Catalogue Lightroom 5 cannot be opened because it is already opened in another application?
No matter what I do, I can't get Lightroom 5 to open because of this statement "the Lightroom catalog named"lightroom 5 Catalogue"cannot open another application already has its opening." Leave the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch. My choices are "Choose a different catalog" "continue" and "Exit".
There are no other programs running. Problem still continues with computer security products uninstalled. There is no catalog 'different '. I tried "open a new catalog, but any attempt to move the files to a new catalogue were doomed to failure. I'm about to uninstall and reinstall, but I'm going to lose my history of changes to my library. Someone at - it advice.
This normally happens after an abnormal termination of Lightroom (ie. an accident).
In the directory where your catalog is stored will be a file with the same name as your catalog, but with the extension. LOCK. yourcatalogname.lock.
Rename this file to something else and then try to start Lightroom.

Catalogue Lightroom can't open because she is still open to another application
Since yesterday I can not open Lightroom. It is said that the Lightroom Catalog is unable to open because it is still open in another application. When I look at I have no active programs. All this began after I had force stopped because the PC got stuck. Anyone for help? THX!
When Lightroom is opened, a lock file is created to prevent third parties to access the catalogue. Normally, this file will be deleted when you close Lighroom, but if she's not close properly because of a freeze or a power failure, it could not be deleted. You will then get an error message saying that the catalog is open in another application, and you can not launch LR.
Using the Explorer/Finder, navigate to the folder that contains your catalog.
Delete the file that ends with .lock. Do not remove anything else. Now, try Lightroom.

Lightroom catalog cannot be opened because it is open in another application already
Anyone have helpful advice as to why I can't get my Lightroom CC catalog to open because is already open in another application.
Looks like you are using LR 6 to open a catalog of LR 5. If that's what you do, the message would be OK asking you to confirm that you want to migrate your data to the new format for LR 6.

Lightroom does not open, says it is open in another application.
Depending on your operating system, use Windows Explorer or the Finder to open the folder containing your catalog. In this folder, you will find a file with the same name as your catalog, but with .lock extension. This file should be deleted, and then you will be able to start Lightroom.

I received an email with 3 accessories, 2 images and 1 PDF. I am trying to open larger photos and I get the message, "we are unable to open this file. You want to save and try to open with another application? »
Why can't click a picture in the mail app and have it launch a photo viewing application. ?What you need to do is to go to control panel > programs > by default of the programs > set your default programs. Or search for programs by default, which must raise I have right as well (just start typing on the splash screen or slide from left to right and click on the search button). Go to the photos and select set this program as default. This fixed it for me.

I have a Photoshop file with an Illustrator "Space bound" file inside. When I double-click on it to edit, the file opens in another application. No Illustrator. I checked the Illustrator file extension and it's AI. I went to the file origin and 'Open with' and FormZ (.fmz) is the default application. ! ? In the same dialog box, I chose other and set it to Illustrator and always checked off "use this app to open. Save the file and tried to open the file in Photoshop. Same problem occurs. FormZ is still the default app when I go back and check. Help.
Try to go to ctrl/cmd-k Bridge preferences, click the make file type Associations tab you files HAVE associated with AI.

How do I solve this problem
"Could not open the file" *. " INDD. Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format is maybe missing or the file may be open in another application."
It turns out that a Windows computer has been infected by a virus that worked its way to the server. We zapped the virus and restore the backup files.

BUT: another application is NOT open. The LR6 reinstalling did not help.
Will have to make an important presentation on 02.07.2015. Thks.
Hello
You must go to the location where your Lightroom Catalog is stored and remove the .lock (not the .lrcat file) file and then launch Lightroom.
By default, Lightroom Catalog is stored in the Pictures\Lightroom folder

Lightroom catalog cannot be opened. WHY?
My computer crashed. Lightroom is now ask me to re - enter the serial number of my software (I bought it before the set monthly subscription thing) and then telling me "cannot open the Lightroom catalog called"Lightroom Catalog"because is another application already open." I gives me the ability to "choose a different catalog", "continue" or "quit". There is no other catalog, I only have one created. I click on 'continue' and nothing DON'T get PAST. The message window will Flash, and here I am watching the same error message that gives me the same options to "choose another catalogue", "continue" or "quit".
WHY CAN I NOT ACCESS MY PROGRAM OF LIGHTROOM? HOW CAN I FIX?
It should be noted I tried clicking on the three options. "Choose a different catalog" simply evokes a directory showing what I already knew; that I don't have that one catalog. 'exit', of course, leaves through the window. I also shot to the top of my task manager to verify that no other programs/applications were running, so I don't know yet, I received this message from another application have my Lightroom Catalog open in the first place.
Help, please
It worked!
Simply by removing the file ".lock" with the same name 'error' catalogue spoke, I again was able to access Lightroom.Side note: My mistake of 'catalogue' began to appear after my computer crashed as well.
Thanks for the advice everyone! penderra Hal P Anderson farriswlphotos

I think that I have to reinstall Lightroom. I can't open. I am a Member subscription Adobe CC and run years LR on Win 8.1 PS platform. (PS open correctly.)Error Msg: "the catalog cannot be opened due to an unexpected error?" What is the error?
Yes, I'm really, really new to this company!
Hi flylooper,
This seems to be a problem with this catalogue.
Launch of Lightroom with the command button and choose the option to create a new catalog
If you are able to create a new catalog, then go to file menu > import from another catalog > choose your main catalog to import data from.
Or, you can search for a recent catalog backup and verify if you are able to open that.

Hello
What version of Lightroom do you use?
With Lr closed go to the location where your Lightroom Catalog (by default it is pictures/Lightroom)
Delete the. Lock file with the same name as your catalog. For example, in the image below, it is Lightroom4 catalog.lrat.lock
In your case, it will be Lightroomcatalog.lrcat.lock.Delete it
Restart Lightroom.
Let us know if this helps

To move the catalog to a new computer, you do not need to import using Lightroom, you can copy the entire folder to the new location.
