If you are using XP Home Edition, the built-in Administrator account probably doesn't have a defined password. You can start in safe mode, where this account will be selectable when connecting. It allows to connect and change the password of your normal connection.

To start in safe mode, keep hitting F8 twice a second after turning on the PC until you get the start menu where safe mode is selectable by the up/down arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

If you are using XP Professional, try to connect using the built-in Administrator account. You don't need to do it in safe mode (although you can if you wish). If your normal login screen is a display of the user symbol and hit ctrl-alt-del twice to get to login to text entry. Type administrator as the user name and try a blank password.

  • Cannot change windows password

For the last 3 years or so, I couldn't change my windows login password.  Whenever I try (every 6 months or more), I always get the following message is displayed.

"There is a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to receive this message, try again later. »

I contacted MS about this and they gave my usual suspects, for example, windows update, updated drivers, check for viruses/malware.  None of this has helped.  My knowledge of windows is very good.  I am using windows 7 Home premium, 64-bit, with an I5 processor in a motherboard H77.  My OS is completely up to date that are my drivers and my PC scans are clean.  I'm having no other problems.

I asked to reset - MS either manually change my password or to force me for some reason any, they refused to do.  Again, I can connect to my MS account and use all the services, change my profile, do everything except change my password.

    Gregg,

Please confirm if you talk a user account on your Windows 7 computer or an account of MS [Online] as your question seems to refer to both.

If the problem is with a user account on your computer, then MS can't do anything that this account exists on your computer.  If this is the problem then I would understand exactly what is the procedure that you follow that generates this error message.  In the end, you could create a new power to Admin-level user account and use this account to reset the password for your existing account, but there are issues to consider before making [corruption of user profiles possible, side effects of using another account reset].

If the problem is with an Account of MS, then you would be able to go to When you can not connect to your account Microsoft , then reset your password

  • Mail and sharing of WIndows 8 has stopped working when I changed my Yahoo password. Can't remove and replace the account information from Yahoo either. Any suggestions?

I was doing very well with Windows 8 and really liked the tile part until the part of so many mail no longer works when I changed my Yahoo password (after having hacked).  Given that the Yahoo account has been used to set up my Microsoft Account for the new computer laptop / Windows 8, this old password appears to be caught in the trap in the system.  I can still use the browser to get to Yahoo use e-mail like this, but it is frustrating that the Mail tile is now useless and hand tile is too.

    Hello Rob,

The Microsoft Account and Yahoo accounts are two separate accounts.  Then the two accounts use the same login ID (your Yahoo email address) and can be configured with the same password; When you change the password for one of the accounts that will not change your password for the account on the other.

If the two accounts used the same password, I suggest to change the password for your Microsoft account and using a separate password for each.

Once the Microsoft Account password has been changed, you should be able to connect to the mail. You may still need to update your email Yahoo mail password of: charms-> settings-> accounts-> .

The following tutorial can help you get out of the jam.

Regain access to your admin account using system restore

    Excerpt:
    Important note...
This works in cases where you changed your password to something new and then has forgotten or deleted a user account by accident. So that this works, there must be a restore point from the system during which logging has managed for the account of the problem. In addition, this isn't a problem if you are in a domain environment because the domain administrator can always reset your password.

I was wondering, is it possible to change the background of vista to windows on screen password security?  If so, how would I go all this?
    Thanks robin

    Hi Robin75,

Thanks for choosing Windows Vista community.

Yes, it is possible to change Windows Vista Logon Background. I'm afraid, there is no tool designed by Microsoft for that matter.

However, there are many third-party tools that will help you change Windows Vista Logon Background on your system.

You can go to http://www.bing.com/ and background research to logon to Windows Vista.
