changing disk ex hard time machine with time capsule

Hello

I apologize for a such a basic question, but I would just check.

Ive recently bought a Capsule 3 TB to replace external HARD drive that I used for Time Machine on my rmbp.

What is the process of "disengage" the existing Time Machine drive?

I am not embarrassed to transfer my old back ups to my new time capsule, unless it is a good idea, but I would like to be able to access it on the existing drive should I need to.

I mean do 1). I turn off time machine under preferences, (2). Remove the disc previous time machine, then editing (3) Time Capsule or I missed something?

I can't find much information about it

Thank you!

When you install the new TC for TM a dialog box will appear asking if you want to use the old and the new objectives. Just say no, and the old target is not used then deleted the plist.

It is very difficult and often fruitless old copy backup TM for the TC, so I think your plan is the right one... Start a new backup on the TC.

We recommend you make by ethernet because this backup TM base is essential to recovery then. Wireless is slow and much less reliable.

The older TM backups are always accessible by clicking on the TM icon in the dock, then select

Browse other discs of TM.

Changed to Earthlink DSL to AT & T u-verse fiber and time capsule airport is no longer back up; AT & T set new router; I want to use only the Time Machine backup. What I have to do a hard reset of time capsule? Is there an easier way to reconnect with my iMac? I have now connected time capsule directly in my iMac, but still no recognition. Thank you.

Whenever you change the modem or modem/router, or change service provider, the time Capsule airport must be reset to the default settings and then set it up again to work on the "new" network

A hard reset on the Time Capsule will achieve this goal. Then, make sure that the Ethernet cable connects from one of the four <>- on the Uverse router/modem LAN ports to the "O" on the Time Capsule WAN port.

Set up the time Capsule still... you can use the same name and password if you want, or set up a new name and password if you wish.

  • Can I access HARD Time Capsule disk using my devices iOS or PC?

I'll buy an AirPort Extreme or airport Time Capsule. So I currently don't have a Mac, can I access the HDD of my iOS devices TC or PC as Network Attached Storage?

Yes, if you download and install an application like FileBrowser on iPhone and iPad. More details here: Stratospherix - FileBrowser - overview

Yes, if you open Internet Explorer on the PC and type the IP address of the time Capsule or AirPort Extreme network and press ENTER.   Example... \\192.168.1.10

If you decide on AirPort Extreme, don't forget to format the USB hard disk in Mac OS Extended journaled.

  • How can I change the name of the ion HD my Time Capsule airport

My time capsule airport has changed its name to data and now I can't use it. What can I do?

Not sure why you can't use 'Data' as the name of the disk hard Time Capsule, since it is the default value.

But, if you want to change the name of 'Data' to something else...

Open the AirPort on your Mac utility... (Finder > Applications > utilities > AirPort Utility)

Click on the image of the time Capsule

Click on edit in the window that appears

Click the disks at the top of the next window

Next to Partitions, you will see "Data".

Click directly on the name of 'Data' and the box will change to allow you to edit the name, just as you can change the name of any other player

In the example below, I changed the name of the drive 'safeguards '.

Click Update at the bottom right of the window to save the changes you have made

  • Time capsule as external hard drive

Can I simply move my films and documents through the viewfinder to use it as a drive external hard time capsule from apple?

An 'external' drive is one in which the Player connects directly to a Mac... like a USB or a FireWire drive.

The Capsule is a reader of 'network', which means that it connects to the network router, the Mac then connects the network to the time Capsule.

The difference. Please keep in mind that the time Capsule is designed to store backups of your Mac using the application Time Machine on your Mac.

While other data may be stored on the Time Capsule, it is not a good idea to do so.  One reason for this is that users sometimes want to move the data from their Mac at the time Capsule to create more space on the hard drive to the Mac. Once that data has been moved over the time Capsule, users then often delete data on their Macs.

Big mistake. When--not if... Time Capsule has a problem, the only copy movies or documents that the user flies over from their Mac is on the time Capsule... and now that the data are not available and will be probably lost.

A much better solution would be to connect a USB drive or FireWire directly to the Mac and then have Time Machine back up the Mac and the USB to the time Capsule.  In this way, you have 'original' data on a drive and "backups" on another drive... the minimum it takes to a backup plan.

  • Restore backup after the reset Time Capsule (1st generation) using Windows PC

I apologize if this question is somewhere already. I tried to find an answer and I've seen similar discussions but not exactly what I need.

A bit of history... The location is a small school with about 10 cameras, its network systems, point of sale, cloud networked storage, etc. Was asked by the owner to create or activate a Guest WiFi SSID. They said he worked at the same time, but some work was done by a previous technician and they lost the WiFi of comments.

So I used the Airport utility to access the time Capsule. However, after the change to the next level (enable the public IP sharing? maybe?), he ended up destroying the entire network, as in nothing was back upward when the utility scanned for devices. Even the Time Capsule was not recognized by the utility. I ended up doing a hard reset on the Time Capsule and do my best to manually configure the device again, even though I was not initially designed the network. I have also discovered that 1st generation Time Capsules have no comments WiFi capabilities.

To make a long story short (too late... "I know sorry..) .. I got most of the features, functions, etc. on the network back where they were before, with the exception of camera systems and a network storage device active cloud to the owner's House.  What I would like to know is... Since then, I understand that a hard reset does NOT erase the backup or other data on the shared disk in the time Capsule... is there an easy way to restore the settings of all of the time Capsule before the problem occurred?  I would need to do this using a Windows computer.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. What I'm trying to avoid the most is having to reset all the cameras, which are upstairs, hard to reach areas. I guess that people who were previously assigned on the cameras must still be there. If only I could get the Capsule of time exactly where it was before he went down, which would allow me to save a lot of time and frustration.

You can also (2nd choice)... If there is a simple way to detect the active network cameras and other devices on the Time Capsule and pull the IP out of them, that would be helpful as well.

    Thanks in advance for answers!

    You have my sympathy all...

Been to this place before today... and I always get myself into it by pure stubbornness... I should just walk on some of these jobs and tell them too hard...!

What you had to do was to export the configuration before you start playing. Without export of the configuration there is not much hope of healing to less than the previous tech saved a configuration to the unit... This example gets much delicate.

The TC is actually able to contain several configurations... There is a good chance, however, that wipe you the.

Anyway... coming to the serious Tin. (same version on Mac and PC utility should work the same).

Here's my TC who foolishly a reset.

When I do something... first manual configuration, I wonder is to revert to the previous version.

You have done or could you saved the previous settings as a profile... I hope that you did... in the hope...!

IF so, you have a saved profile.

In the area of the top menu go in manage profiles.

Now, if you are lucky or did the job just last time... by accident... you'll have a saved profile... Just click back.

If nothing is there, or it's current settings... Sorry, but you didn't know something was there... and you cannot was expected to know the trouble you would get yourself in.

If you have changed a setting in the TC of the bridge in router mode...

(enable the public IP sharing? maybe?)

Getting back to what it was... mode bridge being the most common.

At the bridge of the TC does control most things... and you need to return to the main router.

If the TC kicking upward a stench to return to the bridge, reset it simply still once and then bridge will work... It would be useful to loads to remember what was the setting... just to see the bridge takes the TC of the equation to know where the cameras are.

If the cameras are on static IP, they will respond to a ping scanner... If the primary router is configured for a standard range of IP addresses... 192.168.1.xxx some.

Then the TC in bridge must have also taken an ip address in this range and the cameras (Ethernet or wireless)?

I hope that ethernet, but if they were using the TC as a wireless access point, unless you know exactly the SSID wireless as it was in the past then you do not have this info...

Look at any computer, they have in the building that was running wireless and watch all the SSID that they use... one of these is likely the TC and you can restore this name.

Or drop a camera... and ethernet allows to connect to him... and find the ssid, that it's been fixed... redefine the TC on this name (SSID) wireless security... all cameras must be able to connect to it... and you can then restore the entire system by connecting to the IP address that will be displayed in the list on the main router.

Good luck.. as says Han Solo... you'll need!

  • How does the Time Capsule?

I'm looking into buying time Capsule Airpot but I have a few questions and hoping someone can help! I'm basically looking for a way to back up my MacBook Pro and replace my crappy router in the thought process was a good deal... However what I was asking, that's exactly how the backup works? It's like an external hard drive where my information will sit until the end of time? Or will they finally deleted? Like say I backup all my pictures and then remove them from my MacBook... They are never saved on the time Capsule airport or eventually be deleted?

I suggest a visit to Time Machine FAQ of Pondini for more information about Time Machine. Time Machine performs a type of backup archives where the old files can be deleted and replaced by new ones. Time Machine backup on a disk in the time Capsule.

TM only deletes older files if they have been removed from the source and when TM needs space on the backup to a new incremental backup drive. Time Machine "Jules Destrooper" its backups. over 24 hours, old backups, except the first of the day; These "dailies", old more 30-day backups, except the first day of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there is room.

So, how long a backup rest file depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming that you do at least one backup per day. If she was there for less than 24 hours, it will be maintained for at least a month. If she was there at least a week, it will be maintained as long as there is room.

Note that, on a Time Capsule, the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but not descended. View of the user of the TC so it seems that no space was released, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.

Once TM has found that it cannot free enough space for new backup it reports the disk is full. You can erase the backup disk and start your backup or replace the disc with a larger drive.

  • Amber light flashing on time capsule

I just installed and activated a new Xfinity gateway modem.  It is hooked to my Time Capsule airport.  Time successfully Capsule gives me Internet connection, with the cord, Ethernet and Wireless.  It also allows Time Machine on my MBP running towards a job.

However, my Time Capsule continues to Flash his clear amber, instead of going to the green. He had the green light before the transition to a new modem.

I tried the power of disconnection and reconnection both the modem and the time Capsule.  My Airport utility confirms it's something wrong, but I know not what, especially given the fact that it seems to work very well.

Need some new avenues to explore.

    Thank you

    David

AirPort utility will tell you exactly what he thinks is wrong and suggest a 'solution '.

Here, I assume that you use a recent operating system like El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Cougar or Lion on your Mac.

    Open AirPort Utility

Click on the image of the time Capsule

In the window that appears, look for the status setting

Click on the little orange dot there for more information and a suggested fix.

You can have a "Double NAT" error message there. The solution is to change to a setting time Capsule of 'Off (Mode bridged)' to work with your new 'modem'... which is actually a modem and a router in one package... also called gateway.

Click on the network at the top of the screen

Change the setting for the router Mode to read 'Off (Mode bridged) '.

Click Update at the bottom right of the window to save the changes and allow a minute for the time Capsule again a beautiful bright green light.

If you're still using OS X (10.6.8), post back to similar but different instructions.

  • Time Capsule or airport repeatedly loss of internet connection

    Greetings,

Last month, I had a problem with my Apple Time Capsule and my cable company router intermittently lose Internet several times a day between.  This has happened several times a day.  My Time Capsule, Airport utility would show a 'green' status, but the status of 'Internet' is yellow.  It would resolve itself after several minutes, or if I rebooted the time Capsule.

I did some troubleshooting and here's what I've been able to determine:

    • My internet business is the spectre of the Charter, and I use a Modem Arris.  The lights on the modem showed upstream internet connection was good, and technical support of the Charter stated that it was not a problem between the servers and the modem.  So, this seems to be a problem with the connection between the modem and the time Capsule.
    • Digging in the settings of the time Capsule, I noted that at one point defaults under the utility Airport-> Internet-> Internet Options-> "Configure IPv6" on the Time Capsule has changed its 'Link-Local only' to 'automatically '.  I am not sure when this change happened, but maybe with Time Capsule 7.7.3, firmware which I installed it right around the time the problems started.
    • I changed the IPv6 of Time Capsule settings go back to the "link-Local only" and since then have not lost to the Internet once

So it seems to be an incompatibility between the IPv6 to my ISP configuration and configure IPv6 'automatically' on the Apple Time Capsule.  At this point the IPv4 and IPv6 protocols are still supported in the internet, but once IPv4 disappears at some point in the future I'll have to change the settings.  I hope that by then an update of the firmware from Apple or the modem from my ISP will fix this incompatibility.

Hope this is useful to someone else!

There is a document with settings for routers airport Apple on IPv6 with Comcast... I know that it works with TWC and it will probably also work with the Charter.

    http://mydeviceinfo.Xfinity.com/download.php?file_id=35

There will be problems with dentition with IPv6 for awhile... Cox is the principal who is problematic at the moment and there are a number of positions that have also recommended parameters.

IPv6 can also work if you use IPv4 dns servers of google... So the same instructions as the above document, but just simply replace the ISP DNS with values of google.

Your Arris modem can also be a problem... We have noted problems with the model AC AE and TC WAN port with a number of modems... It's completely outside the issue of IPv6.

  • Does not recognize time capsule

I installed Time Capsule from Apple on my laptop 3 Windows xp. However, I can't get one laptop to recognize the time capsule hard drive after I changed passwords on the time Capsule.  I tried to reinstall several times on this laptop, but nothing helped. I get a message on the cell phone that a drive duplicate exists. How can I remove what is conficting so that it will again recognize the drive? Help, please.

I have an IMac with time machine and time capsule. If I buy a large external hard drive can back up all my Lightroom Info but also everything else to go to time machine, & that it saves on hard drive new, after he made a backup to time capsule?  This way, I would have two backups.

    Hi marinersr,

I'm not sure the backup machine capsule/time, but according to me, that it backs up all data on your hard drive.

Yes, you can back up the Lightroom catalog on the hard disk external.

You can set the time of the backup under the catalog settings > backup > he would invite to the backup, when you exit Lightroom > click on select next to the location and specify the location as your new hard drive.

If you want images of both original backup, you can configure to create a second copy of the images on your external drive during import.

    Kind regards

  • To transfer the old backups Time Machine from a hard disk external to the airport in Time Capsule

Is it possible to transfer the old Time Machine backups from my external hard drive to Time Capsule airport?

Having done this in the past, I can say that it is possilble... but is not anywhere near the amount of time and effort it will take to do this.

Even when I was successful, Time Machine has started a new backup of the Mac... it has not added on the old existing backups, so I lost a good part of the backup on the Time Capsule space.

This will be easier if you keep just on the hard drive for a few months... in case you need to go back and pick up a file... While the time Capsule built a new story backups tons.  After 3 to 6 months, you will not need the old backups, and you can erase the disc and use it as a spare part.

If you want to try it anyway... see this article: http://pondini.org/TM/18.html
