How to change the settings for Oracle ASM instance?
Thank you to
ASM instance can start without any file parameter. To create the spfile, use:
SQL > create spfile from memory;
This will update OCR (or grid profile).

I just changed the memory_max_target and the memory_target to 544 M in spfile. I can see the new values in spfile. Here's the new values;

Have a read of the default value and value MEMORY_TARGET & MEMORY_MAX_TARGET Minimum for ASM 11.2.0.4 and after (Doc ID 1982132.1)
on Oracle support and you'll see why your memory_target is 1 GB. I did not use ASM recently and never paid no attention to the memory allocation when I did (because there was no reason to).

Hi all
I exported the ASM instance in one of our test environment. Oracle 11 g aix box
We all know that this asm instance can be brought to nomount and mount. but not in open mode.
now when I check the view v$ instance, he indicate the State of instance asm as "STARTED", but not mounted? Is there a reason behind this?
Likewise, I checked to export a database and brought to
the nomount, State of the instance state was nomount
Mount State, State of the instance has been mounted
Open State, the instance state was opened.
but when I check the v$ asm_diskgroup he showed that the diskgroup is mounted.
cant then we check an asm instance is mounted or not outside the view v$ asm_diskgroup and alerts log file?

How to take database backup ASM/Instance?
Hello
I'm new with ASM. We take ASM/instance of database backup.
can we have the idea to backup ASM?
1. what components should be saved as database/Instance ASM / ASM all files?
Please do the needful.
Thank you
NitinHello Nitin,
First of all, you must understand that the RDBMS & ASM instance is different but yes, both are running on the same computer.
ASM includes essentially two things: ASM instance (1) and the storage of the DSO (2).
(1) ASM instance
------------------------That's just an instance when we do not backup but Yes if you want to keep the ASM instance configuration file then just follow these steps:
[grid@host01 ~] $. oraenv
ORACLE_SID = [+ ASM1]? + ASM1
The basic Oracle for ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/11.2.0/grid is/u01/app/gridSQL > create pfile='/home/grid/init+ASM1.ora' of spfile;
Created file.
(2) ASM STORAGE
--------------------------Storage ASM includes essentially ASM starts, namely new set of disks.
-Whenever we do not create ASM diskgroup diskgroup contains still three things:
(a) disc ASM
(b) models and metadata
(c) the ASM files (essentially datafile or all database files)-We take backup of two things on three things in ASM diskgroup:
(1) ASM files - with RMAN because these are files of database.
(2) ASM diskgroup models & metadata - with the MD_BACKUP of ASMCMD command.Now, MD_BACKUP will create a backup as your specified location file and this file will includes all models and metadata of the diskgroup. Benefits of taking diskgroup metadata are, if we lost the diskgroup, so we do not worry some details configuration command MD_RESTORE use to recreate the diskgroup with the same configuration. But remember that it does not restore the data file or any other file that was there on the diskgroup going to use RMAN to restore the missing files.
See the example:
ASMCMD > lsdg

OCR and voting disks (vd) are in ASM, I can stop the ASM instance?
Hello
I have two RAC nodes in the program of production installation and test setup. OCR and voting disks (vd) are in ASM, I can stop the ASM instance?
-KumarHi Kumar,
No, we can't.
Best practice is that you need to stop the battery Oracle Clusterware on the node on which you must stop the Oracle ASM instance.
Use "crsctl stop cluster node_name - n" or "crsctl stop crs" for this purpose.
It could be that useful...
Thank you

SIR of a node will drop if you shutdown ASM instance in this node?Yes. You will need to first stop the battery Oracle Clusterware on the node on which you must stop the Oracle ASM instance.
Use "crsctl stop cluster node_name - n" or "crsctl stop crs" for this purpose.Since you are using OCR and VOTING DISK on ASM, it is not possible only stop ASM and keep cluster running.

Hello team, does anyone know how the start of ASM controls knows the name of spfile automatically generated within ASM? I got the following error when starting ASM instance:

I understand and resolve the error, everything is OK, but I wonder how it works. How does he know what spfile to seek.

We can configure ASM instance on all RAC nodes at the same time?

Thanks for your reply.Do we not have ASM instance centralized for all nodes?
If so it must be created on the shared device or something else?Normally, data will reside in SHARED STORAGE , and ASM & RBDMS instances will be in stand alone systems...
Diskgorup ASM will be shareable to all instances... not the instance can be shareable
Hope you understood.
Thank you

We have a node RAC on Redhat 5.2 3. It works well but I find that all 3 ASM databases are not open. I guess it's OK for them is not open, but is it a bad idea to ahe that open them. I want to leave it open so that I can ask some views of the static dictionary.
Thank youThe ASM instances cannot be opened because there is no database instance - they are in a State of mounting. And you shouldn't question the views of any system except that are allowed for the ASM instances (such as v$ asmdisk etc.).

Mounted/no mounted ASM instance
What is the internal view of Oracle that will check if the ASM instance is mounted or not?
Thank youAt the OS level.
ps - ef | grep asm
In sqlplus.
Select * from V$ ASM_USER;
Select * from v$ asm_client;
Select name, status from v$ asm_diskgroup;http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/E16338_01/server.112/e10500/asmviews.htm
