Change the time-out for ARP cache on vSphere 5.1?

Hello

Does anyone know how to change the expiration time of the cache ARP on ESXi hosts? We have a few problems with vMotion and it seems that the default ARP cache is set to 20 minutes while it is set to 5 minutes on our Cisco switches.

Any ideas where to look?

The routing table in ESXi with has priority over what you have configured in your trade.

It wasn't a problem in ESX as the Service Console and vmkernel had their own separate routing table to deal with...

And I do not think that ICMP will reveal such a question... Ping'in so may seem very well...

Try to configure your vMotion vmk interface with a different subnet and Im sure its all good...

  • Time-out for ARP cache on Cisco routers

    Hello

I was reading a book on Cisco routers, in which the author said: "the router resets the age ARP meter to zero whenever he sees valid traffic from the corresponding device.» This ensures that the addresses of active devices are never emptied in the cache, regardless of how long they have been known. »

I'm really surprised at this topic because I always thought the age counter ARP was an absolute of the meter and not compared to the last time a package was seen coming from the corresponding IP address. After reading this, I did a few tests that tend to confirm the age counter ARP is absolute and that he cares not if we have movement active in the corresponding period of INQUIRY or not.

: Question 1 can someone confirm this please?

I am unable to find clear statements in the Cisco documentation.

QUESTION 2: when the router sends a new ARP request?

For example, when the time-out of the ARP is 4 hours or 240 minutes (default value of Cisco), the router sends an ARP request reaching 239 minutes (1 minute before the expiration time). This value is a fixed (send us a 1 minute before aging ARP request) or is it a relative value (x % of the value of timeout)?

    Thanks for your help.

I have some additional information that might help. I found an ad of a Cisco engineer, which gives some information about the behavior of ARP in Cisco IOS. He said clearly (and is an example) that if Cisco receives an ARP to a host request it will use this request to refresh the ARP entry and reset the timer so that the entrance without making its own application ARP. Maybe that's the behavior they were trying to talk in the IOS Cookbook.

It also speaks to a unicast ARP request 60 seconds before the expiration of the entry so that the entry can be updated. It does not specifically say, but I think that this interval is fixed.

Here is the link if you want to see the details:

    http://puck.nether.NET/pipermail/Cisco-NSP/2005-February/017400.html

Regarding the error in the book, I worked as an examiner on a few pounds and can tell you that the authors and reviewers are working hard to do the right thing. But sometimes mistakes are not captured and appear in the publication. With the amount of detail covered in the book some mistakes are bound to crawl through.

  • Change the time-out for the vote of the files

Hey, is there a way to change the default time-out for files with right to vote. The idea: I have a grid storage (soft). Then I configured the external redundancy for my roc diskgroup where is my votingfile.

When one of the stored mirror gets turned off, the system hungs for almost 2 minutes. The deadline to vote is set to 99 seconds, right? This should be the default setting, at least, according to the journal of crs alerts.

Is it possible to change this value?

At present, the database gets shutdown, after which expires the time-out.

    Christian

    Hello
This note will help you with the IO time-out, but I think that's not your problem.

    See:
Component sync (CSS) of the Oracle Clusterware services maintains two mechanisms of heartbeat heart 1.) the heart rate of the disk on the device with the right to vote and 2.) the heartbeat of the interconnection network which establish and confirm the valid membership of node in the cluster. Both of these mechanisms of heart beat have a timeout associated value. The heartbeat of disc has an interval of time-out of e/s internal (DTO disk time-out), in seconds, to complete an i/o to the drive to vote. The parameter misscount (MC), as noted above, is the maximum time, in seconds, that can not miss a heartbeat of network. The e/s disk heartbeat time-out interval is directly related to the setting of parameter misscount.

Change the default value of misscount not only affects the delay interval to wait for IO to the drive to vote, but also affect the tolerance of pulses missed through the interconnection network.

MissCount should NOT be changed to work around the problems mentioned below.
HBA QLogic cards with a link down Timeout greater than the default misscount.
Cables wrong with Matrix Storage/SAN this purpose IO latencies
SAN switch (such as Brocade) failover latency greater than the default misscount
EMC Clariion array at the intrusion of the AOC for superior to default misscount MS backup
EMC PowerPath path and to repost IO error detection and redirect than default misscount
Bad network configuration SAN that creates latencies in the path of the I/O.

Then I configured the external redundancy for my roc diskgroup where is my votingfile. When one of the stored mirror gets turned off, the system hungs for almost 2 minutes.

As you use external redundancy Oracle knows not that there is a disk mirrored by behind.
Perhaps the OS or storage keep I/O when you stop mirroring due to a bad configuration. I think that this problem is related to the OS or storage not the Oracle Clusterware.
If you perform this test with the diskgroup (external redundancy) storing data will have the same result.

  • How to change the time-out setting

    Hi all

IM new to oracle10g. We use Server 10g 2 version. We have a report that runs for more than 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the time-out error message is displayed. How to avoid this problem. I gave the value of forms_timeout 1400 in default.env. Even after that, im getting the same message. Is there something else to do to avoid this error in time-out?

Below the message after 5 minutes.

Explanation: the request expired before the page could be found. *

    Try this:*.

Refresh page: search for the page again by clicking the Refresh button. This may have been a mistake for a moment. *

If you are still not able to view the requested page, try contacting your administrator or your Helpdesk. *

    Technical (for support staff) information*.

    Error code 1460: Timeout*.

Background: the gateway could not receive a timely response on the site you are trying to access, a DNS server, or another gateway server. This might indicate that the network is congested, or that the site is experiencing technical difficulties. *

    Thanks in advance

I don't think that this forms_timeout applies here, as it should be an HTTP request and forms_timeout has nothing to do with it.
Check the file httpd.conf of your apache located in $ORACLE_HOME/apache/apache/conf for the TimeOut directive. The default value is 300 seconds which would be your 5 minutes, then perhaps assigning a higher value should do the job.

But a report that lasts more than 5 minutes? Isn't it a little longer? If I was a user who runs this report would probably cancel the execution, as if I have to wait longer than 5 minutes for my desired output I'm sure I want to cancel it, as I suspect that it is more. I am looking for the cause of this; Maybe you have a plan of bad execution of your report, or maybe you need to redraw your sql to run faster...

It is very easy to do before the capture preferences, default, slide Defaults, duration of slide.

But it's too late. No panic please don't try this way:

    1. Select all of the slides in the film (CTRL-A after selecting a slide)
    2. Change the length of time in general, just below the quality parameters.

  • Change the time zone in CS-MARS 5.3.2

When I try to change the time zone (with: "set time zone") on the CLI of MARCH, I was evicted and the session is closed... Who knows what to do?

    Best regards, Robbert

I just had exactly the same thing happen on a 100th test running 4.3.2. The message was something about "session timeout" (you can not see unless you connect to the session in Putty). I don't know exactly how I corrected. I configured NTP and tried later... still logged on. I then changed the time-out settings in admin-> system settings and tried later in... still logged on. I change the settings for timeout back and all of a sudden I wasn't be disconnected. Not exactly what fixed it, but probably one of those things.

If you mean the customer of email Windows Live Mail, the time stamp on messages is governed by your time zonesystem. Right-click on the clock in the lower right of the screen and select CONFIGURATION... Change your time zone, and then set your clock at the present time.

If you are talking about the Windows Live Hotmail service, the time zone (s) used are those contained in your account data. Reach

  • Reset the time-out without clicks or the keyboard input

    Hey all,.
SO, I have a RFID reader that triggers events in a film's Director. My timeout is set to 2 minutes, but it is possible for the user to never touch the keyboard or touch screen and always in interaction with the program through the RFID interface. How can I reset the timer of the time-out for the program don't timeout in the middle of the activity of the user. I can't find anything in the documentation that says, although it seems that there should be a property that I could put everything back to 0. Like countDownTime or something like that. Any ideas?

If you use the ' timeout' Manager (and setting of the)
timeoutLength), try to reset 'timeoutLapsed' to zero when you need to.

  • My Windows Photo Gallery has incorrect time for good that my computer is correct. I know how to change the time, but wanted the exact time is displayed automatically when you scan photos etc as before.

Time is incorrect in Windows Photo Gallery and I would like to do this automatically scanned early for photos instead of my change time.

    Hi Sardai,

Unfortunately, this information is not always accurate. If you took some of your pictures in a different time zone, for example, the time recorded for these pictures could be incorrect by several hours. The camera can also be set to the wrong date and time. Or, if you're scanning photos, ta date will reflect the date that they have been digitized, not the date on which they were taken. All these anomalies can be adjusted manually.

To change the date or time

    1. open Windows Photo Gallery by clicking on the Start button, all programs, and then clicking Windows Photo Gallery.

    2. If you do not see the details on the side of the window pane, click information on the toolbar to display it.

    3. click on the image you want to change.

    1. to select more than one picture, hold down the CTRL and click each picture you want to change.

    4. click on the date at the top of the details pane.

    5. click on the arrow next to the date and then click the correct date on the calendar.

    6. click on the time at the top of the details pane.

    7. Select the correct time.

To adjust the time for pictures taken in a different time zone

    1. open Windows Photo Gallery by clicking on the Start button, all programs, and then clicking Windows Photo Gallery.

    2. right click on the image you want to change and then click on change time taken.

To select more than one picture, hold down the CTRL and click each picture you want to change, and then click a picture when you are done.

    3. in the change to box, type the number of hours to change, or click the up or down arrow to select the number of hours. To make the new start time, type a minus sign (-) before the number.
