Care about disk HARD of Satellite 4030CDT

Hello

I own a laptop Satellite 4030CDT. It runs under Windows 98 SE.

I would like to upgrade its default disk (4 or 6 GB, I don't know now) to something bigger, so I can install Linux next to the existing Windows partition.

Can anyone here give me the specs should I look for in a new drive? Thermal or limitation of power, I should look for?
All versions of the BIOS should I put up-to-date? (one of my friends said that if the BIOS is old enough (this computer was purchased around 1999) then it does not take in charge the larger disks).

The two changes I've done with it so far are:
1 update the BIOS to the latest version from last year, to make it possible from the CD.
2 installed 128 MB of additional memory, so now he has 192Mo (as I understand is the maximum possible).

Thank you

-Amos

Hi Amos

You are right on the RAM. For this unit 192 MB of RAM is max.

As much as I know there is not any specification of maximum size of HARD drive that can be used for this device. This kind of solutions providers HDD are competent. Please take a few information on the net and you will find specific information on this subject.

I found on this HARD disk a single seller in my country has 20 GB and 30 GB HARD drive for this model of laptop.

  • Update disk on the Satellite 4030CDT

    Hello!

First "Sorry!" for asking such a stupid question.

I've Googled, manuals, forums, eBay... but nowhere find an answer exactly. I have an old laptop Satellite 4030CDT. I want to change the old 4, 3 GB of hard drive for a bigger to use it as an MP3 player and musicvideo in my bathroom.

Can what type of hard drive (space) I use? Is it possible to use a higher than 40 GB HDD? The latest version of the BIOS is installed but I have found no info on higher disk space. Hope someone could help me.
Thank you and greetings from the Germany
    Micha

    Hello Mich

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find much info on this old laptop model. According to some info on the net this laptop was designed in 1999 and you must understand that there is not much info on these books.

I don't really know what is the capacity of HARD drive max, that you can use, but if you need it for music I think only 20 or maybe 30 GB should be enough and I hope that the full capacity will be recognized correctly.

20 GB hard drives are more expensive and you can get n eBay for little money. Buy one and test it with your good old classic.

    Bye and good luck!

  • Problem creating the disk hard recovery Satellite A200 + touch pad

So I lent my laptop to my daughter until she could get enough to buy a PC.
Well, I got it back that only she has installed a bunch of stuff to the point where it is blowing on vista even after than my attempts to clean I decided to start the laptop using the creation of recovery disk came with the laptop.

But now, I used about 8 dvd discs, trying to create a good drive but I restart fr. with the disc in... nothing happens. I'm trying to spend directly in vista... and he says can not read the disc. I've recreated the disc several times and the same result and well, it was the only type of restore disc that came with the laptop]

Also as I've gotten at the time when I use the touchpad my cursor is jumping around, is that fixable?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Sorry, but something must be wrong in your post. As far as I know Satellite A200 comes with original Toshiba Recovery DVD. You should not create anything. New laptops like A300 do NOT come with DVD recovery and each laptop user, it should only create, but not with Toshiba Disc Creator. For this Toshiba application offers another tool. The name is Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator. It is not the same tool. So you have probably original Toshiba drive.

So if you have it please use this recovery DVD as described in this thread:

  • Question about drive HARD on Satellite L300 recovery

Buy laptop 3 months ago, my son's homework top (40 pages). Laptop has suddenly stopped working. When I try to boot to the top he tries to boot the laptop into repair mode, load files, will load vista then I do gray screen saying (system recovery options) installed program cannot start turn off computer.

Through each f8 routine and only interest is to disable automatic restart in the event of system failure where I get the error message: Stop oxoooooo24 (ox00190444, ox85a6bdeo, oxc0000102, 0x00000000).

Didn't create Toshiba Recovery disk called received set loaded file, it comes finally to a point where them continue it will erase all data on disk. Which is what I don't want. Then takes the disc, but it had loaded enough drivers to allow me to take a look in the back. When I look for drive C, return with an unreadable messagesaying. When I look in the D drive and there are files including a saying HARD drive recovery. (I guess that vista automatically disk partitions)

In all cases any suggestions? There is a single file that I need, which is a document works (wps). Is there anyway I can retrieve the d ' training in HARD drive through back recovery? any suggestions?
If I run the recovery disk it delete both partitions or just work on C:, then through D: I maybee able to recover the document?

    Hello

As I see you have tested all the options using F8.
This means that you have tested safe mode?
You can start a computer laptop in safe mode?

If your work is saved on partition D, you can start recovery facility (F8 fix my computer) and Vista will install again, but all the data saved on the D partition will be there again.
-When you use the recovery disk - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm C partition will be deleted only.
-When you use recovery DVD will be formatted the whole HARD disk.

  • How to remove a disk HARD of Satellite Pro A10

Need for a user to remove the hard drive from an A10 but im in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Can anyone help me with instructions / pictures? Can't find any information anywhere,

    Any help much appreciated!

    Hello

It of not so difficult to remove the HDD of the unit.
Take a look at the bottom of the machine. In the middle of the left side, you will find two screws. You must remove the two visible screws and the little cover. After this process, you find another screw. Remove it. Now you can take out the HARD drive.
For more information, you must contact the service partner.

  • How to reset the password disk HARD on Satellite Pro L300

A friend of mine lost her husband in December.

BIOS password can be reset, but HARD drive password is problematic and, as much as I know, cannot be deleted or reset.

  • Satellite Pro L20 - disk hard keeps spinning down

Hi, I have recently updated the BIOS on my Toshiba Satellite Pro L20, and I noticed that the disk hard keeps spinning down after about a minute, even while typing or surfing on the internet. I checked the power settings Windows XP and have it put on the desk, with the time 'Disable hard drive' set to 5 minutes when it is plugged and 5 minutes on battery (I always use on the same network). I checked the BIOS settings to see if there is something listed there, but there are no settings for hard disk power management in the BIOS.

Although the turning down of the hard disk does not affect performance, I fear that it may be to focus on rising constant power drive / descent.
The new version of BIOS is 25 April 06 Windows Bios Update for Satellite L20 (PSL2X), Satellite Pro L20 (PSL2Y) and Equium L20 (PSL2Z)', or a file 2, 20 - WIN.

I think that it s nothing unusual that the HARD drive keeps spinning down applies none or BONES need the HARD disk activity.
In addition, the turning down of the HARD drive has no effect from the bottom on the performance of the HARD disk or over the life of the HARD drive.

  • L830-10U - disk sectors HARD rellocated satellite

    Hello

I recently bought a PC toshiba laptop Satellite L830-10U. The laptop is only two months and all of a sudden, he has begun to respond very slowly. I was a tool to check the hard disk and SMART my said that the HARD drive has 2312 rellocated sectors.

So, you could tell me the official tools to check the hardware? Do I have to leave my laptop at my shop?

    Thank you very much.

    > So can you tell me the official tools to check the hardware?

    Official tools?
I can recommend you to download the freeware tool called disk HARD Drive Fitness Test
With this tool, you can check the HARD drive for a possible malfunction.

In case your HARD drive is defective, I recommend that you contact the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country. Because the laptop is covered by the standard warranty, the defective HARD drive be replaced free of charge.

  • Satellite A200-1CR: Question about upgrade HARD drive

    Hi all...
I would like to ask something...

I have toshiba Satellite A200-1cr with 120 GB HARD drive...

I would like to change my HARD drive. I found a disk hard 2.5 "with 250 GB.

    My questions are the following:

    (1) my knowledge of the workstations are very very good. Is it easy to change myself?
I guess it is, but I want to be sure... I guess that is on IDE, right? No SATA at all?

    (2) if I changed it I lose my warranty?

    (3) can I give my laptop Toshiba in Greece official store and let them make the change?
May I take in an informal shop, too?

    (4) can be put on the laptop 2 x 250 GB such US new computers laptops from toshiba?
Is there enough space in the laptop for such a change?

    Thank you in advance...

    Hey Buddy

It is good that ask you the question.

    (1) the Satellite A200-1CR supports SATA and no IDE interface and that's why you need a SATA HDD. It of really not difficult to replace the HARD drive and as far as I know, you should find a few details in the user manual. There is a useful statement and photos that explain the entire procedure.

    (2) hm AFAIK the drive replacement HARD will not void the warranty, and has no effect on the State of security.

    (3) you can also contact the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country for a HARD drive replacement, but in my opinion that is not really necessary because the replacement is not very sensitive. As I said above, check the user manual.

    (4) I don t think that your laptop will support 2 x 250 GB HARD drive.
Of course, there are a few other series laptops which are abele to support two hard drives but I n t think that your laptop A200 support.

Just a small comment on the new HARD drive:
The fact is that some more HARD drive are not supported by the BIOS. I mean an upgrade to 120 GB to 250 GB drive HARD is really a leap one possibly your BIOS would not recognize the HARD drive correctly.
So I recommend to test the HDD first before buying.

    Good bye

  • Update on the Satellite 2550 & Satellite 4030CDT

    Hello!

I whant to uprgade both of this old laptop, and I need to know the maximum installable material.
    (1) how much RAM I can install on them? Says card 128 MB, but what if I update to bios?
    (2) and what the installable maximum capacity of HARD drive? In the other forum, I found 4030 with 10 GB of HARD drive, but I think that this is not the limit.
    (3) to 4030 CPU installed in the MMC1 location, what is high CPU of the page who might be working there? In my dead laptop battery pack and the two 10.8V. Then I bought every new battery Toshiba and replace them?
It is not bootable USB 4) in two books. How can I solve this problem? If I buy PCMCIA SATA or USB controller will boot them?
    (5) I take a look at the inside in my laptop and I found two small rounded cells in 4030. What are doing?
    (6) such a USB port that installed on two laptops is 1.1 and I can't do anything to upgrade?

    Thanks in advance! ZAC

Official statement is 4 GB HDD for Satellite 2550CDT and satellite 2590CDT 6 GB HARD drive.
It is not easy to find these info, but maybe you can use 10 GB of HARD drive. I don't know about you.
The BIOS update has nothing to do with it and new version of the BIOS is not designed to increase the values of upgrade hardware, but to correct serious problems.

According to the specification of the computer laptop Satellite 2550CDT has Celeron 366 CPU and Satellite 2590CDT Celeron 400. Both processors have the same bus clock I presume that you can upgrade the processor Celeron 400.

With disk HARD is the same. Official statement is 4 GB. You can try to install 10 GB. I have not found information on processors. He is almost 11 portable model and to pick up some info relevant is nothing but mission impossible. ;)

Try to contact the nearest authorized in the hope that they can help, but, to be honest, I'm not sure they're going to waste their time with these oldies.
    --------------------------------------------------

    (4) there is nothing to fix, because it isn't a feature not work type. These oldies can't boot from the USB port. And how you want to enable the PCMCIA port work like port bootable? Forget it.

    (6) maybe using PCMCIA card with USB 2.0 ports

  • I want to make three partitions of disk on the Satellite A200 - 1 GB

    Hi all

Last night I noticed that there is a small sound comes out when the hard drive is being read. The its same as the desktop sound disk hard drive. In desktop HARD drive is normal.

I thought that laptop HDD looks not that she even has the same hard disks of office technology.

    Is this also normal thing?

The other thing is I thought to divide my second partition (drive D) into two partitions, because I can then have three separate partitions.
If I using disk management it will give any question?

In the desktop, I did a lot of operations on disk with Win XP, but I have no experience on mobile phones. is there a difference between desktops and laptops running Windows XP Home edition?

I hope I can divide my second (93 GB) partition in two 45-GB & 45 GB.
Someone can give some idea about it and is any body have done this surgery?

    > Last night I noticed that there is a small sound comes out when the hard drive is being read. The its same as the desktop sound disk hard drive. In desktop HARD drive is normal. S of my laptop HARD drive makes a sound strong and 2 years it worked ok.
I presume that it s no big deal due to the fact that the A200 is not an old series and the HARD drive is new.

    > The other thing is I thought to divide my second partition (drive D) into two partitions, because I can then have three separate partitions. If I using disk management it will give any question?

No everything should work. But I think that XP OS is not able to create a HARD disk partition. You will need to use a 3rd party as if by magic the 8 Partitions for example program.

    > Desktop computer, I did a lot of operations on disk with Win XP, but I have no experience on mobile phones. Is there a difference between desktops and laptops running Windows XP Home edition?
Feel free to create a partition.

Use the magic of Partitions 8

  • A few questions on its use with the Satellite 4030CDT

I'm not very computer saavy. We have an old satellite 4030cdt. My son wants to use it to access the internet. What should I get to this point? We have the possibility to connect to internet wireless in the House with another laptop. In addition, the screen is not complete on the laptop. How do we get an extension on the screen. We tried to do it via the control panel and settings but us will not change it.

    Hello

Maybe you should first check all the components in the Device Manager and make sure the drivers are installed. It will be interesting to know what operating system is preinstalled on this old notebook. Please let me know.

If I remember well that laptop has no LAN card. Am I right about that? If yes then I recommend to buy the PCMCIA LAN card. Install properly and you can connect to your router and enjoy Internet at full speed.

To be honest, I don't know what you mean with the larger image on the screen. Perhaps you should choose the standard screen resolution lower resolution screen, but on this laptop is 1, 024 x 768 and I think it should be OK.
