too difficult to understand:

    • capacity cpu and mem 'real' cluster. It comes to the number of hosts in the cluster under level specified in the settings of cluster failover. For example (I only show cpu, mem is similar):

      • A cluster has 8 nodes.
      • Each node has 4 x 3 Ghz = 12 GHZ cpu capacity. The cluster has a total capacity of 96 GHz cpu.
      • Cluster failover level corresponds to 2 knots
      • The script calculates the 'real' as cpu capacity: 96 GHz - ((96 GHz * 2) / 8) = 72 GHz
    • the average CPU utilization of the cluster in the last 7 days.
      • This example uses the Get-Stat cmdlet with the cpu.usage.averagemhz metric.
    • the number of virtual machines on the cluster
    • the average use of the high VMS using cpu processor page
      • It calculates the average CPU utilization of all virtual machines on the cluster
      • He selects the virtual machines that use more than this average utilization of the processor
      • It calculates the average use of the these albums VMs-use of cpu processor
    • a theoretical value of the use of cpu for a single virtual machine, by dividing the above "average high of virtual machines using cpu processor utilization" by the number of virtual machines on the cluster
    • Finally, it takes the ability to 'real' of the bunch, subtracts CPU utilization of the high VMS using cpu processor of the 'average' page and divides it by the 'cpu use theoretical value for a single virtual machine"

Note that this is an indicationand not an exact science, of how much capacity you have left in your cluster.

There are other formulas used to calculate indicators.

  • VMware Capacity Planner: Not enough data.

    Dear friends,

I have faced a problem with Vmware Capacity Planner. I get the error message no sufficient data not collected. But I can see nominative colleacted under the name of the company. I can view the files downloaded and processed inventory and performance. In addition, the report tab is not functional.

    Please do not advise.

    Thank you

    Pravesh

CP sends always properly deltas of the inventory of what I have seen in the past.

If you have added servers and they show OK in the report of missing data, then forcing a complete inventory should do the trick. The thing is that you must activate it in the right place. If you do a MANUAL synchronization, you must select the full inventory of strength under modules. If you wait for the next scheduled synchronization, you do it under scheduled tasks.

Ignore the suggestion of proxy. If some of the data is how to get there, then internet proxy settings are correct.

  • Capacity Planner - no report?

    Hi all

I'm doing my first run with Capacity Planner and I run a CBS for our internal environment as a test.  The collector has worked for several weeks and it seems to work fine (data, logs display the data are synchronized, reports run).  However when I connect to http://optimize.vmware.com I can't generate all reports.  If I open the dashboard of company I see data (lists systems, performance indicators, etc.) and the company status that it y 24 systems to consider.  The 'Reports' tab is dimmed and does not respond to clicks.

I'm sure that a few step or the configuration is missing, but I can't understand what it is.  If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

    Thanks for your time,

    Amanda

Maybe you should check to define your project... whether the server or desktop.

Then choose or define the target server that you want to include in the reports.

(administration-> my project->, and then choose your project)
