Change the impact of drive letter

Hello

I'm Win 7 Pro x 64.

I have a need to share an application between colleague who has data on an external hard drive.

Initial challenge was to ensure that the external hard drive appeared as the same drive on machines different configurations.

Experimented with the function "Change drive letter" in the management of the computer in the Administratyive tools for the control panel.

In my case I changed the drive F: (USB port) drive W:.

It seemed to work except that I know have a 'new' drive F: which is presented as system reserved.

A reboot doesn't change anything.

Guess my question is should I this extra drive under the drive letter changing?

As a matter of interest, the new F: is shown as having 70.0 MB free of 99.9 MB - where are only physically affected data?

If this is not the case, how to remove it as I would like my USB to back to F: drive as I have other apps referencing this disc - OK I could change the Botr prefer to put things to how they were.

Thank you in advance.

You should always have a reserved system drive, which is there for purposes of recovery.  There normally do not however have a drive letter.  I would just remove the letter F: (but do not remove the drive) and ignore it.

You will need a compatible CD/DVD player.
Not all readers are supported due to different master/slave/c-salt settings.

  • Change the Local C drive letters

    * Original title: assignment of drive letters

When I installed Windows 7 (home edition) earlier, I tried to assign the letter D for the reader, but the installation process would not allow this and kept failing the letter C. can I change this to D now?

The reason why I need to do this is that I have a program more former that works only under DOS and it will not run on any other drive except C.

I have a 'plug-in' (auxiliary) drive that is already formatted for FAT32 and I want to give this the letter C so that I can run my BACK from that program.

This sounds like a practical solution that can be made without too much trouble?

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

From your problem description, I understand that you want to change the drive letter to D of C, so that you can run a program under the C drive with DOS operating system.

Unfortunately this action is not allowed because the current operating system, to which you have started is located on the Local C drive.

If you want to know the method of assignment or change the drive letter, I suggest you open disk management and assign the drive letter and check.

    a. open computer management by clicking the Start button, click on the Control Panel, clicking system and security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-click computer management. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    (b) in the left pane, click Disk Management.

    c. If the hard drive is recognized in disk management and if there is no drive letter assigned, I suggest you do a right click on the drive and assign a drive letter and check if it helps.

    d. click on the player to change and then click on change drive letter and paths.

    Do one of the following:

    · To assign a drive letter if it has not already received, click Add, click the letter you want to use, and then click OK.

    · To change a drive letter, click on edit, click on assign the following drive letter, click the letter you want to use and then click OK.

    · To remove a drive letter, click on remove and then click Yes to confirm that you want to remove.

  • Path is not for nothing / the screwed up drive letter

So what happened was I put in a new hard drive and then it somehow changed my drive d to f, and now the new Virgin is, well you see this cluster just completely * my whole computer. I can't do the sfc scans, I can't open command promp in admin (I can't open anything in the admin) I can't do system restore, I can't repair windows with the cd, I can't run out of any other drive but c programs (no cd nothing on drive f now)... tried everything in the book to fix it , can not do *... There is no my head about to explode halp pls .all because it indicates the path. Cannot go into computer management just thought I'd throw that here I have no way to change the back drive letter.

    Hi Derick,.

This can happen if the new drive was defined as the primary partition instead of the C drive.

I suggest you to remove the new hard drive and verify that you are able to return to the original state.

If you are able to return to the original state, check the structure of the unit in disk management.

Managing a hard disk is different from managing the files and folders that are stored on. Handle a hard drive, we need to change the hard drive itself, as the formatting or it repartitioning.

Managing hard disks: recommended links: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/managing-hard-disks-recommended-links

However, if you are unable to return to the original state, you must seek assistance locally from a technician.

  • Change the default storage drive

Make me relive an old XP computer I used for video editing for my son who has a separate data reader and want to be able to store all your photos and music and all Word documents on this drive. How to change the default setting to store all data in My Documents, my music, etc. on this disc.

    Jim Crum

First of all, each of the folders that you want to create on the data disk.  Then move all files in My Documents, my music, etc. places desired [Windows can do it himself, but you'll be more reliable].

Right click on each file in turn [My Documents, my music, etc.], select Properties , then select the location tab.  Put in the path to the folder that you did on the data reader.  All calls to My Documents, my music, etc. will now be sent by the system to the folder you defined.  Note that if you have not moved all the files yourself already, Windows will offer to move them for you but I found it did not work correctly every time.

You should also check in WMP then addressing the rip folder and library, followed by folder to those you want like WMP does not change more than well.

For MS Office applications, go to the Options button, then the section record and put in the path to the new folder my documents if you wish.

This error message is not from Dreamweaver, but MySQL. You are using Windows, so the default of MySQL is to store the names of database and table in lowercase and treat them in a case insensitive way. See MySQL: MySQL 5.6 reference manual: 9.2.2 identifier case.

The recommendation for MySQL is to use the tiny all table and database names. This ensures maximum portability between operating systems.

It doesn't seem to be an error in the line of PHP code that paste you here. The problem must be in the name of the database. PhpMyAdmin allows to check if it has been created.

  • Change the drive letter of the system drive on Windows XP SP2

    Hello.

There is a certain task I want to accomplish, but I can't figure out how. Here's the situation:

I have 2 hard drives, each separated into 2 partitions. 1 disk partitions have the letters C: and G: assigned on them.

The drive 2 partitions receive letters D: and J: . I have two installations of Windows XP, one on disk 1 (C: partition) and the other on disk 2 (D: partition).

What I want to do is change the letter of the D: partition ( E: letter, even if it doesn't really) . As you probably know, Windows does not allow me to do that because D: is a system partition / boot. So, I was wondering if there is another way to achieve this, without risking damage to the system.

I would be grateful for any help.

You can correct me if I'm wrong, but I suspect it came because you installed to C on disk 1, and then, without disconnecting the drive 1, installed to D on disc 2.

If you had unplugged disc 1 before installing the second XP on disc 2, the Windows partition on drive 2 would also named drive C. A clean re-installation of Windows on the drive with the drive disconnected 1 2 is the only way to remedy this I know.

When you reconnect the disk 1, it will assign other letters for the partitions on disk 2 and vice versa. Having established the two XPs, I would recommend that you delete the drive letters for the other XP system using disk management.

  • Change the drive letter 'C' to something different for security?

I have Windows 7 pro loaded on my SSD already, but have heard (not sure if it is true) that if I change my 'C' default drive letter to something other than C that will greatly enhance the security of my computer (because many viruses target the C drive).  I don't know if changing location of folders TEMP file to another drive, this is what is meant.  Then... Can / should I change my drive by default 'C' to another letter or just change the location of the TEMP file?

Change your letter material would be zero on malware and could very well break things.  In short no
