CDP neighbors

Hello

I was wondering if a configuration is as below

Cisco switch ted (FAS 1/2)-(port 1) switch (int fas 3/1) linksys router (Port 2) - cisco switch Red

When I do a neighbour of the cdp on one of the switches, I see another switch as a neighbor? If I say ted button, it will show a neighbor directly connected to FAS 3/1?

Please notify

Hello

CDP packets must move seamlessly in each Cisco switch no, because they are sent to a specific multicast MAC address. Like other Cisco switches are not listening on this multicast MAC address, they flood the frame just like any other image to an unknown destination.

CDP messages will pass not through routers (or better said, through routed ports) because they are not transported in IP packets and so they cannot be routed from one network to the other. The spread of CDP messages is always limited to the most a single broadcast domain.

In addition, if the Linksys device in the Middle does not include CDP, you will not see it in the output of show cdp neighbors . Instead, you should see the TED and RED switches in CDP lists directly.

Best regards
Peter

    Hi Joris,

It is a known problem and is documented as a cosmetic bug internal. Logically speaking, CDP is not supported on etherchannel interfaces and 'sh cdp port-channel' command should not be available.

The platform of 6500, although the "port channel show cdp neighbor" returns the result, it's just for convenience and does not mean that the CDP is supported on the port channels. In fact, if you try to enable CDP on port-channel on 6500, it generates an error:

    PO1 #int 6500 (config)

    6500(Config-if) #cdp en

% CDP is not supported on this interface, or for this encapsulation

If you run "debug cdp events", you can see the packets exchanged on the physical interface rather than on the port-channel. Correct way is to check the neighborship of the cdp on the physical interfaces.

    See you soon,.

    Shashank

  • Using CDP to create the network topology diagram

    Hi all

I'm a beginning network specialist and just thought I would throw this question and see if I can get some answers.  Well, I want to know how I can use CDP to find out our network topology so I can create diagrams and Visio diagrams, or if you know any free network discovery programs out there that can help?  Hey well any comments will be appreciated so thanks in advance and I look forward to hear something!

When you run 'sh cdp neighbors' it shows you all the devices connected directly. If you then "sh cdp neighbor detail" for each entry it will show the IP address of the connected device. You can then connect to this and do the same thing all the way throiugh your network.

I think that the COP may be useful for this, but you're relying on the CDP running on all devices. Sometimes it has been disabled for security reasons one must always be aware that there may be devices that do not display.

As mentioned SNMP is another alternative, but still once, this assumes that SNMP has been put in place the device esch.

So just be aware that you can not always get the full picture, but a combination of--

    (1) CDP

    (2) SNMP

    (3) running the determination of route router hops show but not L2 switch.

You should get most of the information. Also, be aware that the internal firewall tend to dirty such things as well.

  • Display of the I/O on NGC neighbors?

When I have connections to connect to the Web via command line, I can 'connect nxos' and 'show cdp neighbors '.  Makes a great job showing me Ethernet switches to the North and connections N1K.  I would do the same for Fibre Channel connections... See who is linking MDS my UCS.

I can do this also in the installation of NXOS?

Yes, it is an excellent method to determine the actual switch to which it is connected. The flogi on the switch database will show you the real port. But the switch you need to access this part.

  • What device is my node connected to (CLI)?

I am currently engaged in trying to find what my current node device is connected to and which interface of this device, I am connected to know

-I know not how to telnet (using putty)

-I can prompt CMD and ipconfig/all to get my information from devices (and default gateway)

    -I understand ping/apr/cdp neighbors

However, using these tools, I can't quite seem to put togeather how to find the next immediate device and the port I am connected to without that direct switch IP address on site.

Make sure that the Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) is enabled globally on the switch (run cdp) and on each port (cdp enable). These are the default settings, but may have been disabled for security reasons. Launch Wireshark, filter by cdp packet type and move from one port to the other. Give CDP packets you change your name, IP, IOS version management, and what port you are connected to (among others).

  • How to check the system configuration of the SX20 if the touch screen and the remote control does not work

Hello friends, would like to know how can we access/check the system configuration of the SX20 if we not touch and remote control or they are not in working condition.

I think that we can check this Switch interface, but unfortunately, I don't have access to the local switch right now.

    Hello

option is to have access to the local switch and run "show cdp neighbors detail."

    or

Connect the mobile to PC/computer LAN, run tftpd32 with affected DHCP pool. Then you can login to get the config.

  • Switch P 52 SG500 - web interface shows the wrong model and disconnects randomly

    Ladies and gentlemen!

One of our network switches is a SG500 switch 52p that recently started showing strange behavior.

It started with the problem was not more accessible via its web interface. Even if it was running perfectly well access via a web browser finished in wait times.

After resetting the factory default switch and configure its IP address access at first seemed to work but I had to know that the switch breaks out as a SG300 28 p switch on the administration Web site. In addition, random logoff occurs that send back me to the login page. Each from time to time, the model is correctly displayed after the login, but when I try to manage it I a connected again.

It still works with an older version of the firmware (1.2.xx I think) but that shouldn't cause such behavior, it should? In any case, I can't update the firmware says the switch as a different model.

Any suggestions what to do (apart from the RMA)?

    Respect,

    Hendryk

    Hello

I'm sorry that you are having problems with the device and I'll try to give you the best possible advice in the circumstances.

The first thing that comes to mind is that you connect to another device, the thought is the SG500. I did the experiment several times before, so I have a few suggestions to ensure we are connection to the device:

1 - Download the Cisco FINDIT and scan tool you rnetwork, maybe you will find that you have two devices, the SG300 and the SG500. Here is the link:

    https://software.Cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=282833583&flowid=...

2 - go to the switch that you believe to be the SG500, then go to Administration, and then discovered - CDP, and then click CDP neighbor information. Most likely, you will see that you have several switches, including the SG500.

    3. If you have followed suggestions and you still believe, you go to the right switch then call at the 866-606-1866 (of the United States) and we will be happy to help you control the device and replace it if this is the case.

I really think that the first 2 suggestions will help you realize that you have two switches on your network.

Please let us know what you find.

I tried changed the build-in macro settings,

    auto macro of the built-in parameters ip_phone $native_vlan 348
    auto macro of the built-in parameters ip_phone_desktop $native_vlan 348

but the system could not change the value of $voice_vlan.

    How to fix?

    Hi Skywings,

So I think the above output is after the change, right? If this is true, it seems that something was wrong during the configuration process. Process of VLAN automatic voice has two main phases where one is related to communication between the switches and other Cisco infrastructure devices and synchronization of voice VLAN ID. The second phase is related to the identification of the end device as phone. What I see in your case that the first phase has failed somehow the voice VLAN ID is different from locally configured. Can you share with me your race and also start-up config more CDP neighbors? You can use private message.

    Kind regards

  • Engine for the mobility Service configuration

    Hi all

I try to incorporate a MSE 3350 to an existing Toilet, and I run through questions that I can't understand.  Basically, I went through the initial installation of the MSE and assigned an IP address in the same network the WLCs I installed... it is also connected to the same switch that the WLCs are as well... I don't know how the port must be configured, but I tried to define an access port as a trunk port and I am not yet able to ping or see if I'm doing a cdp neighbor cmd on the switch.

I looked at the configuration several times and it says that the service is running and intellectual property, SM and GW are all correct so I don't know what else I can check this get up and work.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated... I tried to look at all the config and design guides, but they tell you mostly what to do once you get the MSE integrated with the WCS.

    Thanks in advance!

    Martin

The Switch port must be an access port.  Are sure you you have your cables connected to the port correct eth on the MSE?  In my view, there are two, but only one is used.

    Hello

You will find what is connected 2960 on gig1/0/51 on the switch. It could be the loop of packets in the network.

Provide output 'show cdp neighbors' 2960 switch.

Also is you can update a topology diagram to know what devices are connected to 2960 on gig1/0/51, gig1/0/16, gig1/0/34, gig1/0/27, gig1/0/25 etc...

  • Problems to use LAG with 2504 and 3560

Hello, we recently bought a 2504 wireless controller, and I can't using the aggregation of links (LAG) to connect the WLC to the network.   I was able to connect properly to the contoller using a single link, but as soon as I activate LAG (on the switch and wlc) I'm unable to access the controller.  I think that I have the correct position of the switches as the port channel is active and shows active on the controller via cdp.

I can't do a ping of the controller, but I see it via cdp.

The controller runs 7.4.100.0 with bootloader 1.0.18

The switch is a WS-C3560G-48PS and running 12.2 (25r) SE

    The controller is 10.10.10.202.

No access-lists on interface vlan switch

Note that I have currently the 2nd stop of the port as the first member of the Association is active.

Thoughts?   Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Call Manager 6.1 network problems

I have a problem with my network drops continually calls phones or freezing.  Its States CM low features disabled.  We lose calls, phones are freezing intermittently.

Here is the hardware configuration: MCS-7828-H3

    Platform Type 7828 3 H

    Series MX282400CM

    OS active 6.1.5.10000 - 10

RTMT shows opt-out phones, but I don't see all devices lose connectivity with the exception of some packet losses minimal for call manager.  No other error not reported in to any device Cisco syslog for example, ping sent to all major network devices have 0 packets lost over the weekend, but 250 on 20 000 ping on the call Manager server is lost.  I replaced the cables, cords and moved from the ports of the switch with no resolution.

CPU has never been higher than 24%

Virtual memory never higher than 30%

Active and Inactive partitions are 15% of disk space.

We have a 2nd NETWORK adapter on the server, but I can't configure this 2nd NIC as a stand-alone connection for the call Manager server, than as a failover for 1 NIC.  Does anyone know how to configure this 2nd NIC to host all these servers IP services?  Is there a way to replace the NETWORK card on those servers (not on site and have yet to open this box upwards) or do I have to replace the entire server?

Does anyone have any other suggestions on where to take my troubleshooting?

    Thanks for all the tips!

    Steve

Please see below, your right in thinking this could be a faulty network card, cable, I suggest you also to search in your STP configuration.

Error Message RTD-1-ADDR_FLAP [tanks] [dec] base10 relearning / min

Explanation normally, MAC addresses are learned once on a port. Sometimes, when a switched network RECONFIGURES, due either manual or STP reconfiguration, addresses learned on a port are relearned on a different port.  However, if there is a port anywhere in the switched domain that is loop over itself, addresses will jump backwards between the real port and the port that is in the path to the rear port loop. In this message, [tanks] is the interface, and [dec] is the number of addresses being learned.

Recommended action determine the actual path (port) to the MAC address. Use the ethernet controller of debugging command EXEC addr the privilege of seeing the other path-port on which the address is redisplays. Go to the switch that is connected to this port. Note that the show cdp neighbors command is useful to determine the following switch. Repeat this procedure until the port is found who receives what it transmits and remove this network port.

Link to Error Message-RTD-1-LINK_FLAP [tanks] down/up [dec] times / min

Explanation this message means that too many events from the bottom up link was noticed on this interface: [tanks] is the interface, and [dec] is the number of times that the link goes up and down. This could be the result of reconfiguring the port, or it might mean a faulty device at the other end of the connection.

Recommended action if a person is to reconfigure the interface or device across the interface, ignore this message. However, if no one manipulates the interface or device at the other end of the interface, it is likely that the Ethernet transceiver at one end of the link is faulty and must be replaced.

  • How to find an IP address of polling of a L2 switch?

Here's a good one. I need to find the IP address of the election a L2 (3560V2) switch in my network. I will describe in my network in question.

There are several leading edge devices connected to a switch L2 (3560v2). Links rising L2 switch to a central office switch (4506).

I have the IP address and MAC with an edge device as well as polling the switch IP address.

Yet once, I just need to find the IP address of polling of the L2 switch.

I tried to run Tracert in the edge device but tracert does not show the jump of L2 switch.

    Any ideas?

    Bob

Again, I simply need to find the polling IP address of the L2 switch.

You mean you want to see the IP address of the 3650 management switch?  What you get when you run the command ' sh cdp neighbor detail "of the 4500?
