Lightroom catalog cannot be opened because it is open in another application already

Anyone have helpful advice as to why I can't get my Lightroom CC catalog to open because is already open in another application.

Looks like you are using LR 6 to open a catalog of LR 5. If that's what you do, the message would be OK asking you to confirm that you want to migrate your data to the new format for LR 6.

    It should be noted I tried clicking on the three options. "Choose a different catalog" simply evokes a directory showing what I already knew; that I don't have that one catalog. 'exit', of course, leaves through the window. I also shot to the top of my task manager to verify that no other programs/applications were running, so I don't know yet, I received this message from another application have my Lightroom Catalog open in the first place.

    It worked!
    Simply by removing the file ".lock" with the same name 'error' catalogue spoke, I again was able to access Lightroom.

    Side note: My mistake of 'catalogue' began to appear after my computer crashed as well.

    This seems to be a problem with this catalogue.

    Launch of Lightroom with the command button and choose the option to create a new catalog

    If you are able to create a new catalog, then go to file menu > import from another catalog > choose your main catalog to import data from.

    Or, you can search for a recent catalog backup and verify if you are able to open that.

    There are no other programs running. Problem still continues with computer security products uninstalled. There is no catalog 'different '. I tried "open a new catalog, but any attempt to move the files to a new catalogue were doomed to failure.     This normally happens after an abnormal termination of Lightroom (ie. an accident).

    In the directory where your catalog is stored will be a file with the same name as your catalog, but with the extension. LOCK.  yourcatalogname.lock.

    Rename this file to something else and then try to start Lightroom.

    Did you remove you the lock file and tried to open it?

    I recently upgraded from LR3 LR4 to, at the same time spend a Mac on a Windows computer.

    I use LR4 successfully for the past weeks, including yesterday.  But today, as I tried to open LR4, two things happened: 1) the window that contains recently opened catalogs only showed my very newest catalog, not others as is usually done, and 2) when I tried to 'open the catalog different' I got an error message.  The error message said: "the Lightroom catalog named '{catalog name}' cannot open another application already has its opening.»  Leave the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch.

    I have only one copy of LR, this is why it confuses me.

    I thought that maybe there was a little problem somewhere, so I opened the task Mgr "End task" on Lightroom and try again.  Problem was, he showed that LR did not work (it wasn't because I clicked on 'exit' when I received the error message says, who have released the program).  Thought that was weird, so I restarted the computer, thinking that might help.  That did not work.

    I googled my problem and found a somewhat similar situation, in which the person uninstalled/reinstalled LR and everything was back to normal.  I tried this as well, but it did not work.

    I always get the same exact error, if I try to open the LR catalog, or go to the folder that contains the catalog and clicking on that.

    Any thoughts?  I am very frustrated and I have a lot of images to process this week.  (I miss my Mac)

    When Lightroom is opened, a lock file is created to prevent third parties to access the catalogue. Normally, this file will be deleted when you close Lighroom, but if she's not close properly because of a freeze or a power failure, it could not be deleted. You will then get an error message saying that the catalog is open in another application, and you can not launch LR.

    Using the Explorer/Finder, navigate to the folder that contains your catalog.

    Delete the file that ends with .lock. Do not remove anything else. Now, try Lightroom.

I tried to re-boot my computer, but it did not work.

    Thanks Geoff. I was finally able to locate the "." lrcat.lock' of the relevant folder to the catalog I want to open. Once I deleted it, LR5 was able to access my images. Problem solved. Thank you

    The catalogue may not close properly the last time you used it.

    Go to your LR folder (the default location is normally photos)

    If you see a file with the word LOCK delete it.

    There is a file with a name ending in. BLOCK in the same folder as your catalog Lightroom.

    Remove this item. LOCK file. Do not remove anything else.

    In the same folder that your catalog file is a file whose name ends with .lock

    Delete this .lock file

    DO NOT REMOVE ANYTHING ELSE

    Why can't click a picture in the mail app and have it launch a photo viewing application. ?

    What you need to do is to go to control panel > programs > by default of the programs > set your default programs. Or search for programs by default, which must raise I have right as well (just start typing on the splash screen or slide from left to right and click on the search button). Go to the photos and select set this program as default. This fixed it for me.

    Try to go to ctrl/cmd-k Bridge preferences, click the make file type Associations tab you files HAVE associated with AI.
