Change of motherboard leaves me without Windows

Due to a problem with the sound of my ASUS laptop, I returned it to the store for repair. I got it back today and read about the note, they gave me that they replaced the motherboard. Now, when I start my laptop, it just says: "Automatic repair of preparation", and nothing else happens.

Is this a common reaction to change a motherboard?  I have not made a recovery / repair DVD 8 Windows pre-installed when I bought it, I can solve this without having to buy a new Windows key?

In modern computers, your product key is stored inside the motherboard instead of on a sticker under the computer.  ASUS should have really managed it for you, I would call them honestly - you absolutely shouldn't have to buy a new product key.  But this isn't the hardest part, the difficult part at this stage would be to access your built-in recovery partition and perform a reinstall, which is something new Asus should have dealt with the repair.

Is there a solution for this problem of resettlement and thus destroy all previous program files and configurations?

    Hello

As you mentioned that you have "hard disk 500 GB (previously there were two HD in the old mobo)" which means the HD is also changed

Then I suggest to clean install to solve this problem, please follow the link to clean, install the windows

    Note: data loss caveat:

Converting a hard disk partition or volume from NTFS to FAT32 requires that you reformat the partition, which deletes all the data on this subject. Be sure to back up data that you want to keep before you begin.

    Thanks for your response

I solved this problem in BIOS Advanced\SATA config\SB SATA config.  as follows

SATA port 1-4 = AHCI initially

SATA port 1-4 = new IDE

SATA port 5-6 = IDE these ports used with DVD, a comic book should be like ports 1-4

This because I've done a typical mistake of mine.   I did not save the configuration with the entry of FDI

  • I change my motherboard, I do not change anything else in my computer I have xp professional window, when I power my computer, the computer will not start, it asks me to insert the cd and press ENTER, I don't have the xp cd, help me please.

install a new motherboard in my computer, I need the recovery cd to start the computer, I have Windows xp?

Assuming that you are XP is already installed (you do not specify) and the old IDE hard drive, you may need to enable the IDE in the BIOS of the motherboard.  Sometimes on systems more recent IDE is disabled for SATA.  Other than that, I don't know.  Find a friend who has an XP Pro CD.  How is that you have it installed but do not have the CD?  If it was a computer OEM like HP, Dell, etc, then you should contact the manufacturer for a restore CD, but since you have changed the motherboard, it is possible that they won't support you more, unless it is a replacement of the factory.

  • Change of motherboard, cpu and ram by using the version of upgrade of windows 7

I plan on upgrading my motherboard, cpu and ram. I am using windows 7 Home premium that I have updated from xp using a retail upgrade disc that I bought from a company of national computer supplies. Should I have any problems activating this the wrench that came with the drive. I have read several posts on this but can't seem to find a definitive answer. Help, please!

Well, Windows XP and Windows 7 are versions of upgrade as you claim, that means XP used a qualifying version of Windows that is pre-installed with the system used the upgrade of the command.

This means, Windows XP and Windows 7 are both related to this version of Windows that came with the system. Because the copy of the original Windows supplied with the system would have been an OEM license, which means, Windows 7 and XP have more rights to transfer if you change the motherboard.

You can always try a clean install with upgrade.

How to do a clean install with upgrade disc:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

    Click on drive Options

Select the disc/s click on Delete

    Click new

    Click on apply

    Click OK

Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click the link x days before activation.

Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

    Enter the product key

    Click next

Select the Activation of the phone

Click Next when you enter your key page

    Select your country

Click Next, call the number listed

Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

  • Full windows reinstall required when changing the motherboard?

Hello, I have recently built a new custom PC (my first yay!) and I quickly realized that my motherboard was faulty. I'm sending it back for a replacement but I had already installed windows 7 with important files, I need on the partition primary drive. I'll have to perform a complete reinstallation of windows on my new motherboard before activation of windows, or it will go directly in activation? If I need to do the reinstall then what is the best method to back up all my files?

If you simply replace the motherboard, then you should be able to boot Windows 7 on it without problem.

Windows 7 license now installed an OEM license?

If this is the case, then it is not transferable to a new motherboard, but given the circumstances, you can try reactivate by phone:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
