Capture an image from a machine under windows 2000 server during production

Hello

We are looking to capture an image of a server windows 2000 (with sp4) has sql 2005 standard installed on it.  I've done a few machines and windows 2003 during production, while I used the converter and no problems.  Does anyone have experience with windows 2000?  I know that on windows 2000, a reboot is required.

We bring the image into a villas of test to test the upgrade of the operating system to windows 2003.  Once satisfied, redo us the same process and will have ESXi host computer.

BTW, the converter is version 3.03.

Thank you

Can someone confirm that during the capture of the image, the (any) services, sql, etc. on the operating system will continue to operate?

I ran a test and see no problem but I just want to know that.

I have captured many images of a windows 2003 while the services windows, sql server, etc. will work perfectly during the process.

Yes, the services are still running.  However, it is normally recommended that you disable the services as much as possible.   If you have a lot of traffic to the server, the conversion may fail half way through.  And of course, all the changes bring users to data cannot be included in the image/converted data.  If the conversion is for dev/test, then it may be acceptable.

When I did my hot clones, it was generally after hours so that I can disable the SQL and other services.  I've done a few hot clones with services running, but there is no user logged in, so very little traffic to the title of the conversion machine.

  • How to import a profile from another machine under Windows 7

I have a new Windows 7 computer and the hard drive from my old computer (XP) the old hard drive is not bootable, but I can see my old Firefox profile.

    I did export profile.

I would ideally like to just copy that the old profile for my new Firefox setup but Win 7 will not let me browse to folder. (c:\Users\ (name) change Data.

What I would like is essentially a function of full import where I could access the old profile and have Firefox just copy everything in? Such a thing exists? Is there another way to do what I'm doing?

    Thank you.

First of all, make sure you have Windows 7 set to view hidden files and foders, for more details on how to do that see http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial151.html

You can copy selected files of the old profile folder in your profile folder, for details, see recovering data from an old profile.

A lot of files in the profile folder will be automatically generated when required, it is best to allow Firefox to create these files and simply copy those containing data such as bookmarks and passwords as shown in the article above.

  • Lion running as a virtual machine under Windows (in front of the normal).

Long story short, I'll install Windows (natively) on my MBA (lots of reasons - application compatibility, management files, etc.) but would like to have OS X on the side to play with. Anyone have any experience using OS X Lion in a virtual machine under Windows? Since it IS an Apple computer brand, I think it would be legal Yes? I'm guessing there will be VM Tools, but again, since it is an MBA, the drivers should be built anyway?

    Thank you

First VMware does not support Mac OS x (and version) running under Windows!

Mac OS X Lion, which is preinstalled cannot be legally virtualized and to virtualize Mac OS X Lion, you need to have a copy that was purchase on the App Store or on USB and then can only be virtualized on Mac OS X Lion!

  • Machine virtual Windows 2000, ftdisk errors and BSOD (twice a month)

    Hello

We have a Windows 2000 SP4 installed to server with all possible updates of Microsoft Windows updates.  It's in our vSphere 4.1 environment which consists of 3 4.1 ESX hosts connected to an EMC SAN with NFS data warehouses.  Every once in a while ago and only this particular virtual machine will go belly up.  Basically, end-users will start to meet execution errors in their application.  Thus, we check the VM and notice a lot of pop-up windows and errors in the system for ftdisk event log (Event ID 50 {Lost Delayed-write-data}).  It gets to a point where you can not do anything in the server, then you will have to hard it turned off.

After reboot, it will display the Windows 2000 splash screen and then a BSOD will appear with INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.  Whatever the choice of Safe mode, safemode w / Networking, last known good, etc...  Also try to attach ISO or a physical CD often freezes the vSphere client so hard to my intel core i7 PC for ever the same displays a CTRLALTDEL Task Manager.

So the solution is to mount a this machine VMDK file to another virtual machine, then run a chkdsk on it, then remove.  To power up the virtual machine Windows 2000, he finally fill the trunk and automatically run a chkdsk on other partitions and difficulty many files, indexes, security descriptors, etc.  The server is online and the hosted application works very well.

Audit in the newspapers, it seems that it has happened with this frequency (looking ftdisk warnings)

    02/11/2010 to 03/11/2010

    05/10/2010 to 06/10/2010

    29/09/2010 to 01/10/2010

    23/09/2010

So it's a little sporadic.  The server gets used exactly the same every week, is not as if he was not less any activity between the 10/6 and 11/2, where it doesn't have the bomb on at all.

Any idea on what is happening here?  If it were a real physical server, it would be all point to a failure of hard drive or scsi controller.  However, it is on an ESX host, as well as many other machines to talk to the same San, and nothing else has a problem.  It comes to our Windows 2000 Server only in our environment, everything else is 2003 or 2008.  The config for this VM problem is:

    1024 MB

    1 PROCESSOR

    4 MB OF VRAM

    VMCI limited

Controller of BusLogic SCSI parallel 0

30 GB thin provisioned SCSI (0:0) hard drive 1

    "Flexible" network adapter

Nothing special or notable outside of a default virtual machine configuration.

Thanks for your comments.  This one is perplexing.  Is not as we can 'swap hard disk.  Were in discussions with the vendor of the application for a migration to Server 2008, but I don't know when that will be possible (if this year or the first quarter of next year).

If you change names like this - ethernet also remove NIC ghost?

It is likely that your changes produces one or more of them - please check.

I cleaned some entries in your existing file and transferred.

  • Migration of the domain controller Active Directory of windows 2000 server to a Server 2008.

I have an old machine that is running Windows 2000 server and it's our only one domain controller in a mixed 2000/2003/2008 server environment. I would like to move to one of the servers 2008 Active Directory and make the PDC and withdraw from the old box of 2000.

I saw a sea of documentation about the updated/move ActiveDirectory, but no clear examples of what I need to accomplish.

Can I do a dcpromo on a 2003 server, synchronization of the 2000 box, retire the 2000 Server, then dcpromo th 2008 Server 2003 Server? I know this may seem simplistic to a complicated procedure, but I have not really found anything to support...

A simple link to a procedure taken care of step by step would be great.

Thanks for all the ideas in advance.

  • VCB with Windows 2000 Server before and after! Does not!

In our configuration (esx3.5, vi2.5 and vcb 1.5) we have problems get the pre post scripts running in Windows 2000 Server. It does not at all pre/start scripts. We need this because we have some strange databases that must be stopped before the snapshot and started after.

The 2000 machine is fully updated, and the esx servers are updated 4.

I also tried in a test environment with esx3i fully updated (beyond update 4) and vcb1.1

Pre-Post controls work perfectly in 2003 (not yet tested in 2008).

    What I tried:

    • Disable-ing the SyncDriver (must be a solution for Server 2000 with Exchange 2000)

    • Place scripts to a location different (C:\WINNT or C:\Windows or C:\Program VMware Tools\backupScripts.d

    • Adding C:\Program VMware Tools\backupScripts.d to the $PATH variable so that the script can be run from anywhere

    • Reinstall the VMWare tools.

The command I used to get the backup:

    v h vcbMounter.exe *. n u .local \n*-ipaddr:vcbtest. .local - r c:\vcb\vcbtest-full-01 t m nbd fullvm

    I also tried adding the switch "0 q" or "q 1".

No solutions seem to work. Does anyone have any ideas?

It works for me with a C:\Windows folder (even if windows is installed in C:\winnt),

Hello and thank you for reading this note.  First time poster here. Please excuse the bad post...

I was given a Dell PowerEdge 2650 (dual Xeon), which has been deleted.  There is a license sticker on top for Windows 2000 Server..., but this product is no longer available from Dell.  Technical support proposed contacting Microsoft about the availability of an installation CD.

  • RVL200 and Windows 2000 Server - can not access network resources via VPN

I am new to the VPN, and I feel I'm missing something very basic in my configuration. I just installed a RVL200 as the gateway for my corporate network router.  The network includes a Windows 2000 Server that acts as server DHCP and several PC and a printer.  I was able to "establish a SSL VPN tunnel" home connection to the router, but after recording in everything I see is the screen of virtual Passage - one with lock icons - otherwise I am inside the router.  The statement shows that I am connected.  Once the tunnel is established, what am I supposed to do to get computers to the computers on my network?  I can ping all computers on the network using their LAN address.  I'm supposed to see a choice of network resources to get to this point?  I put the router as a trusted site in the server and even tried to disable all firewalls, but I see that the VPN screen with icons.  I don't know how to proceed from here because I don't know what I'm supposed to see.  Thanks for any help that you can give to a newbie!

The SSL connection is only for the VPN router. To access the computer, you can use Windows Remote Desktop connection. So that you can access to remote computers on the network, or you could look for 3 third-party software for remote access

    Hope this helps

We took the 8i/windows 2000 server and import export in 10g / windows 2003 server.

I created the empty database in 10g (sys, sysaux, temporary table space) and

made other tablespaces from the database of parnet with autoextet

    When importing in 10 g / windows server 2003, it throws IMP-00015

After importing all trying to connect to other databases using db link (created before export), the error message is ora-02019.

HOW TO GET ALL THE privileges to use & roles (sys & object) after importation.

Another thing is to know how to check the integrity of a database after importing in 10g.

What are the steps I need to take before exporting?

I have disabled all triggers before importation, what I need to do before exporting?

I activated all triggers after the import.
