  Have not installed anything besids the operating system.    I am able to browse the internet even if the default browser would be planted several times and then finally to allow access...  Try to download updates from Windows using IE and Firefox...  Use of IE, it describes the options for express or custom then less than a minute returns an eror:

  The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below may help you solve the problem. For self-help options: In the event log, I see the 8 and 16 event id...  I connect via a wireless connection... also tried to use a wired connection.  Do not use any proxy Server, no proxy settings are in the browser.  Also checked at the command prompt. Again, this is a new installation of Windows, and no other software has been added yet, so I can't blame a third party software application. Version Internet explore is 8,00.  I was able to download from Firefox, but that's all... any suggestions?

  Preliminary work:

  Download the installation files of SP3, IE8 and Microsoft Security Essentials, which is an effective antivirus/antimalware program. I prefer to keep these (and other useful files) on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links to all the installation of three files:

  1. physically disconnect from the Internet. Also unplug all unnecessary devices!

  2. temporarily disable the automatic updates. To do this:

  Start | Control Panel (switch to Classic view if not already selected). Automatic updates

  Select "Turn off automatic updates" and click OK.

  3. install the SP3. Restart TWICE.

  4. switch to IE8. Restart TWICE. (Note: it is important to let IE at the level before the upgrade to SP3 IE6.) After you are in SP3, then you can switch IE6 to IE8).

  5 install MSE.

  (What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).

  6. make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should already be):

  Start | Control Panel | Security Center

  (Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet. Update Antivirus program.)

  7. visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates. Restart each time you are prompted.

  8. reactivate the automatic updates.

  I tried to delete Grub/Ubuntu and eventually remove Win 7. At least it will not start. And if I use my repair disc, that's not restore my Win 7. I get an error in the hard drive is bad, or the MBR needs to be reset. I did it today. When I insurt my repair disc, need me toSystem back recovery opens. I tired the startup, no change repair.   Let's first try the easy solution.  ClickStart, type compatibility in the research field, and click the enter key. This will bring up the resolution of the problems of compatibility of programs.  Click Next and it make a quick check on your machine.  It will ask you to Select the program that you are having problems with, and then click Next.  Clicktroubleshoot program,then check the box forthe program worked in earlier versions of Windows...  Windows XP (Service Pack 2)-click, then click on Next. Click on the box forstart the program. He will try to open the program as if you were using XP. Once the program is trying to open, click onNext. Now it will ask if it worked for you.  If so, click onYes, save these settings for this program. If you clicked Yes, every time that you open the program now he opens as if it was running under XP.  That if it worked!

  Sometimes this method does not work.  For these cases, there is a new feature called XP Mode, which will install a virtual machine before you run your program in.  This feature is available in the professional versions, full and Enterprise edition. It is not too hard to get set up.   Thanks for posting. Please do the following to reinstall the Windows Installer component.

  1.	When the message Press any key to boot from the CD appears on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.
  2.	When you see the message to install Windows XP nowand then press ENTER is displayed on the Welcome to the Setup screen, press ENTER.
  3.	Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.
  4.	In the Windows XP licensing agreement, press F8 to accept the license agreement.
  5.	Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.
  6.	Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
