CD-DVD LENS CLEANER: SAFE?

I'm shopping for a CD-DVD LENS CLEANER clean the laser, but I read conflicting advice about this. Some say it will scratch the goal and speed the dvd turns will do more damage than good.

Others say it's very good.

Some say use a disk brushless apparently makes Maxell (or for) but I can't find them on the Web.

Some suggest that if you feel comfortable to open the dvd player you can get some "Q-tips" and Windex.

But I need it for my computer not a DVD player. I have a Mac Pro Quad - Core Intel Xeon computer.

I can't open my computer to do the cleaning? I opened before installing the cartridge memory and others and I clean all that was visible and accessible. But I never paid attention to the laser. I think I saw where it is but seems difficult to access.

It is not really a great way to clean these, assuming that the problem is just a dirty lens and not a failed or failing laser.

The problem with the different cleaning methods that you can try without removing the drive pretty much only to remove dust from the lens (and you can't see how it's going) and a small area surrounding. In other words, a lot of dust is still left inside the unit and can cover the goal once again.

Fortunately, the optical drives are fairly easy to remove the large models of Mac Pro Tower. Remove side cover, grasp the optical drive of aluminum box is mounted in and simply pull it toward you. Turn it so that you can unplug the power/data cable and it came out.

How bold or you have experience determines whether or not you really want to try to manually clean the drive. But to really clean, undo you the screws that hold the drive in the carrier and remove the cover so that you can carefully blow dust out of the compartment of the entire disk. Then use a cotton swab and a cleaning solution that does not leave a film, like alcohol, peroxide, etc. to friction. Get the wet swab, not wet and gently rub the lens clean. Back up the disk and mount it in the Mac.

Keeping a clean and safe system is equivalent to good performance. How do you do that? There are several things you should do to ensure the best possibility to keep a clean, safe and very efficient machine:

    (1) install anti-malware software

    • There are a few very good available 'Free' programs that are fully automated and will help keep your system protected against malicious software. Some of them are listed here... .click on the link "Free Security Software links Index", then click on the link "Anti-virus".

    (2) safe online practice

    • "" Safe surfing"you really thinking very little. Using common sense can help here. Avoid unscrupulous websites. The "Web Of Trust" help you identify many of those if you CAN avoid the.

    (3) maintenance

    • Maintain your system by performing a disk cleanup and defragmentation on a regular basis.

Maintenance requires some planning. Your system accumulates debris on the web. "Debris", in the sense that many of these files are not necessary keep.

Get rid of this debris is a simple process. Microsoft Windows users will find the free utilities provided by Microsoft, in all "platforms", are very useful in helping users keep their systems. Those who are, disk cleanup and Disk Defragmenter. "You can find these tools by going to.
    All Programs--> Accessories--> System Tools

.. the are friendly and easy to use. However, I would like to clear up some confusion regarding the utility "Defragmenter". Many users will neglect a defragmentation of the system according to the results of analysis. I would like to address the:
"You don't need to defragment this volume."
.. .message referring to analysis of defragmentation.

You see, when Microsoft wrote that the utility for the Windows platform, there are two targets to consider. Those who are home and business users. Two very large markets, with very different "needs". Effort and the goal was to reach a middle ground by estimating the thresholds which would continue to work well for both customer bases without causing performance issues significant for no more, if one or the other duty live of these thresholds.

If I explained that well, then you might understand that the 'threshold' Microsoft chose for defragmentation utility will report either customer when fragmentation reached... Let's say it's about 20% (I don't really know WHAT it is, but I don't know it's wide enough) and anything under that will be reported as:
"You don't need to defragment this volume."

All this means, really, is that you can delay a defragmentation when an analysis of the analysis returns such a message... but that certainly does not mean that you shouldn't defrag.

As a general rule, I perform a full system defrag when my file fragmentation is over 3%. For me, it's about twice a week. For you, let's say they occur once a month. I don't know, only you, but you have to keep an eye on her (make ita habit) and see how long it takes to know your fragmentation at this level. It can vary greatly, because it depends on the number of files you create or delete and what type of applications that you run in a "normal" user session

E-mail, for example, is an application (if native or not) that causes the creation and deletion of files on the hard drive. If you use an online email client, think to "from the browser's cache" with regard to the number of emails downloaded and deleted. These are all files that are fragmented, they are on the hard disk, or make up the garbage in the browser cache, makes no difference... it's all the disk space again regardless of how you think of it.

Remember, even if you have your browser empty the temporary files when you close the value, the size of this file "dump" can waver, in order to clear the cache at the closing, the browser did perform better than the next browser session but does nothing to appease the disk fragmentation.

You see, if you do this, the system works well on each of its sessions.

In summary, install anti-virus software, surf safe practice and maintain your computer. Don't forget to clean the disc first, then perform the defragmentation otherwise you will sort the waste so that the free space fragmented and files.

Keep in mind these principles and your system will perform well give you years of enjoyable computing.

    Great tips! Thanks for sharing.

  • HP 15 G029CA: Drivers of CD/DVD to clean install

    Hello

I want to do a clean install of windows 7 64 on my HP15-G029CA (originally on win8)

I start the installation from a usb key but cannot do because it always asks for the CD/DVD drivers.

I have the hard drive (including the part of recovery) Chantilly

As I read on some posts here, it could be related to chipset or RAID drivers?

I am blind and I need help

    Model: 15-G029CA

    Product: F9J06UA #ABL

    Best regards

    Hello:

In addition to what Erico posted, you must:

    1. make sure legacy mode is enabled in the BIOS and safe start is disabled.  Windows 7 is not compatible with secure startup.  Check out this guide for which parameters to change.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03736054

    2. connect your USB key on one of the USB2 ports so that it works.  It won't boot from the port USB3.

  • 500-160 ev Pavilion (: dust cleaning safe?)

    Hello

recently, I was looking how can I clean my computer. I found that the vacuum and leaf blower creates static electricity and this can destroy my pc. is this true? Also, I've heard say that if I let my pc unplugged for 30 minutes, then use a blower of leaves 2-3 inches away from the computer it will be successfully. any suggestions? I can't find in my country the air less than 30 euros.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what country you live in but Amazon in the United Kingdom shows that price for compressed air.

    http://www.Amazon.co.UK/Star-Duster-compressed-flammable-400ml/DP/B000MQ7DZC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&QID=1428670773&SR=8-1&keywords=computer+cleaning+spray

Always make sure before you clean the inside of the box to turn off the pc correctly, unplug the power cord & it is preferable to use an anti-static strap just in case. For example, if the air is dry or if you have carpet etc.

You can take a cheap little about anywhere or online.

I wouldn't use a vacum. For small areas, I carefully use Q-Tips... but gently around in hard to reach places. Have done this for years without problems.

  • Satellite Pro 6100-> DVD playback is OK, but can not read CD

I have Toshiba Satellite pro 6100 and the reader of CD/DVD SD-C2502 on winxp sp2.
The drive did not read any CD/DVD at the outset.
After a DVD lens cleaner, it plays DVDs, but the Player cannot read any CD incl. music CD

The error is 'windows cannot read the disk. The disc is damaged or... ".

I "took off the CD/DVD drive and reconnected" and the pilot also seems to be OK.

    Any suggestions or ideas?

    Hello

This sound like a player cannot calibrate properly and that's why the drive cannot read the CD disks.
Especially the replacement drive is necessary and inevitable. :(

  • My CD/DVD drive reads CD but not DVD

    Hi all

I have a TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633M DVD player in my laptop and after about 6 months of use, the drive stopped reading/writing DVD. It still reads CDs fine and sometimes will read a DVD completely (without provocation and without warning...!) but is very skittish and stops randomly just to play a DVD. Often, the player will eject and give an error message tells me to insert a disc. I don't know what to do.

I am running Windows Vista 32-bit. I tried to run the Microsoft Fixit application, which recognizes that the drive is unable to read DVD but offers nothing more useful than and doesn't solve anything (despite its name...). I've read through a number of different forums and have found a range of advice: replace the disk, uninstall and reinstall the drivers or editing the registry. What should I do to solve this problem? Naturally, I would prefer not to have to replace the drive itself, but if it's the only way...

    Thanks in advance!

    Mangi

The registry thing only works if the drive is completely AWOL from the system so that it does not appear as a drive in "My Computer"... not your problem. The DVD and CD using different lasers and it is not uncommon to go wrong and the other not. You can check the operation of the DVD trying to boot from a bootable DVD. If you can not drive is bad and needs to be replaced. If it works sometimes and not others it could just need a good cleaning with a DVD lens cleaner.

  • 'No disc' error on the Toshiba BDX1200KY blu - ray player

(Sorry, there seems to be no jury of blu ray player)

I bought this drive blu - ray 3 months ago and a week ago I had a 'No Disc' error when I tried to play a DVD. The machine plays all my DVDs without problems before if is not a concern for the region. Now, he will not play one of my DVDs and they are all clean and intact. However, she still plays my blu ray discs without any problem. I bought a blu ray disc lenses cleaning hoping that would solve the problem, but it didn't. So, I bought a DVD lens cleaning disc but being a DVD itself, she also returned an error of 'no disc '.

The problem is that this is my second machine in about 6 months. Exactly the same thing happened with my previous Toshiba BDX1200KY and the electronic shop guys couldn't get out and gave me a replacement so it is very likely that the fault is mine.

These machines have distinct popsicles for Blu Ray and DVD? Can someone suggest a solution. I smoke and I often stop the machine. It is pointles continuing until I have it worked.

Unfortunately, it's a computer / laptop Forum options so I m afraid there is not a lot of people who can provide you with solutions

However, I put t think that this player is equipped with different laser lens it s a goal that must manage all disks

My player couldn't handle all the disks because the goal was dirty. I unmount the drive to access the lens and managed to clean it with a cotton tip and a little alcohol.
So it helped in my case

  • can not see CD

I've never been able to listen to a CD in my iMac (late 2009). Now, I have a CD of a doctor who says: display in Windows 2000 or later.

As usual when I place the CD in the drive, it is rejected.

On occasion I saw a DVD in this computer, but they are also often rejected.

the contents of the disc can only be read by Windows computers.

  • protect the computer against dust

My computer and the room gets a lot of dust for some reason any. I live in a room in a House for 8 months and I do not remember having dust so much and so often that when I lived in an apartment that I did all my life.

And the problems I had with the DVD does not, not recognized, etc. was simply resolve it using a DVD lens cleaner (a DVD with small brushes). After I used it, all my DVD which had problems (and no, I did not throw because I knew they were good) suddenly works without any problem whatsoever!

So I want to protect my computer at night when it is in "standby".

I put / hang a bag of plastic on the front and is held in place by putting a book on the "handle".

There is little space between the front of the computer and plastic: 5-7 cm (2 to 3 inches).

Is it enough so that air circulation? I remove when I use the computer. It's only the night.*

    * Even if I hear my computer every morning at 08:00 get up by himself (I guess that's the work that makes a computer normally (I forgot how you call it; maintenance?)) This will last a few minutes, and then it returns to standby mode. (or maybe it's this mode 'sleep'?)

That's the problem with an optical drive in the computer, the opening acts as a contribution to air cooling pushed by the fan at the back. Of course, this happens especially when the computer is actually being used. I don't know there is you can do otherwise when you drive dies finally go for an external hard drive in place.

You may notice that all installation failures, it always says "pk.3".

PS. you forgot to say that the problem comes from my desktop running Windows XP Home Edition. I go back to factory settings to see if I could cure the problem but, nothing works.

A quick google (assuming that D: is your CD/DVD drive) the most likely cause appears to be dirty scratched disks.

Read some of them for something in until an expert MS suggest something :-) -google search

    Things to check:

1 are the discs in good condition, all parts clean and free? If this is not the case, try to clean gently, taking care to not damage or scratch that them more in the process.

2 I guess its possible that your drive may be about to fail. you have another drive(maybe external drive) to try?, or maybe try one of these CD/DVD lens cleaning products and see if that helps.
